For a little backstory: When some DIY electrical work replacing a ceiling light fixture went wrong, I was stuck without power in my kitchen, living room, or bathroom. I started calling electricians, handy-man services, Home Depot, and anyone else I could get on the line. Mike from MNM Handyman Services was the only person who took the time to listen to me over the phone, and immediately offered some safety tips that allowed me to at least restore power in the rest of my apartment without worrying about electrocuting myself. The very same day, he arrived at my door and took care of the problem. Turns out we were dealing with some pretty ancient wiring, so it wasn't the standard Black/White/Ground situation to connect the fixture. Mike quickly figured out exactly what needed to be done, and explained everything he was doing every step of the way (but of course reminded me never to do it myself unless I know what I'm doing... safety first). I was supplying the new legs myself which was metal to replace the original metal legs on the cabinet. They received the pictures of the cabinet and contacted me and they told me the cost would be between $450.00 to $500.00. I asked them why so much money, they told me because it a heavy cabinet. Anyway I hired a carpenter to replace the legs. Fact check--Carpenter was able to lift the cabinet by himself. He said the cabinet only weighed about 15 to 20 lbs. Fact check---Took less than a hour to replace the old legs with new legs my new metal legs are lot more sturdy than the old ones. Fact check---Total costs was only $150.00 Before you hire a handyman on yelp get 3 to 5 quotes from different handyman. Have them look at the project, look at their reviews, if they don't have any reviews don't hire them. One of the original visit jobs was installing a railing on the basement stairwell, and when one of the screws loosened up a few months later, John came back the same day, worked on it for nearly an hour, and did not charge us a penny. YES, no charge at all! Who does that anymore, especially in Boston?!? Fast forward to today, years after we last called John. I asked if he could swing by for a few odd jobs during the next week or two. I described everything via text and included a pic of the house to jog his memory. Just a few hours later as I'm wrapping up work, John sends over pics of everything--FIXED! The invoice, parts included, is 1/3 the cost anyone else would charge. Just three reviews?
