For context, I was the point person for my company organizing this on behalf of my employer with Handstand. We just completed a Hunt across 4 different departments spanning over 40 people just yesterday and it went over smoother than I could've ever imagined and people really enjoyed themselves. We split into 7 teams of 5-6 and had our hunt by our office in Soma. Things got very competitive amongst teams and people were so into it that they not only told me how much fun they had, but they also were in need of massages after all the running they did due to how into it people got. From a planning and prep perspective, I needed to finalize our list and give names and email addresses of all our participants. I chose to split up the teams a certain way, but Handstand can randomize that for you, and I also needed to fill in a questionnaire to allow Handstand to customize the hunt for us. But then that was pretty much it from my end. All the participants and I got together 30 minutes before the hunt to make sure everyone had the app downloaded and that we went over the slideshow Handstand sent us which goes over the really simple rules. As a whole, the planning is really easy and Handstand keeps things super simple so that there doesn't need to be intensive resources set up organizing this. The hunt itself was very well done. The app uses your GPS to make sure you solve riddles in the proper location and make sure you take interactive pictures and videos along the way. It also had the right level of difficulty that even with using google, things aren't obvious. The customization from our questionnaire was also super well done and I'd recommend you not telling the participants ahead of time that there will be custom questions based on the input you give Handstand as it's a really cool surprise to see a photo or a fact about one of your coworkers in a riddle. Lastly, Right after the Hunt, you get sent all the photos and videos people took for a slideshow which people got really into. 10/10. We really enjoyed this. Kyler was our point person and was incredibly helpful throughout the whole process. I'd highly recommend this to any company looking to bring people together in a genuine and engaging way. read more

We had Handstand create a custom hunt for us for a joint bachelor/bachelorette party. Handstand was fantastic to work with, they created a hunt of just the right difficulty and length for our party, and customized the riddles to include specific tidbits about us as a couple. They also gave us a folder of all of our pictures and videos at the end of the day, so now we have some awesome keepsakes to go along with our great story. Our company worked with HH to have a team event around our North Beach location. It was a huge success! Our CEO said it was our best event yet. The HH team worked with us to customize the game a bit based on some team/company additions, which were really fun. The riddles were challenging and interesting. We did this for a company event and had a blast! I only wish it had lasted longer than the 2.5 hour hunt. There was an appropriate mix of easy and difficult clues, and none of those impossibly obscure ones where the clue maker is just showing off. We ended up having to cover quite a distance (~6 mi in 2.5 hours), which worked for us, but may not be for everyone. read more

These guys did an amazing job of building a tailored scavenger hunt that helped our team build connection through a shared desire to solve puzzles together and to be competitive with other teams at our company. This is an outstanding team-building event for an office and a very reasonable price! I organized a scavenger hunt for my office as a fun summer event with our interns. The hunt was a huge success and I got many compliments from my coworkers about how much fun it was. The questions were sufficiently challenging and even though I have lived in San Francisco for several years, I discovered a lot of interesting gems hidden in the North Beach neighborhood. We broke up into groups of four and did a two-hour hunt, ending up at Chief Sullivan's near Washington Square Park. We all thought that was sufficient time to get through most of the questions and I don't think people would have had enough energy to go much longer. I will say that in those two hours most of our fully-charged phones were either completely or almost completely drained. So I highly recommend bringing extra battery packs, and/or alternating which team member uses his or her phone to view the questions and submit answers. Kyler was my point of contact throughout the reservation process. He was extremely helpful and responsive. He helped customize the event for my group and handled last-minute changes very effectively. Gil is one of the engineers at Handstand who was on call during the entirety of the scavenger hunt to answer any questions. If anybody had a question they could just tap an icon in the app and immediately start a video chat with Gil, which was extremely helpful. In summary, this was an awesome activity that got us to get outside and taught us about our city. We absolutely will book another hunt in the future. read more

We did this scavenger hunt for a team event with work and can't say enough great things. It was even customized, with some unique puzzles related to our company. There's an app that each participant downloads onto his or her phone to access the game. Each question requires different kinds of answers--text, photo, or video--and anyone on your team can submit. Since you're on your phone, the app knows your location and will only accept answers if you're in the proper location. It also shows you standings in real time and support is always available. You can even FaceTime for fast help! We had a lot of fun, and it was great to see a curated slideshow at the end with all of our content submissions. In hindsight, it would have been fun to also see stats for each team post-game (who had the most efficient--or inefficient--routes, interesting facts, or other competitive highlights), but maybe that's just me. The only potential downside is that it's not yet great for Android users. A few coworkers had trouble playing since they weren't able to submit content. But I'm sure that's coming soon! A+ read more

I played in the SF Hunt in 3 different cities - SF, Seattle, Boston - and these folks are not lying when they say it's the best day ever! I highly recommend this - whether you're a tourist or in your hometown, it's an epic way to spend your Saturday. A 12-hour scavenger hunt sounds a little crazy, but the day flies by because its so fun!! I was continually impressed by the way they curated every moment of the day to take the experience to the next level - surprise pink bears with answers to riddles, cookies when you're hungry, deals on beer when you need a break, silly challenges, prizes, FaceTime calls to your mom...and the constant energy and positivity of the organizers. The experience is flexible enough so that you can be as competitive or relaxed as you want, and have a blast whatever you do. The after-party was also a great time! read more
