I've thought a lot about how to rate Southeastern Salvage since I had a mixed experience here. I did end up buying a nice side table for my living room but not without confusion. I wasted a lot of time trying to find someone to help me and wondering how to make my purchase. S.S. is one huge warehouse of home decor, furniture, plumbing/sinks and flooring options which are somewhat categorized by a banner hanging from the ceiling to indicate what 'section' you are in. They did not have a specific section for nightstands or end tables, they were just randomly clustered throughout their selection of coffee tables and cabinets. They do have a lot of really unique and interesting pieces. Their prices do not reflect that a lot of these items have repurposed wood or other materials. I think that overall their prices are too expensive for the items that they are selling. Getting assistance finding what I needed here was a challenge. I first went up to the register and they said they'd call someone from that department to help me, but told me to go wait by the item that I had a question about. I waited for a while then realized that I saw someone from the furniture "department" sitting at a desk. I walked over and asked if there were any other side tables or if I was looking in the right spot. He gestured vaguely at the section I was already in and said that they didn't have a lot right now and I was in the right section. He didn't offer to help me look or to have someone help point out what they did have. I looked for a few more minutes then went back and asked how I should go about buying a piece I had decided on. By that time another employee was over by the desk (again not seeming interested in assisting customers) and told me that he would write up my order but he needed to go find a pad and pencil to write it down. He wrote down the item on a piece of paper and handed it to me. I stared at it then asked what I should do with that and he told me that he'd put the side table on the dock for pickup and I should go back to the original register I had started at. I went back to the register to find two employees idly engaged in conversation. The person who rang me up was nice enough but was multitasking by answering a phone at the same time that she was helping me check out and not asking the caller to hold for a moment while we finished up at the register. Again, I didn't feel like a priority and was put off. I pulled my car around to the loading dock and an employee took my receipt and went to retrieve the side table. He put the side table standing up in my car and then walked off. I layed the table on the side (as it should have been properly put horizontally in the car from toppling over and getting damaged in the first place) and drove off in disgust. It seemed odd how unprepared and unwilling they were to try and help me. It honestly did make me question if I should just walk out and not buy anything. I do like my side table but I don't think I'll be back since it was such a hassle.

We found our countertops at The Greenville Home Emporium. The selection of butcherblock is outstanding. They have doors, rugs, and too much to list.

I was barred from entering the show room until I told the (very rude) receptionist why I was there! When I explained what I was looking for I was told "we don't have that" and then she proceeded to turn around and deal with someone else who apparently deserved attention more. I asked another employee where the sinks were located and I was shooed away and told "over there" as she gestured to an entire side of the showroom. Every time I ran into an employee here I was not asked if I needed help, I wasn't even greeted or smiled at - instead I was given a smug "smile" if you could call it that and was asked to move out of the way. I have been to many high end design showrooms with price points much higher than Ferguson and have never been treated like this. I understand that making an appointment is the ideal way of doing business, however there needs to be a way to accommodate customers without treating them like trash. Whoever is in charge of the sales floor - I hope you read this and I hope some changes are made.

Upscale options and tremendous variety abound! But when you're not visiting just to gawk, and you're genuinely attempting to assemble components for your soon-to-be refurbished home bathrooms, you begin to see the shortcomings of Ferguson. Despite numerous employees, forget anyone helping you because you'll soon discover that all the other customers have "made a reservation." Okay, that's an easy issue to solve in the future. Without a "reservation" we were encouraged to scan QR codes for each display to determine available finishes, prices, and measurements. But not even the most modern phones could scan the world's tiniest QR codes throughout the store. The lighting is odd within the store, so significant that you cannot clearly determine whether the color or finish you're considering would look appropriate in your bathroom at home. All of their competitor's stores are sufficiently lit. As we looked for a top to our bathroom vanity, we learned Ferguson doesn't sell vanity tops. They only sell the entire vanity. We have seven-foot-long bathroom vanities in all of our bathrooms like everyone else in our neighborhood does. It's not unusual. However, Ferguson's vanities apparently max out at six feet, so this was obviously no use to us. And don't even get us started on how convoluted the Ferguson website is! We ended up designing our two remodeled bathrooms at a different store.

The box actually looked like it had drifted through the 2010 Opryland atrium flood, I pictured it wedged between a kapok tree and bowl of artichoke dip. But, I mean it's a beautiful bronze faucet. It could withstand anything. Right?! Fast forward, missing parts clamps, washers , rings, returning plumbers , on line orders, wrong size replacement products. 20 hours later of labor and my time surfing the net to find the right part. I finally solved the problem. Told them and they said oh wow sorry. I asked for a discount for all the inconvenience and the money spent and time lost. They said. Oh I'm sorry. This place is filled from floor to ceiling, no embellishment, with doors, windows, mantels, hardware, door knobs, lights, handles, cabinets and other items. While majority of the items were aged quite a bit, it did appear that they had some new build doors and such if that is what you are after. Honestly, I think 50% of the inventory is doors of some variety, and I wasn't mad it! It is such a cool space to wander around for a bit. We stopped by looking for antique furniture and while they have a few pieces, that is not what this place is about. Even though we didn't find what we were after, it was cool to wander up and down the hallways and through the maze of rooms scoping out the goods...we really loved some of the windows and lights they have hanging around. Some absolutely beautiful, and pricey, finds that I could see absolutely making a space! The staff was pleasant and friendly, she greeted us when we were walking around and again as we were leaving. Overall, I could see the need and popularity of a place like this, especially when it comes to remodeling, replacing or upgrading a space.

This place is like if a country singer, an interior designer, and an old general store all decided to start a lifestyle brand together. It's packed with everything from candles that smell like wealth and nostalgia, to mugs that make you question your current kitchen aesthetic.
