In the last 20 years or so I have purchased many Toyota's. I bought a new Sienna from White River Toyota, at least 4 new (3 Prius, 1 Sienna) from Berlin City (NH), a used Sienna from Heritage, a used Corolla from Berlin City (VT) and now two cars from Handy. A new Prius Prime and a used RAV4. Up to 2010 Berlin City in NH was by far the easiest to work with and the best deals. Some people like car shopping and the whole experience where they believe they are making the best deal. Not me. I know what I want, I don't need to test drive it, I have no time for your BS. In the past only Berlin City would give firm trade offer and finalize a deal completely by phone or email. Then deliver the new car, pick up the trade and be done and gone in under 40 minutes. We once spent 3 hours at Heritage when we had already selected the desired used car from their website and had cash, so no financing required. Anyhow, I digress. In 2017 I had located a Prius Prime and secured a trade offer from Berlin City. I paid a deposit and then they were unable to obtain my desired car. I contacted Handy and shared the offer from Berlin City. They said we will match it and I was like, game on. I already knew if I tried Heritage, they would tell me to come in for a test drive and they would need to see the trade before committing. So I bought from Handy, September 2017. Then in March 2018 we wanted to trade our 2011 Sienna for a used RAV4 (2015-2016, low mileage). I downloaded Carfax, car gurus, autotrader, cars, edmunds and began the search. First up, Berlin City. They had an acceptable vehicle and offered $9,000 for the Sienna. The earth went on. I knew the "value" of the Sienna to be closer to $11,000 if I sold it and $10,000 if traded. My friends at Handy had a few used cars I liked and I told them I was trying to sell the Sienna for $10. They promptly offered 10, sight unseen and I was like, game on. After we had a deal in place, the windshield cracked. A big crack. I was pissed and assumed they would attempt to screw me by dropping the trade offer. They did not. There was no deduction at all. 1. The tailpipe on the truck I bought *fell off* after less than 2000 miles post-sale. I contacted the dealership and was told to call the service managers for help, which I did, but I never got a response from either of them. I had to get the repair done elsewhere (to the tune of 1k) after having barely driven the vehicle. 2. Don't believe Dennis when he tells you that the extended warranty will cover work done by shops outside the Handy Toyota domain. (I have yet to find a service provider that accepts it. Also don't believe them when they tell you that you can cancel it-- technically you can, but if you've financed the vehicle, the policy will continue to appear on your bill, thus driving up monthly payments and interest until the vehicle is paid off. read more

I was warned about this dealership. My Toyota Tacoma has less than 45 k mileage. I bought the truck, used, with under 30 k mileage. I only had it six months. The air conditioner didn't work. They want $1100.00 to fix it. I went past my warranty because it was winter and I never tried the AC. Then they told me I had a seep under the timing cover. Again not covered because it's not a leak yet. A seep is not a leak ? Then, to top it off, they charged me $180.00 to tell me that. This is the worst customer service I've ever heard of. Not to mention the deal on the truck itself. You gotta know the air conditioner never worked and they said nothing. Never again will I do business with Handy Toyota of St. Albans. read more

I bought a used SUV from Handy. When I was buying it, they were all nice and attentive, but when I had an issue with it after that they basically ghosted me. They claimed to have replaced both front sway bar links, but we figured out that one of them was missing entirely and the other one hadn't been replaced. They did make good on this, but then the "new" battery died. I called and asked them to pay for a replacement. Logan (sales mgr) told me to send photos of the battery and he'd "see what he could do." I did that, but many emails and phone messages later he has not responded at all. Also, my son took his brand new 4Runner there for service because the truck was vibrating. During several visits, they lied to him and were rude to him, and then ghosted him as well, refusing to answer any phone calls. They won't work with credit unions. They want to control the rates and do their own credit checks. I've been burned heavily in the past by dealerships who do this as a young and dumb girl. i won't do it again for a lot of reasons. To avoid this from happening again, I get pre qualified with my own loan agent through my bank that I trust. They tried to tell my that my bank isnt following regulations (a lie), and that I could do this their way or not at all. obviously I left. Anyone that pushy is not getting my money. i went immediately to Bokan down the road and bought a beautiful Jeep compass. They were great! read more

A year ago I reached out online to learn about the used cars they had for sale. Spoke with a salesman who insisted I come in to test drive. I scheduled an appointment to meet with him the next day and took time off work to do so. When I arrived he was with other customers and basically gave me the keys to the cars and quickly sent me on my way. The cars were disgusting. One was so scratched up I didn't even drive it. Another smelled so bad I had to drive it with the windows down. I would never pay $35,000+ for vehicles in this condition. When I returned the salesman was still with the other customers. I left the keys for him and went home. At that point I decided to switch gears and began looking at new cars. I reached back out to the salesman two days later (mistake #1, as he never followed up with me). He told me they have the exact car I want on the lot, BUT, they will only sell it to me if I have a trade! I don't have a vehicle to trade and I had been very upfront about that. Business is obviously booming right now and I am aware that there is a shortage of vehicles. But, to tell a customer you don't want their business blows my mind. You may regret that when the economy tanks and you can't move cars off your lots. In addition I reached out to the GM to share my experience and my concern and he couldn't be bothered to respond to me. We've bought our last 2 trucks at Handy Chevrolet but we won't be back for the next one. Handy's has lost our business forever. Be where of this dealership. I bought a used 2022 Toyota Carolla which the salesman said sold for 22,000 but in order to buy it I had to purchase an Extended Warranty for 4,000. Bringing the price of a used 2022 vehicle to 25,999. Come to find out 4 months later when I sold the car there was no Extended Warranty. All three managers just lied their butts off. Worst experience with a dealership ever. Very poor service and customer relations. Harrassed repeatedly by staff member Jordan and dismissed by manager Adam as a non customer. I am incredibly dissatisfied with my experience while getting my car serviced at Handy Toyota. I thought the estimated costs and fees were transparent while work was being done on my car. However a communicated ~$900 total bumped to ~$2000 AFTER the work had been done on my car and could not be undone, due to a labor fee of over $1000. When looking at the paper work, I was charged for 8 hours of labor service (at $127.50 that had never been discussed) when my car was only in the garage for 4 hours. When picking up my car, Ethan Raymond, who had been communicating with me was no longer there, so I paid and immediately called him to figure out what had gone wrong, communicate my frustration about the lack of (or select) transparency, and be refunded the $500 I was overcharged in labor fess. I have now called Ethan Raymond twice and Jason Poquette once within a week, both no answer or call return - complete radio silence. read more

Brought my car in on a Saturday for a seasonal tire change. When I got it back, one of the brake lines had been bent and was in contact with the wheel, making it unsafe to drive. Had to leave it there until Monday for them to fix it. Brought it home only for it to start having the exact same issue a few days later. Now I have to go somewhere else to get their mistake fixed for the second time. I have had service done here in the past without any issues, but I'm not coming back again if their current service team can't even do a simple tire change without damaging my car. read more

I deliver parts for a local repair shop. I often have to pickup or return parts. Not only does the parts department give out wrong parts, there is a big difference between a brake drum and a brake rotor, but the parts team acts as though they are the ones being inconvenienced after they gave me the wrong parts. I plan on buying a new Toyota this summer, but rather than deal with this dealership, I will find one that believes in customer service. read more

I would not recommend servicing your vehicle at Handy Toyota. Over the last 10 years I've purchased 3 cars from Handy. They are the closest Toyota dealer to me and I use them for the complimentary Toyota 24 month service for my Toyota vehicles weather I buy them at Handy or not. My last service appointment I brought my new 22' Tundra in for warranty work. The vehicle had about 6000 miles on it. After half day of diagnosis Handy found I had a bad electronic sensor. They would not cover it under warranty and really gave no reason as to why they wouldn't cover it under warranty then to say my vehicle must have been hit without my knowledge and I should file an insurance claim. My vehicle in fact has never been hit and there is absolutely zero damage and no signs of any impact to my vehicle. The cost of the repair was over $1900. I immediately filed a complaint with Toyota and Toyota refunded most of the repair bill. I'll never do business with Handy Toyota again. Definity not people I trust. read more

I had a very frustrating experience with this dealership. I am sorry to be writing this review. It is the first review I have ever written, but my experience was so negative. I tried to purchase a vehicle from them for a week. I was constantly told that I could not see it and it was in their shop. I was also told that as soon as it became available I would be contacted and it would be held. I was told this by two associates on different occasions. So, I decided to make the drive out to Handy and see if they were any different. Ali was extremely professional and answered all my questions. Started with a $750 quote that turned out to be more than $1600! Did more damage to my car than good. Tried to do the right thing speaking to their service manager only to be told that their so called master technician wouldn't do any damage and if he did? He would be honest. In my experience he's not honest and the service manager is lacking to say the least. Not only do I get stuck with a $1600 bill, but all of the work they did needs to be redone after just 150 miles. I had a great experience with Handy Toyota in St. Albans. Every step of the way, they were really helpful, answering any questions I had about the cars, and the buying process. Kyle helped me pick the best car for my daily commute, and explained not only the pros, but the cons of the different options. I didn't feel like I was being pushed into a more expensive car for the sake of a sale. After the sale, he even shared some really fun LARPing stories with me - he looks very regal in his chainmail and his other costume, which he was quick to point out embodied a mage, not a wizard, in case you were wondering. Once I picked out a car, I took some time to shop around. Adam offered me an amazing deal that no other Toyota dealer would beat. Jordyn was super helpful, and clearly explained how lease financing works (I've never leased before). She walked me through the process, and by the end, all of my questions were answered without me even having to ask. I just took home my first brand new car ('18 RAV4 Hybrid!), my second vehicle after my '13 Prius, and the TENTH vehicle my family, across multiple generations, has purchased from the folks here at Handy's. Frankly I've nothing but good things to say about this place. Buying my Prius a few years ago was quick and easy; they didn't try to pressure me into any decisions but knew exactly what I needed when I described the type and amount of driving I do for work. And, for the years I had it, I always brought it back up the highway to their service center for any and all routine maintenance or repair - there are very few other shops I'd trust with my car. Eventually the Prius passed away when it had a slight incident with an SUV, and I decided I needed a newer, bigger vehicle that could access Vermont back roads in the winter and carry my ever-expanding set of tools. I reached out to Handy's immediately to ask about their stock, and Samantha very kindly made a YouTube video for me showing the interior and exterior of the RAV4 I'd shown interest in. When I showed up to check out the car, Samatha had three different trim levels parked out front waiting for me, and after some test drives I immediately fell in love with the Limited trim level - of course the most expensive! Well, that was no problem, because they did their best to get the price down to where I could afford it comfortably, and with a great interest rate! Reg, who helped us with all the paperwork and options and financing, made a great catch on one of the warrantees; noting that I drive so much, he found an option that extended it from 75k to 125k miles at no additional cost, very possibly saving me a boatload in the future. On top of all that, they're just nice here! I've always been made to feel like part of the family, and indeed my mom's known half of these folks since the mid-80s (sorry mom!) and although they're bigger now it's still the family business it's been since the beginning. read more

What a HUGE disappointment upon the delivery today of a 2015 Toyota Tundra Crewmax. I was led to believe I was being well taken care of when purchasing this truck for my husband as a surprise Christmas present. The transaction by phone and email went very smoothly. We are 2 hours away, so I/we had not seen the truck. However, my son lives in Milton, so he went and looked it over on Sunday 12/16. He gave me the thumbs up, that it was a clean truck and would be a good purchase. Upon arrival at my office today, my very excited hubby and I went out to look at our new truck. The very nice gentleman that was making the delivery started showing us the truck and said "they told me you know about this large scratch and they are going to buff it out for you"! I was stunned!! I knew nothing about the large scratch and it was not there on Sunday when my son did his inspection. I immediately called the dealership and spoke to Jamie. He claimed no one at the dealership knew about it. He asked me what I wanted done about it as the truck was already there. I told him I wanted it fixed. He said that was not possible. I then asked to speak with his boss, who is said was the General Manager. Well, of course the GM was supposedly not there and I was not allowed to talk to him. They then put me on with Kyle who is the sales manager. I asked him why I was not notified of the damage and he said that no one knew anything about it. Well, this is absolutely NOT true. The man delivering it stated he noticed it before he left and pointed it out to Wade. He said that Wade wanted to have it buffed out before being delivered but Kyle informed them that I was already aware and to just deliver it. He offered to take $500 off the sale and said I could accept that or the driver could bring it back and he would cancel the sale. I suggested I take it to Alderman's Toyota to be fixed and he just take care of cost associated with the repair. He said, no...my offer is $500. Well, here I sit with my husband who thinks he is getting a new truck for Christmas and what am I supposed to tell him. Sorry my love, but I'm sending it back because Handy Toyota is the most dishonest company I have ever dealt with. He said, I will get it fixed, just sign the paperwork, and we did. Unfortunately, Handy Toyota got my money because they knew the predicament that I would be in (Christmas, with a big present and having to send it back) they took total advantage of my vulnerability. I had entrusted them to be fair, honest and truthful, but apparently they do not feel a need to treat their customers with respect. Do not trust this business. An insincere apology after the fact, does not constitute good customer service. Management/owners needs to step up to the plate and speak with customers and offer restitution for damage caused by the neglect of their employees. I hope nobody else suffers the troubles and disappointment that I have by this business. read more

Extremely pushy to get me into an old vehicle and trying to convince me to take out a larger loan than my new 2016 WRX, for a vehicle 6 years old. A lot of vehicles and very nice show room, but the sales rep I dealt with made it enough of a bad experience that I will not be going back there to purchase a new vehicle. read more

This is my second toyota tacoma in a row. I wish I had purchased my last one here. This place staffs the best sales people. I did not ever feel pressured into buying. Jordan simply took all my criteria and showed me multiple options that had the features I was looking for. In the end, I got a good deal and another great Toyota product. Jordan went the extra mile. While I was working out the financing details, he transferred my truck bed mat into my new vehicle in the cold rain and made sure everything was ready so that when I was done with the financing I could just get in the truck and go. I really appreciated the extra attention to detail to make the experience more enjoyable. I will be back there for my wife's vehicle in a couple years. read more

My family and I just spent an hour and half waiting for a valve stem replacement and when we got home, we checked and they did NOTHING. The valve is not new and it looks like the tire wasn't even touched, let alone removed to fix. The tire pressure began at 26 psi. We got it back at 26 psi. You'd think a professional dealership would make sure the problem tire had proper air pressure before it left their lot. But nope. I guess when you're under warranty and they wont get any money out of you, they only pretend to fix your vehicle. I do NOT reccomend them to anyone, ever. I bought my car a year ago from this place. When I bought my car I was told that the break pads just need to driven because it was making shaky and flattering when i press on the break. I was told to drive it for 30miles, which I did. ended up going back to this place because the breaks never get better. They did replace and fix the problem. But you would think this should've been replaced and inspected before I even bought the car. Today, I came back for my free inspection because I'm driving across country to California and wanted to get my car inspected. When I scheduled my car inspection I was told that I still have one free inspection. Apparently NOT. Dennis Pearce at the shop today said it expired 3 months ago, and rudely say that "I should take responsibility". I bought this extra service and since buying my car a year ago I have never use any of it because I live 1 hr away. The least they can do is let me use at least one of my already paid service for the last time. But no, all I got was rudeness and unpleasant comments. read more

I had one of the best experiences here at Handy. I had my eye on a preowned vehicle back in 2017 so I had gone up to test drive it. I fell in love with it and deiced to buy It. They worked with me through every step of the way including the painstaking new insurance policy for the vehicle. Process was seamless and quick and they even threw in a free year of Handy Care. I'm changing my initial positive review the Handy Toyota dealership since they refused to take any responsibility for correcting a mistake they made when I purchased the car. When examining a used 2011 Highlander for purchase, I asked if the "glass hatch" (the window in the lift gate) should open on this model. I was told "no", so I signed the paper confirming the car was purchased "as is". However, when I brought the car home and read the manual, it said the window was supposed to open. I pressed the unobtrusive button to open the window, but it only opened 3'' so something was clearly broken. Since the sales department misrepresented this feature on the car, I asked that they fix it at Handy's expense--a $299 fix--since I would have made the hatch opening it a condition of sale, but they simply repeated I had purchased the vehicle "as is." No offer to split the difference, nothing. Meanwhile, the service department fixed the window at the specified price. My conclusion is that once they sell a vehicle, they're done with you. Be very careful what you sign when you purchase from Handy in St. Albans. read more

I ended up having to call back the following day after not hearing anything to be told that they "can no longer lease that truck". Brought my Camry in for a recall item. I was called a few days later saying the car was ready. I picked it up only to break down a few feet down the road. After several trips back to service they called to say I need a skid control unit and it is my fault! How could I drop off my car that had nothing wrong and get it back with a $2,500 problem? They argued that it didn't happen when they had my car however when I sat on the side of the road broken down and called Patrick in Service advising what was happening with my car he said to me "Oh yes this happened when our mechanic took it out for a test drive!!!!!!" Now they released my vehicle back to me when it is UNSAFE to drive!!! The only thing they fall back on is to say it is because my vehicle has a lot of miles. Way to stick up for the product you sell. I'm sick this is what they think of their customers. Wonder how many other people will pick up their car and experience new problems caused by their service department. I had time to test drive the car on Sat. but by the time I got back they had another customer waiting to test drive the car AND they had already accepted a deposit. What a waste of time! Update: Handy's downtown has turned my experience around! They helped me get out from under the jeep and into a new car! (Again) It has been a headache, but hopefully coming to a happy ending soon. They will be delivering the car to me as I've driven up there going on 6 times! I know I've been a pain but they have helped me each step of the way! Well I bought a 2011 Jeep Liberty from Handy's downtown, the day i went on the test drive the engine light was on I told Cody, that it needs to be addressed and fixed before i bought the car. Buying the car was a nightmare, i was called multiple times about applying online when I already had a bank check. When i got there I had been told the engine light was a misfire, he stated that it was fixed. 2 days after I bought the car my it started knocking (NOT GOOD) so i called Handy's downtown and they told me to bring it to Handys Toyota so they could take a look at it. They were so friendly! They had my car for a day and told me that's what my car was supposed to sound like. Okay, fast forward to the next day there was NO coolant in my car. I put coolant in it and it sucked it right down because the radiator must have been empty. So then 10 days later my engine light flipped on and the knock got harder. I called handys toyota again and they told me to call a certified jeep dealer, I did that they told me to bring it in. While waiting for my appointment, my engine light starts to flash when before it gets to running temp. Obviously somethings wrong here. On my appointment day, they told me it needs spark plugs and coil packs. But they weren't sure where the knocking sound was coming from, so they were going to keep it over night and test it when it was cold.It needs lifters and rockers (which is inside the motor).
