The only thing this place has going for it is the proximity to Clarkson. We pulled in around 6 p.m. - you know, as it's getting dark. Not a single light is on - in the front, on the side, nothing. We worried that they'd closed or were having an electrical issue. We entered through the spooky side door. My husband, stepson and I walked up to the front desk and the young man behind the desk said "What's the last name, sir?" I balked. Come on, this is 2023! I thought about letting my husband say HIS last name and letting the young man search, and search, to no avail. Because I made the reservation under MY last name... and that's pretty d@mn sexist of the young man to only address the man! A much better greeting could have been "hi folks... what's the last name on the reservation?" The room was just awful. Peeling wallpaper, dated from at least the 80s. Large mauve and tan paisley print... supposed to look like it's classic from the turn of the century, but it just looked old. Neglected. The carpet made you want to keep your shoes on. They replaced all of the light-bulbs with energy efficient ones that were blindingly white-blue in color, allowing us to possibly perform surgery on the out-dated table in the room. Thankfully the duvet and the sheets were crisp, white and clean. That's what got this place the one star. The bathtub had mildew on many of the tiles, and the tub wouldn't drain so I was standing in 6" of my husband's used water. (See pic below.) The towels were nappy and pilly... all unmatched colors and sizes. The coffee was the only thing at the breakfast buffet that interested us, so we grabbed a few cups -- and it was undrinkable. If you're visiting Clarkson for Family Weekend, you may still be able to re-book elsewhere! Do not stay here! P.S. My stepson says the Hawaiian takeout place across the street is very good.

The Inn is set back from US 11 so it is quieter and is well lit. One floor and parking lot is directly in front of the Inn. Each room door opens directly to the parking lot which makes bringing luggage to your room very easy. I parked directly in front of my room nd the car was about 8 feet from the door to the room. The water pressure is decent, there was a window air conditioner (can get very loud) with a remote and the flat screen TV had about 135 channels (some duplicates). There was a fridge in the room that didn't seem to get too cold as I had a bottle of water in it overnight that didn't feel very cold in the morning. The amenities are what you would expect with free WiFi (decent speed and connection) and soaps and a shampoo provided. The bed was satisfactory and the room was acceptably clean. The Potsdam Inn is older and could definately use some upgrading but for the price it works for a place to sleep. The breakfast was coffee or tea, bananas and clementines, packaged instant oatmeal, pre-packaged muffins and pastries. I was hoping for more fresh breakfast foods or some type of protein. The lighting in the room is ample and the windows cn be a pain to open and close. There was a window in the front facing the parking lot and street, a window in the bathroom and a window next to the air conditioner that took some manipulating to get closed and locked. Woods surround the Inn on the sides and back. There is a list of TV channels and nearby restaurants provided in each room. Nearby there is a Wal-Mart and a short drive brings you to many restaurants and small shops. I would stay here again knowing what to expect. The breakfast leaves something to desire and the rooms are outdated but for the price you get a pretty clean, quiet (besides the air conditioner) and comfortable room with a friendly staff.

She found that the towels were dirty with embedded little black hairs. And I pulled back the top of the blankets and the sheets were dirty. The pillows were stained. The air conditioner did not work and it looks like black mold in the vents. The refrigerator was leaking water, so it was not cold to keep our leftovers in. But that really didn't matter after seeing the sheets and the dirty towels. We immediately packed up and left we did not stay the night. We immediately got in our car lock the door and left. After we checked into another hotel down the road that was clean I called the manager and he refused to give me back my money and was very rude. We did not stay there. I would not recommend this motel to anyone. Considering the fact that we will be going there for the next four years while my daughter attends college, he had no interest in trying to help me. I think due to the holiday weekend lots of rooms were booked and we ended up having to get a two queen room as that was all that they had available. Bed is comfy enough but neither my wife or I really enjoy the pillows they have. The shower/tub and bathroom in general is nice enough. Their housekeeping is offered every other day so you won't get it unless you are staying longer. They do offer complimentary breakfast that seemed very typical but appreciate it being free compared to most hotels charging you. A good option for the area for a place to stay. By no means my favorite hotel but minimal complaints overall. I would stay again, but may bring my own pillow.
