Stopped here en route to Kansas and after 10 hours of driving we called this halfway and got a room. I am a long time Hampton Inn guest, Hilton Honors member etc. so I know the lay of the land when it comes to Hampton Inns and what is expected. Upon checkin I wasn't given my standard Honors complimentary items like water etc, which was troubling but oh well. My room was pretty standard, though the layout was kind of odd. The bed was over in a corner and the room was almost flipped Bathroom was a little older in terms of things but at the very least the room was clean. As for the breakfast, they served small omelettes (my favorite) and sausage coins. Once again only being there one night I couldn't really run around, but the good news is this is located right near various food places- just don't expect Uber (there isn't one)

The check-in was amazing. Very fast, easy, and professional. She asked if I was a Hilton honors member and I said yes along with being a AAA member as well. The price for the non-smoking room was $30 dollars higher but I paid the higher price for being a non-smoker in the Mid-West. I have always been scared to stay in Hampton Inn because of a prior experience years ago, but this location has changed my mind. The was clean, the bathroom was nice, shower was clean no stains in the walk-in shower, the king bed was nice in comfortable, and the room was very clean. I'm a picky person but this very nice. The complementary breakfast was ok the standard bee morning items. I was in room 427

This location was Extra nice. Very well kept and clean. Rooms were spacious and had all the extras. Beds were very comfortable. Hotel staff was very kind and helpful. Arrived around 9pm and after settling in realized we forgot toothpaste. The front desk happily provided us with a travel size one. This morning upon checkout we were given breakfast bags to take with us for the road(bottle water with a flavor mix, apple, mini coffee cake and cereal bar) were in each bag

My choice of abodes when I'm in town because it truly stands out from the others. Most of the other chains are typical to their formula models but this one is not. Perhaps it's because the facility is newer than the others (built in 2012) and they have 4 floors, a swimming pool, a great fitness center that is actually a fitness center, and a jacuzzi. There is also a level of elegance here that's not found in the others. The breakfast room, for example, has a two floor ceiling and an elevated island bar of marble in the center. It made me decide to have breakfast here instead of going out! Then there are countless other "little things" like elevators that are fast & silent as well as a huge parking lot with extra room for car doors to open and on and on. I like it a lot and you will too!

I sense this is a pet friendly establishment, since I itched the entire time. Where is my black light when I needed it????

A very nice and clean Hampton Inn. They even had cookies and popcorn in the lobby. Staff were friendly.

What an incredible room here at the Holiday Inn Express & Suites in Effingham. Our room was huge…read moreand beautiful. We had such a nice comfortable nice sleep. It was a really beautiful room. The front desk was great. Both people we dealt with were great in customer service and pleasant. This hotel had two problems. One was the maintenance workers. As we were getting on the elevator, they were speaking poorly of the guests in the hotel. I believe the comment was about a woman jumping in front of him in line for gravy on her plate. Probably a woman with children, as most of the women I saw had little children. We were trying to make their plates so we could also eat. These were two large gentle man who probably could have waited to eat! Both men didn't look like they showered or were well kept. They did have their maintenance uniforms on. As we were leaving, I was feeding the birds. (My offering to Illinois) and the maintenance man took out his phone to take pictures of me. I saw him and thought, this hotel needs my review. Our second interaction was with the house keeping. The pool was so overloaded with chlorine we literally couldn't swim in it. Our skin was tingling and the night before we opened a window to air it out a bit, before we realized we actually couldn't swim... so we enjoyed the sauna for a few minutes instead. This hotel has a sauna! Incredible! Thank you for that. About 2 minutes after I opened the window, this morning, the house keeper came in and shut the window. I walked back in and opened the window for the family that was going to be in there that morning. I told her the chlorine smell was so awful, she didn't want to have her little kids breathing that in. The house keeper she couldn't even smell the chlorine. Asked the maintence man if he could smell the chlorine, right in front of me. What a weird interaction to have with two people... but as I left the pool, my family said I wreaked of chlorine! All I did was walk in and opened the window. I am going to guess they are not testing the chlorine but actually just throwing it into the water. Really interested communication. We decided on 3 stars because the front desk, our huge room and the sauna were all fantastic! The maintenance people could use some customer service classes. I think talking about customers in the hallway in front of the elevator is probably something to work on... and taking pictures of customers outside your hotel, pretty shady too.

An older, dated Holiday Inn but very clean and excellent customer service…read more The front desk employee was very friendly and enthusiastic when I checked in at 9 pm. My room was nice and very clean. I ordered room service as soon as I got to my room and it was delivered quickly. The salad was excellent and the hummus and pita bread appetizer was very good as well. I appreciated that this hotel was quiet. One issue I have had with hotels in Effingham is that it is hard to sleep due to the noise from the trucks in the interstate. Nearly all the Effingham hotels are located near the crossroads of two major interstates: I-70 and I-57. Both interstates have very heavy truck traffic 24 hours a day, and most of the hotels I have stayed in here are not quiet, you can hear trucks rumbling by all night long. This Holiday Inn is quiet, maybe because it is older and better built? I don't know but it was much easier to get a good night's sleep here. I appreciated that all the hand sanitizers were operational and full of sanitizer. Many hotels I visit have neglected to refill their sanitizers.

Of course I had to do this during the time change, so sunset happened earlier than normal. The Holiday Inn chain has a standard and this location filled that standard. I was greeted by Ryan at the front desk and he was a perfect fit for the job. I made the reservation on my cellphone, and didn't know what I was in for, it turned out to be a treat. I had met Kenny, the locations manager, and he helped me in the same manner. Needless to say I was exhausted after the long drive and I had dinner within the lobby. I wasn't sure if I could make the longer drive and everyone here made me feel like family. Thank you all for the great visit at Effingham's better hotel location, I will be back again.

PROS: -We wanted an easy pitstop hotel for an overnight's stay on a long drive. This one is directly (I mean, closer than the gas station!) to the highway. -Speaking of, the "gas station" next to this place is an odd, but cool, Jack Flash. I've never heard of it (maybe it's local to the area???), but it has a fantastic liquor store and gift shop attached to the gas station. For grabbing something on your route, it's probably one of the better options I've seen. -Speaking of, when you're in town, there are a few fast food places, so you can easily grab something at night or in the morning and get right back on the road. Tiny town entirely filled with off-the-highway things. -Parking lot is right next to the hotel with tons of space. It's closer than the parking lot at my own apartment. -There's an elevator despite only having two floors. You don't have to worry about lugging stuff up stairs. -The bed is SUPREMELY comfortable. I'd say this is one of the best hotel best I've slept on in years. -While the place definitely feels like an old building, they've done a fantastic job keeping it up here. It does have that "classic, old hotel" smell, but it's not offensive (kinda soothing, really). The room is clean, they've updated the furniture, nothing looks super spotted or gross, bedside lamps have plug-ins in them, etc. Probably one of the better older hotel buildings I've been in, too. -AC did a great job overnight in the summer. It was a great icebox in here. CONS: -The shower floor is a bit slippery. Water pressure and heat are good, but just be careful getting into the first step of the shower. -Check-in was really weird, and it was by-far the longest check-in experience I've ever had. It took about 10 minutes while we were holding all of our stuff, and the woman didn't really talk to us. She picked up the phone, listened to the phone for a long time, didn't really say anything, and we kinda stared at the floor. At a certain point, near midnight in a city we were unfamiliar with and right off the highway, we were looking at our exits in case we were being stalled for someone to rob us - it was THAT awkward, quiet, and unnecessarily long.

It's also by a gas station, so it's got everything you need if you're passing through. The hotel is quiet, clean, and felt safe. They had soft beds, which was great. The water pressure in the bathroom was bad, but all things considered I'll take it. They had a nice breakfast spread with waffles, eggs, bacon, and packaged stuff if you're in a hurry. The staff was very friendly, too. We will absolutely come back next time we are heading through! Rating a 4 because of the water pressure and bc our AC was not working well. But otherwise was great!

There was a bath chair, a hose-sprayer, and more grab bars no matter where you needed them. There was also plenty of room to maneuver with my walker. Comfortable furniture and outstanding lighting on the bedstead. The door was right inside the main door, which made my back and knees really grateful. One thing that might bother others is that entry and lobby noise is apparent. Luckily, it didn't bother me, especially when it was explained that it makes it easy for the front desk to make sure the occupant able to get immediate help if necessary. The manager, Myriah went out of her way to make my move in and departure much easier (to the point of handling my luggage.) TJ, the night clerk, made sure I had anything I needed. The neighborhood is loaded with more restaurants than I could count. I had to go out to grab a drive-thru meal because most of the places closed too early for delivered meals by the time I was ready.
