Great response time but no quote given and I had to give ALL our personal info only to tell me they don't do quotes and they would have to "see" the project. Good lord, it's just a replacement faucet, and "they no longer do plumbing." Got a great quote from another source. Next. Or you tube. read more

I have worked with Tracey of the handyman coop many times now. She has done a lot of work for our house, and recently we've brought her on in our photography business to install wall art for our clients. I couldn't sing her praises any higher, she's kind, professional, on time, detail oriented, and also just fun to be around. Thank you so much Tracey! read more

****This is a second update: I just got off the phone with Jane, the owner of the Handyman Co-op. Jane completely understood the problem and has graciously taken it upon herself to remedy both the negative personnel problem as well as the unacceptable work performed. This is how a business should be run and I'm truly thankful to Jane for helping me with a most uncomfortable and difficult situation. I can honestly say that I would recommend Jane's Handyman Co-op for your home's repairs based on Jane's customer service and understanding of her clients. *This is an update to my first review. Today Mark contacted me and threatened to take me to court stating: " guilty of slander malice public fraud and defamation of character and I am prepared to file charges in the Santa Cruz Court tomorrow unless your review is taken down promptly". I am a single senior and I'm being threatened by someone who knows where I live. Im'm personally afraid and have left a message with Jane for help. Yelp is a forum to give feedback regarding performance. It truly saddened me to leave a negative review but I was not happy with the work and I felt uncomfortable having this person in my home. Santa Cruz is a kind and loving community. This does not live up to those attributes. (This update was posted prior to the second update and before speaking with Jane). read more

I called with my "to do" list of odds and ends around the house. I received a call back and was referred to a local gentleman who arrived at the scheduled time. He was cheerful, friendly and professional. I appreciated that he thought through each task very carefully, measured, read directions, etc. He installed a TV wall mount. Some coats hooks in the entryway, a screen door, and even fixed a drawer track problem that two other repair people were never able to do successfully. He accomplished everything right the first time. He left no unnecessary drill holes in the wall, no mess to clean up when he was done. Just a nice polite guy with experience figuring stuff out and common sense. Exactly what I hoped for. read more

I have been looking for a business to help finish a wall in my bathroom. When I emailed them they did get back to me in a timely manner, but in the end told me that since it's basically already done I should finish it myself. I emailed them back stating that the person who started it couldn't finish it and if I could I would have already done it myself. I got no response back and over all felt like even if it's almost done, you can still finish the last bit of the work for someone who doesn't know how to do it. read more

The absolute best and most reliable service in town! Jane and her crew always step up and make time to help solve all your handyman needs. We've been working with Jane and the coop for about 7 years and have never been disappointed! Thank you! read more

Tim came in and quickly assessed the sticky door then snugged up the hinges, sanded a little bit of the edge and painted.

I have been using Jane for several years now as I have 6 rental condos in Santa Cruz which means I frequently need a handyman. Jane has always been prompt and honest with me. If she has someone available to do the job she will tell you and she will also tell you if the job is beyond what her people can do. Her rates are very reasonable and the work I have done has been great. Diana G read more

When you need something fixed, don't waste your time calling around - just call Jane at the Handyman Co-op! She will get you sorted ASAP and with quick, reliable, and affordable service. Garbage disposal not working? Call Jane. Need your windows caulked? Call Jane. Want to hang a towel rack? Call Jane. I've called Jane more times than I can remember and have always been thrilled with the results. She has an incredible team (shoutout to Tracey!) and will find you the right person for whatever your project entails. So what are you waiting for? Stop reading reviews and just call Jane. read more

I have used Handyman co-op 3 times too many. The first time the work appeared to be done correctly until a few weeks later when a door that was worked on refused to shut. We had to hire, at our own expense, someone to repair the original work. The second guy who came out was highly unreliable. He supposedly 'fixed' the door but I had to call him repeatedly to get him to finalize it. Following that, my mother in-law had some work done which has gone terribly wrong and no calls were returned. Consumer beware. read more

I am thrilled with Handyman Co-op and use them for all my projects. I am a very happy customer and would never do anything by myself when there are experts who can help me. Thank you, Jane and Handyman Co-op. read more

Jane Story, the owner is in her mid 80's and is still sharp as a wit and probably more active than you! She has the upmost level of integrity, easy to talk to and schedule on the phone, and does her best in getting quality tradesman to my home for maintenance or repairs. I've used handyman for years and they have always sent out reliable and competent handymen. My dryer broke recently and they were able to fix it within 24 hours for under $150 with great friendly service. read more

Great experience. We had some stuff that needed to be done and they were friendly, responsive, professional and efficient.

I was very please with their service. Right away, Jane set me up with a wonderful handyman. Sage was prompt, clean and organized. In less than 2 hours time, he completed all of the tasks I asked of him, including putting an entire ikea bed together, which normally takes longer. I would recommend Sage to anyone looking for a professional, reliable and respectful handyman. This company is also reasonably priced for the amount of work they do. Thank you, Sage and Jane! You've made my cross country move and transition a lot easier! read more

I highly recommend Handyman Co-op! Jane got right back to me (it was after 5p,) & picked the right guy for the job. Mark called me the next day & was able to schedule me for 7:30a the next day, which was critical as I needed a door replaced at San Lorenzo Door & you need to get the old door there right when they open so they do an switch out the hardware while you wait. Mark just could not have been nicer & he didn't charge me for some of his wait time (which he could have!) I will use Handyman Co-op & hopefully Mark whenever we need anything done around the house! Also, my best friend, who suggested them to me, also just used this service & was also very happy! read more

0 stars, but its not a choice very sketchy, a lot of run-around type talking. really pushed hard to find out our address, before anything else. very pushy about finding out our address before we were comfortable. also very pushy about finding out our phone number instead of communicated and setting appointments by email, a form of writing. after learning our address, she all of the sudden can't help us, after saying she could and claiming she had the exact experience we were looking for. she made a referral to us for people she does not know nor has any relationship with. she is not getting a referral fee from them, as is implied, at first. when asking follow up questions you find out all this. seems like cherry picking projects and other possible activities, but not really helpful. read more

This place is great for a one stop shop for handyman repairs. Jane was really nice on the phone and I was able to have someone to my place within a day to fix my garbage disposal. All the people working for her have been with her for some time, so it just felt safe as well. I would definitely use this business again! read more

I moved here 4 years ago and went through a lot of handymen. I Finally got lucky and I found handyman co-op. Jane the owner is very knowledgeable. She Has great people working for her. I don't need to look any further. when I call Jane she gives me the person who is the specialist in whatever I need done. I have been using them for about a year and a 1/2 now and made many recommendations to my friends and they are very happy using her. Every job I have had them do has gone very well. Tile on bathroom floor in uneven. There are many dips. Obviously, a leveler was not used. Grout, not caulk, was placed around the edge of shower pan, inside and out. It is cracking, less than a year later. (Tile setter no longer works for the Co-op) and the owner takes no responsibility for the defective work. My cabinets, ordered from Home Depot, were unevenly installed. It has taken two contractors several visits to make them appear somewhat even. My new tile setter did his best when placing backsplash under them. The guys who put up drywall did not set up straight walls. When basebaords were laid by the miller, a new drywaller was called in (not from the Co-op) to plumb the walls. Wes, the electrician is good at his craft. The one star is for him. I wasted thousands of dollars with this business. The owner will not stand by the work done by the people doing it. She'll send the painter to look over the former tile setter's defective work. HOW IS THAT GOING TO HELP? Call the lumber yards, tile shops, etc., and ask for recommendations for workers. Save rework and money. read more

Jane doesn't respond to problems we've encountered with her workers. Some are good and some are terrible.

I've used Handyman Co-op at least 3 times and have been grateful and satisfied every time. I had my yard worked on as well as miscellaneous handyman jobs around my house. The group that worked on my yard was incredibly hard-working and even though the job took longer than they expected, they stayed true to their quoted price and my yard looked fantastic. The handyman was very knowledgable and willing to to fix anything even the things that seemed unfixable- he wouldn't give up! He also professionally hung some large pieces of artwork, taking care to make them straight and sturdy. They are my go-to for yard and handyman jobs! read more

I needed some work done this past weekend. I made a phone call to Handman Co-op and spoke with Jane. After listening to the job description she informed me of the rates and told me a little about the handyman she would be sending. Eric called me a short time later and to my surprise Jane also followed-up with a phone call to ensure that I had received the call. Eric showed up on Saturday to view the project and returned on Sunday to do the job. I was very impressed with the customer service and very satisfied with the work. read more

Jane and her crew have helped me out tremendously with various things such as gardening, landscape design, and general fix it repairs. I love being able to call one number for so many things! Jane is very personable to work and coordinate with over the phone and she is very prompt. She always gets back to you right away. Her staff have all been wonderful..Johnny, Jose, and Rosalio have paid so much attention and detail to my yard and they are such hard workers! Garrett helped to fix a screen door last minute before our house went on the market. And Mr. Koenig (do not remember his first name) helped install solar lights for us. I just love this company and am so thankful to dial one phone number for everything! Thank you to Jane and her crew!! I am forever grateful! read more

I have used Handyman Coop for almost 20 years. I own a rental house in Santa Cruz, and have called them with every sort of problem, big and small over the years and always been satisfied with the work and the price. Jane is the best! read more

Over 30 years ago, when our daughter was a student at UC Santa Cruz, my husband and I bought a fixer-upper near campus. After she graduated, we kept it as a rental, meaning that, as we live 700 miles away, we became absentee landlords. When the house needed repairs, I found a small ad in the Santa Cruz Sentinel for Handyman Co-op. I called. Jane Story answered and sent out a competent repairman. In the 30 years since then, we have relied on Jane for providing repairs from shoring up the house as the frame gave out to some major bathroom remodeling to plumbing repairs. The repairs were always very well done at a completely reasonable cost. If Jane doesn't have someone who can make the repair, she recommends someone else who can. Jane Story has made our being absentee landlords possible. I cannot recommend her highly enough. read more

I called Handyman Co-Op for help with minor home repairs and was so pleased with the skill, versatility and conscientious work ethic of the handyman assigned to my job that I hired him to remodel my house. The owner/founder of Handyman Co-Op, Jane Story, also suppled me with workmen for yard clean-up, an electrician who provided prompt, meticulous service, and a roofing contractor who did a fantastic job at a reasonable price. Handyman Co-Op is a great business model and earns my highest praise. I couldn't be more satisfied. read more

Jane Story, owner of Handyman Co-op has spent years building a trusted reputation in and around Santa Cruz as owner of Handyman Co-op. It really is very hard for contracting customers to evaluate potential contractors, and for many (maybe even hundreds) of customers, Jane takes the stress and worry out of finding good contractors and seeing to it that the customer is satisfied. It was my pleasure to call upon the Co-op for help with jobs related to my electrical contracting business for a number of years, and I commend and recommend Handyman Co-op highly. read more

I want to recommend Handyman Co-op wholeheartedly. They sent a carpenter, Wes, who did great work repairing the decking around my pool.

I have been a customer of the Handyman Coop for over 15 years. Handyman coop completely revamped a home that was in very bad shape. They cleaned, repaired doors with holes in them, painted inside and out, plumbed, and restored the landscaping. They did all this in record time. Handyman returns my calls and e-mails promptly. If I have a problem with any of their work, they immediately investigate the issue and correct it if needed. Handyman coop continues to provide monthly gardening services for me. I highly recommend them. I also completely disagree with the rating posted by Luther B. read more

I had a very lengthy " honey do " list that included sealing up my shed which had rats invading ( thank you Garrett, you did an awesome job!) replacement of a bathroom light fixture, pull out and dispose of a non functioning dishwasher and replacement with a nice cabinet, hanging a new blind, replacing a lame garbage disposal, repairing some countertop issues, putting my smoke detector back up on the ceiling where it was too high for me to reach, changing out a bathroom light fixture..fixing the leaking toilet...the list goes on....John Reynolds was wonderful! So easy to have around..always gave me ideas for better and cheaper options...I felt so comfortable with him in my home, I even left my door open for him while I was away......Jane is always available and calls me right back and knows exactly who can do the work I need done...I LOVE this service! read more

This is one of the best service organizations I have worked with in the area- they are prompt and professional- they do what is needed, when they say they are going to. They don't take advantage of you if you have not idea on the scope of the project. Mark installed a plug and an over the range microwave - planned it out, explained his approach, and completed the project far faster than I thought possible. Jane called right away (even though it was a holiday weekend when I first contact her). Strongly recommend using this Co-op for projects around your house. read more
