They then refunded someone else accidentally , so after calling again after not receiving my refund they said they would fix it and refund ME, the card they wrongly took almost 400$ of .... Well 2 weeks have gone by I have left 4 messages with the manager, one on his voicemail and 3 at the front desk to call me back and figure this out ..... no call! Call again 4 times in a row and can't get an answer so use my husbands phone and suprise they answer and the manger tells me whatever excuse and they will send it today Well now I'm out late fees for bills I can't even pay because they have MY money tied up! This is the most ridiculous thing ever at this point.... They want me to wait til Monday (it's Thursday) to see if it goes through and then they will have to mail me a check if it doesn't! I'm beyond pissed at this point I just want my fucking money you wrongfully took ..... I will never stay at another holiday inn express again and if you don't have an extra 400 to be tied up for 5 going on 6 weeks you shouldn't either!

What an incredible room here at the Holiday Inn Express & Suites in Effingham. Our room was huge…read moreand beautiful. We had such a nice comfortable nice sleep. It was a really beautiful room. The front desk was great. Both people we dealt with were great in customer service and pleasant. This hotel had two problems. One was the maintenance workers. As we were getting on the elevator, they were speaking poorly of the guests in the hotel. I believe the comment was about a woman jumping in front of him in line for gravy on her plate. Probably a woman with children, as most of the women I saw had little children. We were trying to make their plates so we could also eat. These were two large gentle man who probably could have waited to eat! Both men didn't look like they showered or were well kept. They did have their maintenance uniforms on. As we were leaving, I was feeding the birds. (My offering to Illinois) and the maintenance man took out his phone to take pictures of me. I saw him and thought, this hotel needs my review. Our second interaction was with the house keeping. The pool was so overloaded with chlorine we literally couldn't swim in it. Our skin was tingling and the night before we opened a window to air it out a bit, before we realized we actually couldn't swim... so we enjoyed the sauna for a few minutes instead. This hotel has a sauna! Incredible! Thank you for that. About 2 minutes after I opened the window, this morning, the house keeper came in and shut the window. I walked back in and opened the window for the family that was going to be in there that morning. I told her the chlorine smell was so awful, she didn't want to have her little kids breathing that in. The house keeper she couldn't even smell the chlorine. Asked the maintence man if he could smell the chlorine, right in front of me. What a weird interaction to have with two people... but as I left the pool, my family said I wreaked of chlorine! All I did was walk in and opened the window. I am going to guess they are not testing the chlorine but actually just throwing it into the water. Really interested communication. We decided on 3 stars because the front desk, our huge room and the sauna were all fantastic! The maintenance people could use some customer service classes. I think talking about customers in the hallway in front of the elevator is probably something to work on... and taking pictures of customers outside your hotel, pretty shady too.

An older, dated Holiday Inn but very clean and excellent customer service…read more The front desk employee was very friendly and enthusiastic when I checked in at 9 pm. My room was nice and very clean. I ordered room service as soon as I got to my room and it was delivered quickly. The salad was excellent and the hummus and pita bread appetizer was very good as well. I appreciated that this hotel was quiet. One issue I have had with hotels in Effingham is that it is hard to sleep due to the noise from the trucks in the interstate. Nearly all the Effingham hotels are located near the crossroads of two major interstates: I-70 and I-57. Both interstates have very heavy truck traffic 24 hours a day, and most of the hotels I have stayed in here are not quiet, you can hear trucks rumbling by all night long. This Holiday Inn is quiet, maybe because it is older and better built? I don't know but it was much easier to get a good night's sleep here. I appreciated that all the hand sanitizers were operational and full of sanitizer. Many hotels I visit have neglected to refill their sanitizers.

Of course I had to do this during the time change, so sunset happened earlier than normal. The Holiday Inn chain has a standard and this location filled that standard. I was greeted by Ryan at the front desk and he was a perfect fit for the job. I made the reservation on my cellphone, and didn't know what I was in for, it turned out to be a treat. I had met Kenny, the locations manager, and he helped me in the same manner. Needless to say I was exhausted after the long drive and I had dinner within the lobby. I wasn't sure if I could make the longer drive and everyone here made me feel like family. Thank you all for the great visit at Effingham's better hotel location, I will be back again.

An amazing pitstop hotel when you're driving. It's a bit older, but it's clean, has the amenities…read moreyou want, and even has enough "stuff" in the tiny highway city itself to be really helpful. PROS: -We wanted an easy pitstop hotel for an overnight's stay on a long drive. This one is directly (I mean, closer than the gas station!) to the highway. -Speaking of, the "gas station" next to this place is an odd, but cool, Jack Flash. I've never heard of it (maybe it's local to the area???), but it has a fantastic liquor store and gift shop attached to the gas station. For grabbing something on your route, it's probably one of the better options I've seen. -Speaking of, when you're in town, there are a few fast food places, so you can easily grab something at night or in the morning and get right back on the road. Tiny town entirely filled with off-the-highway things. -Parking lot is right next to the hotel with tons of space. It's closer than the parking lot at my own apartment. -There's an elevator despite only having two floors. You don't have to worry about lugging stuff up stairs. -The bed is SUPREMELY comfortable. I'd say this is one of the best hotel best I've slept on in years. -While the place definitely feels like an old building, they've done a fantastic job keeping it up here. It does have that "classic, old hotel" smell, but it's not offensive (kinda soothing, really). The room is clean, they've updated the furniture, nothing looks super spotted or gross, bedside lamps have plug-ins in them, etc. Probably one of the better older hotel buildings I've been in, too. -AC did a great job overnight in the summer. It was a great icebox in here. CONS: -The shower floor is a bit slippery. Water pressure and heat are good, but just be careful getting into the first step of the shower. -Check-in was really weird, and it was by-far the longest check-in experience I've ever had. It took about 10 minutes while we were holding all of our stuff, and the woman didn't really talk to us. She picked up the phone, listened to the phone for a long time, didn't really say anything, and we kinda stared at the floor. At a certain point, near midnight in a city we were unfamiliar with and right off the highway, we were looking at our exits in case we were being stalled for someone to rob us - it was THAT awkward, quiet, and unnecessarily long.

I can't say one bad thing about this hotel. Clean. Smells good. Easy check-in. Confusing mattress…read more Clean bathroom. Just a good place.
