I texted him that evening and he said something came up and he would make it the next morning. Then he no showed again. Sent another text and got another excuse. He never reached out to me when he couldn't make it. I had to reach out to him. After three no-shows in a row, I texted Ty and asked for my money back. He said he would be here the next morning for sure. I said okay. Told him though that if he didn't make it, for any reason, that I wanted my money back for sure. He didn't show, and again, didn't text until I texted him. He didn't send my refund though. He eventually said he had returned materials and would refund me when those funds were processed in 1-5 days. I let 5 business days pass, then texted Ty. He blew off my texts. I tried calling from a different number and though he didn't answer, he did text back immediately. I told him to return my money or I'm going to law enforcement. He then claimed he was at a wake and his wife would get the money sent by days end. I gave a report to a sheriff's deputy who instructed me that I can go to the county magistrate and request a warrant be issued for "failure to work after being paid", which is a fraud crime. If Ty has screwed you out of money, you should do this too. Do not hire this insane person.

I hired Greg to renovate a half bath that had a toilet that leaked, damaging the sub floor and…read morehardwoods in the hall. The first red flag was Greg's cartoonish quote for work. Greg is a smooth talker and made it seem like it would all be good. He said payment would be due upon completion although there was no mention of this in the "contract." Turns out "Remove vanity and install custom vanity" means ripping out the large existing vanity, sink, and huge mirror and then popping down the pedestal sink THAT I BOUGHT. Period. Red flag #2: When I asked Greg about the massive drywall damage, he said "Is it in the contract?" The agreement does say he does not cover drywall repair, but this was literally left in a demo state. On Day 2, while the entire floor was ripped up with the crawlspace exposed, Greg asked me for a check. I said I planned to pay him with a credit card and it would take me a few days to move money around to give him the equivalent of cash. Day 3 he walked off the job claiming non-payment. After I calmly explained that I could not be in non-payment because no payment was due, Greg came back the next day like nothing happened... All of the insulations under the half bath was wet so it had to go. Greg did not want anything to do with replacing it. I went out and bought insulation and installed it myself. Either Greg or his plumber, Drew, cracked the first sink basin during install. Luckily Home Depot replaced it with no questions and Drew came back and installed the new one. Drew was actually great. I did all of the leg work for the return, so don't expect Greg to actually stand by his work or take responsibility for mistakes. Greg made it clear he does not do hardwood floor repair and I was fine with that. Turns out, my hardwood flooring guy discovered that there was a strange strip of plywood sub floor installed to fill a gap that was not actually supported. We found out why when he pulled it up. See photos. Don't expect structural repairs to actually connect to other structural members. Don't expect your tile OR subfloor to be level or flat. Don't expect a professional job.

Greg and his other worker were very efficient and even though we ran into a few issues (old plumbing and uneven walls), Greg was able to troubleshoot the issues and did a fantastic job with this renovation. One other handyman had looked at this for me, but their solution didn't hold up, so i was in search of a permanent fix. I have grown fond of using Yelp's "request a quote tool" to easily put out a project request to several businesses that serve my area, and find it very easy to communicate and get quotes in this manner. Unfortunately for the tool, but fortunately for me, I may not need to request a quote again for awhile, because I am just going to hiring Chris and Chase at Carolina Custom Home Improvements to do any work I have moving forward! Chris got back to me within an hour of my quote request, with which I also submitted a pair of photos of the damage. He took a guess at the issue, provided two likely solutions, a price quote based on what we could see in the photos, and was able to come do the work within just a few days. I appreciated the direct manner he answered, and his sense of urgency. On arrival, him and Chase were easy to talk with, and got right to work diagnosing the issue. Due to some cracking on the siding, they would need to replace some of it to permanently fix things. They also noticed some other damaged siding, offering to fix that while they were at it. I agreed, and they set to work calling suppliers. They were able to not only find the same manufacturer, but the correct color! Obviously, the new siding is not faded, so you can tell it's new, but that is totally expected. Once they obtained the materials (with no markup, giving me the receipt directly) they set to work. This siding is 25 feet in the air, and a hard job on a long ladder. They got it done in around 90 minutes. It fits flush and looks great, see my photos. The job site was left clean, and they even tamped down the holes in the soil made by the ladder and their feet on the soft ground. I'm happy to use them again in the future based on this work, and they are knowledgeable on several subjects. They'll at least be my first call.
