    Cheese plate, drink, clay

Love Morgan and her studio so much! I have worked with Morgan before on buying my own clay, making pieces and firing but this was my first time at her studio for a workshop! Everything was done so tastefully! From the wine, cheese and desserts, to the class and helpers walking around, it was the most fun night away, creating three bud vases! The Handmade team made our experience wonderful and we can not wait to go back!

Everything I saw was healthy and well cared for. There is so much that it takes a while to choose! Friendly staff, tons to choose from, healthy plants. As Arnold said, 'I'll be back!'

I'm never in this part of town so 'getting' to drive here was a pleasure. I love that I am still…read moreable to 'discover' Nashville these [redacted] years later. And it was doubly exciting because I very rarely ever shop at a nursery or go in search of one. This was one for the ages. It may not be the first place that comes to mind when holiday shopping but I had the idea of gifting a series of flowers that align with birth months, anniversaries and special memories as gifts. Think of it as 'art' that lives in your yard. But that's about all I had figured out. Luckily, the folks at Bates took care of the rest. First things first, the place is large. It's not overwhelmingly so (so, not Opryland) but it's big enough that if you don't know what you're doing or what you're looking for, you're going to be the Sims character who just spins. Not being shy about my lack of clues, I walked up to the desk and said what I was trying to do/buy and I didn't know what else to do after that. After being complimented about my thoughtfulness, I was tag-teamed: I was given directions to find a specific person to talk to about flowers and another about shrubbery. Given that you will actually be walking through distinct areas/zones, I was given landmarks to note. I appreciated all of this. I was a fish out of water and every instruction was a sign of kindness. I found my first contact (who had been given a heads up by walkie talkie) and she was awesome. She was so awesome that I just went all in with flowers and forgot the shrubs. She explained zones, planting times, soil, perennials vs annuals, etc. I took notes (seriously). And then she started walking me through the selection. Bates.Has.Everything. They do. Don't ask. Just trust. And a side effect of having everything is fair pricing. They have everything and they have a lot of it so you aren't on the hook to spend a lot due to scarcity. I left the nursery with a bit of an education, plants that mean something to the recipients and continue to adorn yards, money in my pocket for other gifts, and a good feeling from shopping local and supporting a business that's been around for almost 100 years. There are so many cool businesses to discover on Yelp outside of food and drink. Dig in, explore and patronize what makes your metro unique.

This place is filled from floor to ceiling, no embellishment, with doors, windows, mantels, hardware, door knobs, lights, handles, cabinets and other items. While majority of the items were aged quite a bit, it did appear that they had some new build doors and such if that is what you are after. Honestly, I think 50% of the inventory is doors of some variety, and I wasn't mad it! It is such a cool space to wander around for a bit. We stopped by looking for antique furniture and while they have a few pieces, that is not what this place is about. Even though we didn't find what we were after, it was cool to wander up and down the hallways and through the maze of rooms scoping out the goods...we really loved some of the windows and lights they have hanging around. Some absolutely beautiful, and pricey, finds that I could see absolutely making a space! The staff was pleasant and friendly, she greeted us when we were walking around and again as we were leaving. Overall, I could see the need and popularity of a place like this, especially when it comes to remodeling, replacing or upgrading a space.

They have everything you can think of for your garden. Plants, pots, watering cans, soil, fertilizer etc. it's bigger than it looks from the outside. Their selection is better than any other local nursery I've been to (I've been to most of them at this point), the employees are extremely knowledgeable and helpful, and the quality of their plants, soil, and other products is top notch. They also have a lovely little store with local food, honey, and other products. Everything is reasonably priced and comparable to other garden centers -- I also love that they sell the same kind of plants in various sizes and number increments so you don't have to buy way more than you actually need! Overall, I rate Martin's as a garden wonderland and can't recommend them enough
