The place is nestled inside a Japanese restaurant, which can make it tricky to find if you aren't already familiar with the location. They give you both the Japanese and Korean menus at the table. The food was definitely KBBQ, but this is not a typical KBBQ restaurant where you would choose from a variety of or cook your own meats. I've been coming here for about six years and have always had good experiences, which makes this visit especially disappointing. Tonight, I was served moldy banchan. It had visible white fuzzy mold and tasted like mold after I ate some of it. The server was apologetic and took it back right away, but when the manager came out, she insisted it was not mold and argued with me for several minutes. She even spoke to me in a condescending way, questioning whether I knew what the dish was called in Korean. I may not be Korean, but I am very familiar with this dish and even have it at home--this was absolutely not normal. Instead of taking accountability, they brought out unsolicited items (a squid dish and later ice cream), even after I said I didn't want anything else. At that point, I just wanted to leave. What was most frustrating is that the bill initially came with no adjustment at all. Only after I pushed back did they take $30 off a $170 bill for two people. That's not acceptable given that I was served and ATE moldy food. I've worked in the restaurant industry for over 20 years, and the way this situation was handled was extremely poor. A sincere apology, accountability, and a reasonable adjustment to the bill would have gone a long way. Unfortunately, based on this experience, I won't be returning. read more

We ordered the beef and pork combo, which is meant for two people but we were surprised by how much food actually came out. It didn't even fit on our table! In addition to the combo, we also tried a roll and the spicy edamame. The edamame wasn't spicy at all instead, it had more of a hoisin sauce flavor, which was a letdown. Service wise, there wasn't a specific server assigned to our table, but all the staff were friendly and attentive. That said, our food took a while to arrive, and we noticed other tables that came in after us were served much sooner. On a positive note, the lemonade was really refreshing and definitely a highlight of the meal. Overall, while the portions were generous, the combo plates felt overpriced, and the experience didn't quite live up to expectations. The service and the location are great. The people were wonderful, but if you're expecting a KBBQ or even basic korean food experience like you might get in say, Oakland or K-town in LA (as stand-ins for the real-deal, obviously), you'll probably be a bit disappointed. First off - the menu's a bit limited and a bit precious when it comes to the korean fare. The banchan (usually served as a free side with whatever dish you might order at something like an AYCE place) is $15, and honestly not terribly good - one of the dishes was literally about two tablespoons of macaroni salad in a small bowl that came with our box set. The rest was pretty standard fare, but if I had paid $15 just for that, I'd be pretty upset. The beef bulgogi, on the other hand? Delicious. Very tasty, and a nice, sizable portion that came with the appropriate sides. We also ordered the agedashi tofu off the japanese menu, which was....interesting. It was 8-10 small, fried bits of tofu with such a miserly amount of tsuyu I genuinely thought they had forgotten to pour any into the bowl. The tofu was well-fried and nice and crispy, but the tofu texture itself was marshmallowy and gummy. If you're coming with a large group, it's great - more than enough space to accommodate nice sized groups of 8 easily; more if you plan ahead so it's pretty ideal if you need something for a group. Bottom line: if you're not terribly familiar with Korean food and don't have expectations going in, you'll enjoy the experience of having something different close by in Santa Rosa. If you're expecting a traditional Korean dinner -- this isn't quite it. read more

Came here for lunch, it's a fusion restaurant that sells sushi and Korean. The service was okay nothing over the top special and nothing horrible. I ordered the LA kalbi which was sweet, the flavor was good nothing overly the top amazing but it was tasty given that I was craving it so bad! Personally, The meat seemed not the highest quality I've had, each piece had too much tough inedible fat on it that caused me to choke. I really enjoyed my tofu soup soonbudu I asked for extra spicy and taste was perfect if ur feeling under the weather. It came with beef but it was such tiny pieces I hardly noticed. The ambiance is okay it wasn't the most comfortable but they had a lot of open seating and were dog friendly. The inside looks like an old school Japanese restaurant. This is one of our go-to restaurants, especially in winter when their hot and hearty food den even more satisfying. We typically get the combo specials, with bulgogi and one of their four delicious stews. We prefer the Kimchi Stew - as it is piping hot, a little spicy, and has great hunks of tofu and pork. The banchan is a great addition too - it's always a culinary treat to get to try all of the small plates too. The restaurant was nearly completely full on a Saturday evening, which is nice to see in downtown Santa Rosa. We ordered two 2-item combo sets: an order of beef bulgogi, soondubu soup, spicy BBQ chicken, and japje. The bulgogi was perfectly cooked, but a little sweet for my taste. The BBQ chicken was nicely seasoned, but a little dry. The soondubu soup and japje were perfectly fine. However, there was no lettuce or saamjang provided, and -- this is strange -- we were told the banchan were "samples", and we would be charged for additional banchan. The banchan portions provided were very small, and, honestly, a little disappointing. The kimchi was bland and salty at the same time, the mac salad had zero flavor and was undercooked, and the japje banchan was more flavorful than the large portion we ordered. For over $100, there's no lettuce, saamjang, or additional banchan?! Since this is the only Korean BBQ in town, I would expect them to excel. This place used to be a bit confusing for me when I first started coming here, as they would always ask if I wanted to eat sushi OR kbbq (to which I would reply, both, obviously lol). According to the staff, due to COVID and low staffing issues, HanBul combined entities with Haku Sushi (they were merely sister restaurants prior). I think that was a great idea, as it allows you to get the best of both worlds of KBBQ and sushi in one restaurant. They also offer beer, wine, and sake. The interior of this restaurant has a cozy ambiance, characterized by soft, ambient lighting. It creates a minimalist yet inviting atmosphere, reminiscent of a quaint corner in Japan. Being accustomed to all-you-can-eat (AYCE) Korean BBQ establishments for so many years, this place is a little pricey for what you get. For the same price or less as a meal here, you can get AYCE at many other KBBQ spots. I also noticed that when two people order a KBBQ combo set (which should both come with side dishes) only one banchan set has come out, and if more sides are requested, there is an additional charge. That doesn't make sense to me. I will say that the flavors are consistent and we do leave feeling satisfied. The sushi is very good (highly recommend the Love Boat which comes out lit on fire). I also appreciate that they are open til midnight every night. Our go-to order is typically the 2 item combo set with either spicy pork bulgogi, beef bulgogi, kalbi, japchae, or doenjang stew. Spicy pork bulgogi is a lot more flavorful than the beef. Kalbi and Japchae are always on point. The beef bibimpap is also worth trying. We found HanBul while looking for dinner in the santa rosa area. Finding the restaurant was a bit confusing, but you enter through the sushi restaurant next door. It's unclear to see on maps or even by the main signage, but it's 2 restaurants together. Took us a few minutes to figure this out. You can order from both menus, but we opted to get the korean food. We got spicy bulgogi and kalbi. We were given banchan as part of the meal (as expected!). The good was pretty good in my opinion, but i found the portions to be a bit smaller for how much you pay for. Location-wise, we also went later in the evening. There was a fair amount of parking, but there was a handful of houseless folks in the area, which was a bit rough given how long we walked back and forth to actually find the place. Woaaahhhh, Hanbul was so lovely, we had a great time here! I came for the Korean food and my friend came for the sushi menu. I can't recommend the spicy pork bulgogi enough! Don't let the 'spicy' intimidate you if your spice tolerance is low--it's actually pretty mild : ) The banchan we received were great, yet somewhat different in taste to the sides you'd find in Korea. Perhaps a bit more on the salty side? On that note, the doenjang jjigae was...well...it tasted a little like Campbell's Chicken Noodle soup. No hate to Campbell's whatsoever (as it's delicious) but not what we were quite expecting (it didn't feel like they used real doenjang paste). However, that didn't come close to tainting our experience here, as the other dishes/banchan really shined--you can tell the owners/chefs want to provide the best/most authentic Korean dining experience for their guests. It was comforting to see them offer original flavored soju (like 처음처럼) and some different Korean beer brands (Terra and Kloud). We mixed beer and soju in the classic 소맥 fashion : ) Really fun!
