Be aware!! Our recent stay at the Hampton Inn in St. Joseph, Missouri was unfortunately disappointing and far from what we expected from a Hilton property. When we first checked in, we immediately noticed several issues with our room. Half of the electrical outlets and lights on one side of the room were not working, and the phone was completely dead. We went downstairs to address the situation, and after about an hour of back-and-forth discussions with the front desk staff, we were still unable to resolve the problem. It was already late, and after a long day of traveling, my boyfriend and I were simply too exhausted to keep going back and forth, so we decided to stay in the room as it was. We continued to stay in our room. It was eventually fixed. They said the panels Come off all the time... super unsafe and hazard. Unfortunately, the condition of the room left a lot to be desired. The carpet was heavily stained and looked like it hadn't been cleaned in a very long time. Dust was visible on surfaces, the furniture didn't match, and overall, the room felt dirty and outdated. We were only provided one blanket, and while there was an extra one in the closet, it was so old and grimy that it looked like it hadn't been touched in decades. There were some Cracks in the walls and water leaks that were visibile. Our bathroom tub was stained and the paint or plastic was chipping off. We were told that the last renovation was about 10 years ago, but based on the condition of the room, it looked much older--more like 20 or 30 years since any real update. The hotel's condition really shows its age and is in desperate need of upgrades and deep cleaning. We also noticed a strong odor of marijuana or cigarette smoke in the hallway near our non-smoking room, which made the environment uncomfortable. The hotel lobby also had a lingering smell of cigarettes upon entry. As for the staff, the night staff were decent and tried to help, but the day staff made us feel unwelcome and were not very approachable. Surprisingly, the lady who managed the breakfast area was the most pleasant and helpful person during our entire stay. she was friendly, informative, and seemed to genuinely care about guests. The hotel does not offer room service, dry cleaning, or laundry services, which is disappointing for a Hilton-owned property. One of the few positives was the breakfast. It was actually quite good, and there were different options each morning, which we appreciated. Another thing to note--the walls are extremely thin. You can hear people in the rooms next to, above, and below you. There also seemed to be some kind of electrical or plumbing issue, as the walls made strange noises occasionally. Overall, the location is convenient, but that's about the only major advantage. The property itself is old, needs major renovations, and does not reflect the usual Hampton Inn or Hilton standards. The breakfast was awful! The housekeeping couldn't even be bothered to put the bag into the trash can. The sink and the tub faucets leaked. The conditioner bottle was empty. The pool looked like the water was stagnant and only 2 of the jets in the whirlpool actually worked and the water was so low it barely covered your leg when you sat in it. The beds are hard as a rock too. This hotel does not stand up to the standard that Hampton used to hold! read more

Very run down and dilapidated. Could use major sprucing and renovating. Pool had lots of peeling paint around the rim. The hot tub was overflowing filled. The hot tub was too hot to enjoy. Typically my complaint is too cold. There were no thermometers, but hubby and I concur that it was nearing the 120 range. You could hear the hot tub trying to work, but no bubbles. The room is old and out dated. Breakfast... cold and terrible! I brought one child down about 7am. My second child slept in, I brought him down about 8:30. My husband and first child (wanting more food) went back down about 9:20am The worst was cold coffee. Like their pots did not work at all! All you hear all night long were sirens. Must be near a police or fire-station. Too loud to sleep comfortably. read more

We booked a room with a king bed and a sofa over a month ago and when we arrived, we didn't get what we paid for. Hotel was sold out so there was "nothing they could do". Seems to me what they should do is give customers what they paid for. UNSATISFACTORY. Won't stay with Hampton Inn again. read more

Was good as always. Comfortable bed and pillows. Quiet, comfortable, clean room. Staff was friendly and helpful.

I'd love to give more stars but just couldn't find a reason too. Check in was quick and easy. The lady at the front desk made sure we didn't need anything as we headed for the room. We had a king and a a pull out bed. My kiddo said the king was nice, but the pull out was one of the worst I've stayed on. In fact, I ended up folding it back up and just sleeping on the couch. The room was nice and cool, but there was hardly any water pressure in the shower, and we were only on the second floor. The pool was the major disappointment. First off, it wasn't very big. It was inside (the entire front desk area smelled like chlorine) and was super cold the entire week. Usually they may feel cold for a couple of minutes, but this stayed too cold to even try. The hot tub worked, so at least there was that. The front desk snack area never did have any sodas until we had checked out. The location was great. Lots of dining options. read more

We were very grateful to find this hotel after experiencing a terrible hotel that we checked out but did not stay at. This hotel was clean, and the staff were super helpful. The Continental breakfast was what you would expect at any average hotel. This was a good place to stay. read more

The worst Hampton Inn I've ever stayed at. At first, I just thought it was just an older building, which I'm okay with old, just not dilapidated. We were supposed to be in wheelchair accessible room (our grandson is wheelchair bound) I could barely fit his chair between the bed and luggage stand but thought hey it's an older building will make do. I Had to remove the legs from his wheelchair and drag his feet on the carpet in order to fit into the bathroom, again thinking it's an older building we'll make it work. As the evening progresses, I notice more and more things, peeling wallpaper, broken tile, paint bubbling up on the door from water damage. The towel holder almost falling off the wall. But I'm like whatever I'm tired we'll get through one night. I gave him a shower (the only plus was the roll in shower) and put him to bed. The next morning, I go to take a shower and on further inspection I notice the shower seat has black mold on it. And to make for an even better start to the morning the coffee maker doesn't work and apparently hadn't in a little while because it still had water in it from whoever stayed in the room before us. read more

The people are very very nice but the hotel itself could use some sprucing up. Maybe shampoo the carpets? Thought it was odd that there's coffee in the room but no condiments and since there's zero food service, that must include coffee for guests. There was coffee drips by the coffee pot in my room that I was able to wipe away with my wipes I bring when I travel so that tells me the counters don't get wiped down between guests. Also, there's a Kleenex dispenser but no Kleenex. The beds still have skirts and I tripped over It. So little odd things like that, but overall, the room was clean. :) read more

We've stayed here a few times. No major issues. The hotel is clean. It's convenient for eating, coffee, and university. Free breakfast is good. I like oatmeal for breakfast and appreciate that they have real brown sugar to sprinkle of top. I checked in online and chose my own room. I skipped the counter upon arriving and my digital key didn't work so I had to go back to the front desk. I used the fitness center and one of the treadmills was not working. As a Diamond member, I like the special parking spot and late checkout. I've stayed in many Hilton's and this one did the job but fixing a few of the minor things would make it a much better customer experience. I appreciate Hilton being where I need to be. read more

Very very old and small hotel. When people say it's noisy they mean it. Windows don't seem to provide any sound barrier. Applebee's is about a thirty second walk across the street. Pool is closed. Not a single food snack available for purchase and no breakfast. This is one of the smallest HI hotels I e ever seen. We have stayed at ten Hampton inns the past ten nights across six states. This is the oldest but by far the most expensive we encountered. The Fairfield inn on another exit north of here looks way way nicer and sits back so the street noise has to be better there. read more

Great shower! Good breakfast. We stayed for two nights while visiting Missouri Star Quilting Company. It was a good choice for us. Rooms are a little small, but not bad. Lots of eating options nearby. Would not hesitate to stay again. read more

I have stayed at many a Hampton inn It's my hotel of choice. Not in St Joseph MO. This place is the second most FILTHY hotel I have ever stayed inn. Black mold in the shower. Bathroom floor covered in hair, sinks and mirrors covered in dust and fingerprints. The maid basically, hopefully, fingers crossed- changed the sheets and towels and called it a day. Every surface of everything was disgusting. No tip for that person. Went down to the lobby to purchase a snack. Not one item for sale. The cupboards were bare. I asked the desk clerk about snacks he said they sold out before Christmas. "That was 2 weeks ago, he assured me they are intending to restock in two to three weeks, he did offer to sell me a can of Coke for $3.00 dollars, what a dump in the middle of such a nice town read more

The good breakfast and friendly staff raised it to a two star from a one. We were disappointed with the unexpected closing of the pool. It was our first outing with our children due to covid in over a year. We attended the KC Chiefs training camp and the kids were excited to swim, so we chose this Hotel. Our room was not as clean as we expected. Was it sanitized?? There was hair in the tub/shower and sticking to the shower wall.....not our hair, but we discovered it upon first use. Disgusting. The beds seemed old....I slept very poorly on the uncomfortable mattresses. Very over priced for what we received. read more

One might think that Hampton Inn is on the bottom of the totem pole when you think of staying at a Hilton Hotel. This Hampton Inn is definitely at the top of the totem pole! The staff is awesome! They know us by name, granted they see us weekly... but they're super pleasant! The rooms are always clean and up to your expectations. No one really wants to go to St. Joe... but if you do, I highly suggest this Hampton Inn! The only thing that could be better here is if they had room service :P read more

LAST TRY! I stay at Hilton properties every week. I hold an elite membership with this brand. This property is the WORST property thus far in my travels. Apparently I'm not the only one, I walked out tonight and have my business to a competing brand, and wouldn't you know it I bump into another hiltonhonors elite member where for 20 minutes we shared stories about the Hampton Inn in St Joseph. Wow, what a mess that Manager has created at that property. Tonight, 7/22/2015 at 5pm, I walked into the lobby to check in where there was a man standing directly in front of the female desk agent. I stood off to the side when she asked me for my last name, I returned that I could wait for her to finish with the man standing there. She informed me he was just hanging out and visiting with her. Nether got the hint. She asked me for my name once again. I then informed her I was uncomfortable giving my person information with strangers standing around. Again she didn't get the hint. She tells me she won't need any person information just my last name. I told her my lady name is personal information in this setting. The guy got the hint and walked away. The agent was irritated and now treated me far different. I gave my name, asked if she got my request for a top floor, she tells me the top floor is sold out and that she wasn't going to kick someone out of their room so I could have my top floor. I didn't recall asking her to go that far. (Headshake) The parking lot was empty, may not mean anything, but I called earlier (had a previous issue on this at this hotel) where a gentleman told me to floor was open and he'd put me in. So at this point I was done. Gave her the keys back and said check me out in done with this hotel. This place isn't the cleanest, has rude employees, and the manager brings kids to work or allows other employees to bring kids to work. Oh ya. Read my previous reviews there's more. read more

I stayed here on my recent stay to the area and I have to say everyone in town was so nice - including the staff at the hotel. My room was as expected and exactly what I have come to expect from a Hampton. If I have any complaints it would be that the doors were not handicap friendly, but the staff often saw me struggling and opened the door for me. Also, I noted that I would be arriving early, but the room wasn't ready yet - but it only took 20 minutes or so to finish it up. Overall a very pleasant stay. read more

On Feb 20th, Saturday night my friend and I had just flown out to Missouri to pick up a puppy. We had an accident on the highway just south of your hotel. Our tow truck driver had driven us to a couple of hotels and they were full. Your night staff, was amazing, exceptional and helped to turn a really bad night around. I believe her name was Heather and I apologize I should have written it down. I do a lot of traveling and have stayed in many a hotel. Your rooms were clean, the buffet was fresh and every one of our staff members were friendly and courteous. I rarely get on the computer to write a compliment, but for your staff I give them 5 Stars. I'm also going to share this on Yelp. Thank you for training your staff correctly and for that good old fashion great service!! I'd stay here again in a heartbeat. WELL DONE HAMPTON INN! I wasn't expecting much from this place, it being an "inn" and not a "full fledged hotel," however, I could not have been more wrong. Their attention to quality and service is evidenced when you walk in to fresh fruit and complimentary water and coffee in the common area/entrance. After a long plane ride and drive, it was just what I needed! The room was spotless, large, nicely decorated and very comfortable with all of the amenities you'd expect from a fancy, higher priced hotel--even a few extra perks like toothbrush/paste, a larger than average sized "mini" fridge and a microwave! I was nicely surprised to find that although our window/room faced the busy intersection, the noise was minimal and didn't disturb us at all. The only thing I think could use improvement was the bed. The pillow top on the mattress felt lumpy and a little uncomfortable. The staff was very friendly. And the free breakfast in the am had some healthy options and was a great time saver and a nice extra. The hotel is in a good location, with easy access to several restaurants and a pharmacy within walking distance. I can recommend Le Peep for lunch! All in all a great deal for the price! read more

This is the first Hampton Inn I have ever been to that doesn't have microwave and refrigerators in every room. As a Diamond member I travel a lot and don't always want to eat out so I get food and drinks for my room. Was told by the front desk only King and a few queen rooms have them and corporate keeps pushing back on it. I find this odd because out of dozens upon dozens of other Hampton's I have been too this is a first. read more

Stay here frequently. I have never had any problems. Front desk staff are always friendly. Rooms are always clean and comfortable. Breakfast is typical and nothing to get excited about, but keeps you from starving. Workout room is small, but the equipment is functionable. The only single thing I would change are the pillows. I really dislike them. Way to fluffy. Also, a second blanket would be nice so I am not forced to use the comforter, which we all know is not washed after each guest. Other than that I love this hotel. read more

I'm presently staying here and I must say, we all slept terribly due to the horrible beds and noise of the roads. We are not light sleepers, either. Furthermore, the interior window has a huge crack and there's no in room safe. The hot tub is broken. I'm not sure what Corporate Hilton would think but I won't be staying here again and it's a shame given my children are attending college in St Joseph. Driving up to the hotel it looked old. The parking lot had NO lights at 10:30 pm. It was pretty dark and scary. But when we walked in, we received a warm welcome by the young lady behind the counter, check in was fast and easy. The hotel is very clean and in great condition. Our A/C made a weird squeaking noise every time it shut off, sounded like an old door closing. Our room was along the road, which had traffic on it all night, I'd suggest an interior room. I would have rated the hotel a 5 star had the parking lot been light up. read more

It's a regular Hampton but the staff make it great. The check in last night was very fast. I was told breakfast started at 6 this morning but I'm pretty sure almost everything was out by 5:30 (when I went down to get coffee) by the night auditor, very impressive. My experiences is usually someone comes in early and sets up. The day person for breakfast really has her work cut out for her since there are three bus loads of college basketball players. Ugh!!! Breakfast was good. This hotel is right off the highway so very easy to find and then you can see St Joseph, Mo at your leisure. No complaints. Good job people! Oh ya, you have to eat at Barbossas which is about a mile east of the hotel or the barbossa Castillo downtown. Great food! Not really Tex mex but very good and unique. read more

I stayed here for a week for work a few weeks ago..I've stayed at several hotels and the staff here are extremely nice! The common area is very clean and nice..Theres always fresh fruit, water, juice out in the common area..The receptionist made sure I had everything by calling me after an hour I checked into my room...The gym was a good size compared to the other hotels I've stayed in...They had weights! and 3 ellipticals. I would stay here if I am ever in town again. read more

I slept well but this isn't the best Hampton. The place needs a good vacuuming, the one working elevator was filthy but the room was decent. For some reason the bathroom door drug hard against the floor tile and was very hard to open and shut. It's been that way for quite awhile as pieces of the door bottom were flaking off. The breakfast area is small but functional- for some reason the housekeeping folks were cleaning the windows as guests were sitting eating breakfast. I'd stay again if I needed to be in St Joe. read more
