One of the nicest Hamptons we've ever stayed at! The staff is so friendly and welcoming. My son loved the pool. It really was beautiful. There were two hot tubs, one inside and one outside, a nice comfortable pool, and a splash pad with jets of water coming out of the ground. They also had pool noodles available, which was perfect for my son, who is still learning to swim. I can't say enough nice things about that area! The bed was comfortable and the room was very clean. It was quiet and we got a great night of sleep. Breakfast was good- a good amount of options. Give my son sausage and eggs and he is happy. I was surprised that he didn't really finish the waffle, but there were two different kinds of batter. I particularly liked the apple cinnamon. Coffee is always good at the Hampton and it's available in the lobby all day. I also had a tea in the evening, which I appreciated, as well. Great experience. If we find ourselves in Wheeling again, this Hampton will be exactly where we go.

This is a five star hotel! The staff go above and beyond expectations. Always clean and comfortable and the hot tub (inside and outside) never disappoint! We visit DC often and have made the decision to not drive it straight through so we can stay here each trip because we enjoy the pool area and location, the shuttle is such a nice bonus! Again exceptional customer service with not one but THREE shuttles. Great dining suggestions all accessible by shuttle. Stay!! I promise you won't be disappointed!

This is the nicest Hampton Inn I've ever seen. The fact that there are some reviews that aren't five stars is interesting to me. The food was amazing. The pool was amazing. The rooms were spacious. The staff was friendly. The pool even had a splash pad, steam rooms, waterfalls and two hot tubs.

The key part was a room with 3 beds for our family and decently clean. This ticked those boxes. We got a large room with table and 3 beds (with the sofa). The sofa bed was a trundle bed, not fold out, which was odd, but ended up being maybe a bit easier. The whole room seemed more run down than you might expect for the price ($175/night with taxes), but it wasn't actively dirty anywhere and the staff was all friendly. The room had a decent view of mountains and trees changing colors and the view was better from other places including the parking lot. The room had hot breakfast along with continental staples of bananas, toast, bagels, and things. The hot things were mediocre eggs and paper-thin bacon, which was at least something that wasn't pure carbs. There was no waffle iron even thought that's become a bit of a staple.

The front desk agent didn't set up my key properly so after a long day of driving, I attempted to enter my room only to realize the key didn't work. I had to go back to the front desk to have it resolved and didn't even receive an apology. When I finally got into the room, it was super dated with dirty mirrors and sticky walls. The shampoo dispenser was empty and the shower tub combo had rust all over. The A/C was so dusty and the windows have never been cleaned. I barely slept in the dingy bed with lumpy pillows, but woke up with the worst allergies. I really wish we could've driven just an hour further into Pittsburgh instead of this crapshoot.

I found Bonnie Dwaine through Yelp, and I am so glad that we chose to stay here! From the moment we arrived, the house was perfect for our stay. Our room was on the third floor, and was renovated with a king sized bed. The bed was extremely comfy, the space was large, and we had our own bathroom as well. We chose this space for the king bed, but although it was very nice it was missing the vintage/historic feel of the other rooms located on the second floor. This room was HUGE, and would be great for a family. If we stay again, I would love to spend time in one of the other rooms, they were all so beautiful and historic. Bonnie was a fantastic host. She was so kind, friendly, and extremely thoughtful. She had a lovely home, and took great pride in making her guests feel welcome and comfortable. The breakfast that was served was fantastic, and she even made us breakfast for the morning that we slept in, and had it sitting out for us with a note when we were finally able to make it downstairs to the dining room. 5 stars for the bed and breakfast, 5 stars for friendly Bonnie, and 5 stars for the location! Amazing Mexican restaurant nearby, and the Moundsville museum is free to guests - located minutes from B&B.

We were assigned a room in chateau 2, room 2. Upon arriving in our room we were greeted with not only an overwhelming smell of smoke but also a musty unclean smell. The room was dank, the carpet was stained, the head of the bed was pushed up against some sort of cabinet on the wall. The light fixture in the bathroom had a bulb burnt out. There was a sofa that had seen significantly better days. There was also a cheap beat up box fan in the room. I'm not sure if perhaps they were trying to air it out at some point. To be completely transparent it was one of the worst rooms I've ever experienced in all my travels. It was gross. I didn't think to take photos I wish I had thought to but both my husband and I were aghast they would even offer such a room to anyone. We made our way back to the desk and apologetically asked for a better room in the lodge after explaining our concerns. (Though, we had no reason to apologize for being assigned such a poor room.) I don't want to be an ungrateful or entitled hotel guest. I know working in the service industry can be unbelievably trying at times. With all of the rooms at Oglebay Park Resort, there is no possible way Mary Ann could have known the state of that room. Mary Ann was so kind and understanding. She was able to adjust our room for us and issued us a card to receive complimentary breakfast the next morning. To be completely transparent, we have stayed at Oglebay in the past and were never so disappointed as we were this aspect of this visit. My husband has been visiting there since he was a child for yearly family vacations. We have been considering making our yearly family reunion with our 7 grown children and their families. It is my hope that Oglebay Park will refrain from using any room in such poor condition in the future. It is also my hope they will give Mary Ann a commendation for her excellent customer service.

I have been going to Oglebay since I was very little, and still continue to visit due to my grandparents living there... but I will say the kids Park absolutely needs renovated. There are so many trip hazards and the entire park is very old and has outdated play equipment. I highly suggest they take some of the funds that they receive for Oglebay and put it into making a new park for the kids. The paddle boats and all the new updated activities are great, but for kids to play at the park, safely, that should be the next focus. As you can see in my photos, every season is gorgeous, and the walking trails throughout are really nice for exercise. There's a restaurant now located on the grounds, I would say it's a little overpriced, but the food is good. I've stayed in the room several times over the years, and some of them are old and outdated, and some of them are really nice and new. I appreciate both. No matter what, they always keep the hotel portion clean. I would say the hot tub seems to have some issues here and there, that pool and hot tub have been there since before I can remember. There's new restaurants inside of the lodge as well, and they also have ravenous reviews. Christmas time is always beautiful, and the beautiful bloom of the flowers during spring is quite a sight to see. Apparently, the zoo will now have lions and beekeeper, I'm excited to take my baby to visit this spring! If you're thinking about visiting, do not hesitate you will enjoy it as much as my family I have for many decades.

If you have young children in town, Schenk Lake is a nice spot for a short boat ride or to try fishing! Originally a private country estate of 750 acres purchased in 1901 by Earl W. Oglebay, he donated the land to the City of Wheeling in 1928 to create a public park and education center. The Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) helped to build out the trails in the 1930s. Overall, it may be worth a stop here if you have young kids. However, I found the park to be kind of "meh" due to a lack of scenic views. At the end of the day, it's just a nice public park.

My family and I (including our 12 year old and 9 month old) stayed at this location last night. Around midnight, my 12 year old woke up scared, saying that an ant was crawling on her in the bed. I got up to check, and noticed a very small bug, the shape of an apple seed. I killed it, looked around for more but didn't see any, then told my child to go back to sleep. Early the next morning, my partner who was sleeping in the other bed jumped up because she felt something crawling on her face. She knocked it off and looked on the sheet to find a BIG bug, the same shape as the little one we saw in the other bed hours earlier. I looked up the description online and sure enough it was a bedbug. When we notified the front desk the were unapologetic, and told me, "if you want to leave, you can leave". They said they wouldn't charge us for the nights stay but we would have to wait two days for the credit. I asked to speak to a Mgr and was told because it was a Saturday, there were none available. After I insisted to speak to a Mgr, the person at the front desk called the assistant Mgr at home. The assistant Mgr. was even less helpful. When I asked how Hawthorn planned to compensate my family who now was 6 hours from home with nowhere to stay, the Mgr said the incident was not their fault and sarcastically asked if we would like to stay another night in their hotel. Needless to say, my family and I had to leave, find a new hotel and are still waiting for the $228 hold to be removed from our credit card. DO NOT STAY HERE!!!

Unfortunately I did not have that good experience at this Marriott. The hotel was very clean and very quiet - very much appreciated. My issue is with the billing. I used a lot of Marriott points for the stay and there should have been no charge. I got a charge of over $100 on my card a few days later. I contacted the hotel and was told the charge was in error and would be removed - the hotel said then needed to contact Marriott corporate (BonVoy I assume) to have them resend the certificate for the award points. I waited one week and the charge had not been removed. I called back around 3 pm on a Monday and they said there was no one in the office. I then called Marriott BonVoy and was told by them that the hotel directly issues the refund - Marriott BonVoy can't issue it. I wrote a review on the Marriott website as detailed above and then the manager emailed my saying they need to contact Marriott BonVoy for the certificate. The same exact thing they said a week ago. Very dissapointed that a Marriott Platinum member with Marriott has to be bounced back and forth between the hotel and Marriott BonVoy to get back money that should not have been charged. Hopefully this will be resolved at some point.
