A group of us stopped by here on an evening while attending Redemption at the nearby Britannia Hotel, and while we didn't have a terrible evening here on the whole, my personal experience was quite awful. For starters, the staff don't have a great command of English, and so to our surprise there was initially some confusion as to whether or not we could actually eat here.

The décor is very impressive. Han Dynasty has a modern, clean and spacious feel to it, made all the more interesting by the wafts of steam from other people's meals as they are heated on hotplates embedded in each table. Unfortunately I had quite a long time in which to appreciate this décor, because not only were our dishes brought out bit-by-bit (so that one of our party had nearly finished by the time three dishes had been set out), but we had to remind the staff about my missing order some twenty minutes later.
The menu, like the restaurant, has a slick design with nice photographs, but it is predominantly written in Chinese. English speakers have only a name, price and icons denoting spiciness with which to judge each dish, and this is another area in which my experience fell down. I cannot eat spicy dishes, so I opted for the beef noodles. Given that half the dishes either explicitly featured chilli in the name or had an icon beside them denoting the ferocity of their flavour, I had no reason to believe this would be a problem, but when my dish arrived at long last, I found it utterly inedible.
To their credit, the sweet and sour chicken dish was delicious crispy, with a really appetising flavour and Han Dynasty serves excellent rice. Their service was atrocious however, and we never received the tap water we'd ordered to go with the meals. The restaurant is clearly very popular with the local Asian community ours was the only Caucasian party in the entire restaurant but there is no way I'd recommend this establishment. I had a uniquely miserable time there despite some stand-out cuisine. read more
