It has an old school, mom and pop store feel where the person behind the counter actually knows the people who come in, they talk to you, jokes around with you, and pay attention to what customers need.
I knew that Jimmy had dog food, so I asked him if getting chicken feed was an option. He looked into it, ordered it, and then made sure to let me know when it came in. If customers suggest something they'd like to see stocked, he listens. If he can get it, he'll try. If he can't, he'll tell you that too.
Jimmy cares about his employees, his customers, and the store itself. He treats people with respect regardless of who walks through the door, but he also has rules and boundaries and enforces them. He works hard to keep the store clean, safe, and welcoming, and he doesn't tolerate people causing problems for his employees or customers. At the same time, he's usually laughing, joking, and cutting up with somebody. He creates an environment where people can have fun and feel welcome while still making it very clear that everyone is expected to behave and respect the store and the people in it.
The store is small and packed with merchandise, but that's because they fit an impressive amount into a little store. You can grab coffee in the morning, drinks, snacks, household basics, and random things you didn't know you needed without having to make an entire trip to Walmart. For those of us who live nearby, being able to run around the corner instead of driving into town is worth it.
I appreciate that the Mini Mart feels like part of the community. They support local people, listen to their customers, remember what people ask for, and try to make the store better with the resources and space they have.
Jimmy has dealt with plenty of challenges running a small business, but he continues putting time, money, and effort back into his store and into the people who come through it. You can tell he takes pride in what he's built.
This is NOT a corporate convenience store. It's a small, locally run store where you're treated like an actual person instead of a transaction.
