What I later realized to be common at restaurants in Oslo was a buffet-like display of food, but the dishes are singular menu items vs. being able to add a little of everything to your plate. I opted for a salad-bowl type dish, full of fresh delicious veggies (which was much needed after a long flight.) However, they also had plenty of heartier dishes if you needed something with a bit more weigh to it. All food is ordered at the counter and the employees were very helpful guiding my partner and I (and easily accommodated our english only language skills.) The space on the inside was a bit on the small side, but they had a lovely patio in the back that's perfect in the beautiful summer season of Oslo. Definitely a necessary stop for vegans traveling through.

Sadly we did not have a good experience. We got the Shepard's Pie and the Rainbow salad. The Shepard's pie was basically all potato - had no real flavor, it was supposed to have other filling but it was so minimal and lacking in effort, it was just very disappointing. It's supposed to come with quinoa and salad - our server gave us very little quinoa; we saw other patrons ordering similar dishes with much more. The Rainbow salad was extremely boring and they were out of the soy chicken which was a main appeal and instead of offering perhaps their baked tofu or some other specialty we were only offered an extra side. Water is free. Maybe we got bad dishes but this was a big no from us and disappointing for the money. Atmosphere**** Indoor and outdoor seating was nice. Seat yourself and restroom available. Service *** Counter service was fast but as stated previously, the portions were inconsistent between the servers. Price $$

I believe Pascal Dupuy is Norway's leading pastry chef. At least that was what the poster said…read more Besides, he has four of these cafes in Oslo, so who can argue with success? Even though Pascal serves savory cafe fare, most of the attention seemed focused on their rainbow macaroon display and their visually arresting desserts. What drew our attention was all their photos of their soft-serve which they call Softis. It looked really creamy and they covered it in colorful macaron crumbs and placed one macaroon on top. It would be our choice which one to select. After walking to the Royal Palace from our hotel near the train station, we felt we could justify splitting one as it was only about 63 NOK or about $6.50 in US dollars (photo: https://bit.ly/3PNxVtl). Quite a treat though we weren't allowed to sit in the cafe due, I believe, to COVID restrictions. Jamie W. wanted to return a week later when we were back in Oslo. He wanted his own cup since I pinched the peanut butter macaroon entirely. Sharing is for losers. I think that was what Mister Rogers said. SOFT-SERVE - 4 stars...creamy indulgence and a creative reuse of macarons AMBIANCE - 4 stars...a nice-looking pastry shop close to all the important sights SERVICE - 4 stars...service with a smile TOTAL - 4 stars...who doesn't need a softis? Named after Pastry Chef Pascal Dupuy, born French but trained in Norway and part of Oslo's dining…read morescene since 1995, Pascal now consists of several Patisseries and Restaurants including the largest near The Royal Palace. Officially addressed Henrik Ibsens Gate 36, one of the few locations open on Sunday while much of Oslo rests, guests are invited to dine from 12h00 to 17h00 on a collection of Pastries, Salads, Soups, Sandwiches and Desserts. Staffed by friendly servers from take-out to the table, all English fluent with a menu to match, Coffee ranges 49-65 NOK including everything from an honest Espresso to a towering Mocha on Ice. Regarded by Relais Dessert International and Guide des Croqueurs de Chocolat, a range of Truffles lining shelves, Viennoserie is a mixed experience including a good Pan au Chocolate but soggy Almond Croissant while Flan a la Vanille consists of a good Crust surrounding soft Custard with evidence of pure Vanilla Beans throughout. More pricey for Entremet, available to go but plated with Crème Anglaise or Fruit Purees on-site, Pascal's Rhubarb Tart is artful in terms of taste as well as texture while the Feuilletine trends a bit sticky in the Caramel layer which makes cutting without a knife something of a mess. Perhaps best known for homemade Softeis, undeniably produced with top quality Cream and smooth as silk, diners may choose to add a number of toppings with Sea Salt Caramel and crumbled Macarons in a variety of flavors the most popular for good reason.

It's like a proper delicatessen that is also a restaurant, and has a bunch of artesian gourmet products, sauces, dressings, cheese, meats that you can buy to take home with you. They have a a la carte menu for the restaurant, or you can just drop in and buy some of the freshly made salads of the day or even grab a slice of cake. We had a deal with a charcuterie board, a glass of red wine each, and dessert, and added some olives and vegetarian spring rolls to go with the meal, all very fresh. I had the cheesecake for dessert and my partner had the tiramisu. Both were delicious. I feel like I shouldn't review this place because I want to go back. It's small and intimate, and I want to be able to get a table next time, I'd be very surprised if it doesn't become popular :)

However, yesterday my friend was craving some dessert late at night and after a quick search we realized that actual desserts are served here. Walked in around 9pm and they were wrapping up for the day, but the flan was staring at us along with some other desserts. We opted for a to go portion of the flan which was a great portion for two people and SUPER GOOD!!!!! I cannot wait to be back, grab some more flan and try their tiramisu and creme brulee. Prices for the desserts were all under 10USD which for Norway levels is okay.
