Jane completely understood the problem and has graciously taken it upon herself to remedy both the negative personnel problem as well as the unacceptable work performed. This is how a business should be run and I'm truly thankful to Jane for helping me with a most uncomfortable and difficult situation. I can honestly say that I would recommend Jane's Handyman Co-op for your home's repairs based on Jane's customer service and understanding of her clients. *This is an update to my first review. Today Mark contacted me and threatened to take me to court stating: " guilty of slander malice public fraud and defamation of character and I am prepared to file charges in the Santa Cruz Court tomorrow unless your review is taken down promptly". I am a single senior and I'm being threatened by someone who knows where I live. Im'm personally afraid and have left a message with Jane for help. I called with my "to do" list of odds and ends around the house. I received a call back and was referred to a local gentleman who arrived at the scheduled time. He was cheerful, friendly and professional. I appreciated that he thought through each task very carefully, measured, read directions, etc. He installed a TV wall mount. Some coats hooks in the entryway, a screen door, and even fixed a drawer track problem that two other repair people were never able to do successfully. He accomplished everything right the first time. He left no unnecessary drill holes in the wall, no mess to clean up when he was done. I have been looking for a business to help finish a wall in my bathroom. When I emailed them they did get back to me in a timely manner, but in the end told me that since it's basically already done I should finish it myself. I emailed them back stating that the person who started it couldn't finish it and if I could I would have already done it myself. I got no response back and over all felt like even if it's almost done, you can still finish the last bit of the work for someone who doesn't know how to do it. read more

Jane Story, the owner is in her mid 80's and is still sharp as a wit and probably more active than you! She has the upmost level of integrity, easy to talk to and schedule on the phone, and does her best in getting quality tradesman to my home for maintenance or repairs. I've used handyman for years and they have always sent out reliable and competent handymen. My dryer broke recently and they were able to fix it within 24 hours for under $150 with great friendly service. read more

Great experience. We had some stuff that needed to be done and they were friendly, responsive, professional and efficient.

I have used Handyman co-op 3 times too many. The first time the work appeared to be done correctly until a few weeks later when a door that was worked on refused to shut. We had to hire, at our own expense, someone to repair the original work. The second guy who came out was highly unreliable. He supposedly 'fixed' the door but I had to call him repeatedly to get him to finalize it. Following that, my mother in-law had some work done which has gone terribly wrong and no calls were returned. Consumer beware. read more

I was very please with their service. Right away, Jane set me up with a wonderful handyman. Sage was prompt, clean and organized. In less than 2 hours time, he completed all of the tasks I asked of him, including putting an entire ikea bed together, which normally takes longer. 0 stars, but its not a choice very sketchy, a lot of run-around type talking. really pushed hard to find out our address, before anything else. very pushy about finding out our address before we were comfortable. also very pushy about finding out our phone number instead of communicated and setting appointments by email, a form of writing. after learning our address, she all of the sudden can't help us, after saying she could and claiming she had the exact experience we were looking for. she made a referral to us for people she does not know nor has any relationship with. she is not getting a referral fee from them, as is implied, at first. when asking follow up questions you find out all this. seems like cherry picking projects and other possible activities, but not really helpful. read more

I highly recommend Handyman Co-op! Jane got right back to me (it was after 5p,) & picked the right guy for the job. Mark called me the next day & was able to schedule me for 7:30a the next day, which was critical as I needed a door replaced at San Lorenzo Door & you need to get the old door there right when they open so they do an switch out the hardware while you wait. Mark just could not have been nicer & he didn't charge me for some of his wait time (which he could have!) I will use Handyman Co-op & hopefully Mark whenever we need anything done around the house! I moved here 4 years ago and went through a lot of handymen. I Finally got lucky and I found handyman co-op. Jane the owner is very knowledgeable. She Has great people working for her. I don't need to look any further. when I call Jane she gives me the person who is the specialist in whatever I need done. I have been using them for about a year and a 1/2 now and made many recommendations to my friends and they are very happy using her. Every job I have had them do has gone very well. If you're looking for a handyman service this is definitely the place to start. I now have my favorite handy Lady person who does wonderful work for me. And they're also very affordable pricing. Jane doesn't respond to problems we've encountered with her workers. Some are good and some are terrible.

Tile on bathroom floor in uneven. There are many dips. Obviously, a leveler was not used. Grout, not caulk, was placed around the edge of shower pan, inside and out. It is cracking, less than a year later. (Tile setter no longer works for the Co-op) and the owner takes no responsibility for the defective work. My cabinets, ordered from Home Depot, were unevenly installed. It has taken two contractors several visits to make them appear somewhat even. My new tile setter did his best when placing backsplash under them. The guys who put up drywall did not set up straight walls. When basebaords were laid by the miller, a new drywaller was called in (not from the Co-op) to plumb the walls. Wes, the electrician is good at his craft. The one star is for him. I wasted thousands of dollars with this business. The owner will not stand by the work done by the people doing it. She'll send the painter to look over the former tile setter's defective work. HOW IS THAT GOING TO HELP? Call the lumber yards, tile shops, etc., and ask for recommendations for workers. Save rework and money. read more

I've used Handyman Co-op at least 3 times and have been grateful and satisfied every time. I had my yard worked on as well as miscellaneous handyman jobs around my house. The group that worked on my yard was incredibly hard-working and even though the job took longer than they expected, they stayed true to their quoted price and my yard looked fantastic. The handyman was very knowledgable and willing to to fix anything even the things that seemed unfixable- he wouldn't give up! After listening to the job description she informed me of the rates and told me a little about the handyman she would be sending. Eric called me a short time later and to my surprise Jane also followed-up with a phone call to ensure that I had received the call. Over 30 years ago, when our daughter was a student at UC Santa Cruz, my husband and I bought a fixer-upper near campus. After she graduated, we kept it as a rental, meaning that, as we live 700 miles away, we became absentee landlords. When the house needed repairs, I found a small ad in the Santa Cruz Sentinel for Handyman Co-op. I called. Jane Story answered and sent out a competent repairman. In the 30 years since then, we have relied on Jane for providing repairs from shoring up the house as the frame gave out to some major bathroom remodeling to plumbing repairs. The repairs were always very well done at a completely reasonable cost. If Jane doesn't have someone who can make the repair, she recommends someone else who can. They cleaned, repaired doors with holes in them, painted inside and out, plumbed, and restored the landscaping. They did all this in record time. Handyman returns my calls and e-mails promptly. I had a very lengthy " honey do " list that included sealing up my shed which had rats invading ( thank you Garrett, you did an awesome job!) replacement of a bathroom light fixture, pull out and dispose of a non functioning dishwasher and replacement with a nice cabinet, hanging a new blind, replacing a lame garbage disposal, repairing some countertop issues, putting my smoke detector back up on the ceiling where it was too high for me to reach, changing out a bathroom light fixture..fixing the leaking toilet...the list goes on....John Reynolds was wonderful! They don't take advantage of you if you have not idea on the scope of the project.
