This last weekend our new water softener overflowed into it's drain pan. Found the intake connection was leaking and filled the Reservoir Tank. I tried to replace the gasket, but it still leaked! I searched for a Handyman on YELP and found Positive Reviews for Hallen! I called him and we discussed my situation, sent him a Pic of the problem and made an appointment for this morning at 10am. Hallen arrived early, wearing a mask and was friendly and professional. He explained what he saw and what he had to do for the repair. He said it would be less than an hour, if there were no problems. Within 30 minutes he had changed out the shut off valve and no more leak! Hallen tore a hole in my front door putting in a dead bolt. Kept saying he forgot his "cutting tool". But proceeded to use his slotted end screw driver to outline the place where the lock would go. Looked like a kindergarten did it. Then, had the audacity to tell me that my house was "dying". I was so shocked, I didn't respond at the time. But, I will now. How dare you. He was so confident and I must say I found him arrogant throughout. This was several years ago so perhaps he's learned much since then. I hope so. I never called him back. I will never do so. I was in a total pinch this morning. I needed someone to disassemble a bed frame at really short notice, which was totally my bad. I already had scheduled a handyman for later in the day to help me with something else. I called him to see if there was any way he could come over to help. He answered my call but the call dropped, yet he didn't call me back. I tried again and I just got voice mail. Never heard from him. I frantically looked on Yelp and saw that Hallen had a high rating. I called and he answered! He was totally calm and friendly and said he did have to be somewhere at that moment but that he could come over in an hour and a half to 2 hours. I said "I'll take it"! He arrived on time and had disassembled the frame in a matter of minutes. I was so grateful - and impressed! And we even chatted after he was finished. Such a nice man. Thank you, Hallen! I used Hallen for a massive issue in my in-wall drier vent I have been battling with for weeks where we thought it was disconnected in the wall, which other handymen had issues figuring out. We worked together on finding out the issue, he brought some equipment including some snake camera that we mac-gyver'd to a drier vent cleaning pole to reach 8 feet in the wall at an angle and we found a giant wet plug of lint that has been accumulated over 20 years. Hallen broke through it with ingeniosity and my vent was running again! All of that in 2 hours for a very respective rate. I have had three gardeners not able to trouble shoot the sprinklers system. Hallen discovered it had nothing to do with the timer box but the initial wiring was improper. Above and beyond. Hallen answered his phone when I called, offered to come by the same day, was available via text, and charged a very reasonable rate. Stellar work ethic, too. He even idly tightened up some loose cabinet knobs while taking a work call from my kitchen! My front door wasn't closing properly. He fixed that up perfectly (it opens, closes, and locks like butter, and not even light can get through what used to be gaps on all four sides) while sharing lessons about how to level and otherwise care for my trailer. So much great advice that I was literally taking notes and trying to remember any general questions I had, so I could ask him. A great handyman and teacher, for those who want to learn how to be less reliant on handymen. He's also delightful "company." Young women who live alone and have dealt with a certain type of handyman will appreciate what I mean: the guy doesn't have a creepy bone in his body, and I was completely comfortable having him in my home.
