Beautifully renovated boardwalk and quite clean-- that is if you're talking about any plastic cups or food scraps laying on the sand or walkway, which there hardly isn't. However, this beach is definitely not free of "low class" trash. Almost always will you be walking along the shoreline and you smell pot. Look over and there you go! -- potheads smoking their stuff on the beach as well as loud, annoying kids blasting awful "music" from of their jacked up vehicles. Can't even bring my grandchildren here. Probably not the most family oriented beach around. Come early... around 8 AM and leave by 1 PM if you don't want to deal with the above. **Stay away on Friday and Saturday nights. **Police need to monitor this beach more often. read more

This beach is one of the dirtiest I've ever been on. Certainly one of the worst in the Northeast. It'd be more fitting to call it an ash tray than a beach because everyone on this beach seems to smoke and no one is taking their butts out with them. This isn't very good for children unfortunately. read more

I've been coming here with my family for 5 straight summers now. The Boardwalk is usually very busy and even with bad weather beach is usually packed. There's Dozens of business on boardwalk; mostly for kids . beach has 3 arcades, 4 ice cream stores, 3 candy shops and a gated playground takes a big chunk of real state right in the middle of the beach, making this place very much child oriented. The weed smell Girl, if you don't like it you could stay home. Weed is legal in NH, Maine, Ma, Quebec and Vermont and soon enough the ignorant opinions of ignorant people like you won't matter anymore. Why don't you drive up to the north shore, where all the spoiled rich MA kids go and see if it smells up there. They been smoking weed illegally in their semi private beaches up north for decades, difference is that working class people that can't afford a private segregated beach follow the law. And now the law is on recreational side. The only trash in the beach honey is you and your family and it's because of entitled people like you that I might be changing my vacation spot. Half beach front hotels are runed down now and condos are been built by the hand full every year. There used to be one advertising color tv with hot tubs and stuff lmao. It's gone. I just found it so nostalgic but rich people have a plan to replace every hotel with a condo, and that is just sick. Kentville by the ocean is gone and the Colonial motel had it's electricity shut off last year. Owner died so they gonna auction the property off now. Probably another condo coming.. Some of those places were a century old. Well worth preserving it's history and keeping it maintained. But they getting torn down one by one. Last year they opened a stupid jewlery store where used to be a game store. They closed down a 50 year old mcdonalds, first of its kind on the whole US east coast, because entitled tourist kept calling it an eye sore. We'll have fun spending $30 for breakfast now. I work hard to take my vacation here and people that never held a real job in their lives are trying to change a historic 100+ year old strip. And that I cannot stand. Either ways, parking is limited but it's all over the place, the whole ocean boulevard and ashworth Ave are packed with parking so don't just buy the first one you are, it might be a ripoff. All day parking could cost you between 5 and 50, depending of the day you're here. Cops are getting more laid back with the fireworks, which is good a sign, so people that don't happen to OWN property can also enjoy it, since the way fireworks laws were written in NH totally segregates the poor. So hopefully in the future people will be able to launch their fireworks from the beach like its done all around the world, unless Mrs entitlement has something to say about that too. If in Seabrook stay at the Hampton fall inn or Holiday inn. All you need is there, Walmart, market basket, Wendy's, mcd's , bk's, pizza but, kfc, taco Bell, 99 restaurant, firework stores, there's even a dick's. By the beach my favorites would be mcguirks, Atlantic sands (best parking), Moulton and sea Hillcrest inn. Ashworth Ave (backstreet from boardwalk) is packed with motels but those are less than average, 2 stars, so careful with your choices here. If you're entitled like half this people that reviewd the boardwalk you could stay at the ocean spray or go to ashworth hotel where they even have a valet for your rich ass and an indoor heated pool. For all your entitled needs. Only costs about $495 a night but I'm sure your husband's credit card will take care of it. If not happy the north shore has a beautiful brand new 4 bedroom house on the sand in front of the beach!! Runs for about a thousand a day but would be perfect to segregate your entitled self there and leave the boardwalk for the hardworking people that don't have that kind of money. So yeah the place is historic and beautiful. Well worth it even with all the stuff I just talked about. Plus I love new Hampshire. Live free or die read more

Tacky and ghetto...awful..people on the beach are so disrespectful..they should not allow people to turn up the volume so high on their radios they bring on the beach..several times we had to move because of that..awful beach experience..way too noisy. I bet it was once a nice place but has become too overrun with people doing whatever they want..shops are junky and over-priced like they want you to think that is the only place that sells clothes and whatnot so they are going to hike up the prices. A complete tourist trap..hotels are not worth the price..many are above noisy restaurants and your balcony is right below..don't know how it is even peaceful to sleep there at those places. The traffic adds 50% more noise..it is just a mess there! There are rules for the beach but the lifeguards do not enforce them..they are too much in love with themselves to notice or doing yoga or stretching exercises on their posts like they are on stage! The whole place is like a Disney theme park gone wild! People yelling and cursing for no apparent reason. I was very uncomfortable there and did not feel safe!! read more

Come on. If this place were any trashier you'd have to go to the town & get a permit to go there and you'd bring a truck bed full of garbage. This place is NASTY and it's only gotten worse. I was a local and worked at the beach for 5 summers and never understood why anyone who went there ever went back again. The best thing that could possibly happen to this beach is a large fire and total rebuild. It is overcrowded and dirty. There's a LOVELY view of the Seabrook nuke plant when you face away from the water...but relax - if/when it has an "accident" you will all perish because (1) you are right inside ground zero and (2) there are only 2 "main" roads in and out of the beach so don't bother getting in your car. Go get a Blink's Fry Doe and ride out the wave of destruction while you eat away your feelings of despair in your fringed & beaded airbrush t-shirt of a skinny lady in a bikini that you've stretched over your size 2XL body. And when you're out on the sand, keep an eye out for the tampon applicators that are embedded in the sand while you're extinguishing your cigarette & leaving that butt there. Stay classy, Hampton! There have been occasional gang issues at night at this beach for at least the last 25 years. Every beach south of Hampton has been run into the ground, so they just keep coming north. Save your pennies, pack a picnic lunch & drive further up the road - go to Wallis Sands, North Beach, Odiorne State Park or someplace that hasn't been infested by the lowest common denominator of humanity. Each of those beaches is more than worth the price of admission. read more

If you like a pile of trash left out on a hot summer day - this is your place. And by trash I mean actual trash (used diapers, water bottles, wrappers just dropped on the ground) as well as trashy people and businesses. I'm giving it 3 stars ONLY because the beach itself is very nice, and HUGE, and pretty cool. Word of Advice: The beach is best enjoyed off season. During summer the area is a traffic nightmare, and not even really that fun. Hectic and full of gross people fighting over parking spots, summer here is like living inside an episode of Jerry Springer. If you are 13-18 years old, it's probably awesome, and there are a lot of young people. BTW The season ending "seafood festival' is basically just an over hyped opportunity for the local businesses to shovel out one last plate of price gouged garbage. Skip it. Trust me. Best part - they renovated the facilities/stage a few years ago , the bathrooms are great. That is true. Amount of time needed to park, walk around, get the picture and leave: 17 minutes read more

This is one of the best beaches in Mass. I was able to go here again a few weeks ago. 1) It's enormous. Even when it's crowded, you're still going to find space on the beach. Most people sit as close to the water as possible, but even still there's tons of room behind them. 2) It's clean. There's no trash floating about. You can take a nice walk in the sand. 3) The waves are manageable. So, if you have kids, they can have fun body-surfing in the waves. 4) The water temperature can actually be bearable. Most beaches have ice-water. It can happen here as well, but in the middle of summer - it's awesomely refreshing. 5) Good restrooms. There's even a private "family restroom" which is most useful! 6) Street vendors / food / crummy stores. There's even an arcade. Very old-school road up against the beach with vendors selling terrible food, ugly neon shirts. Exactly what you want when you're on a beach in New England! Parking is of course, a nightmare, but if you get there early in the morning, it's not a problem. But overall - for the size and shape that it's in? It's a winner. read more

No. Just no. Why would anyone WANT to go here? It's a strip of overcrowded, overweight beach with NOTHING going for it that you can't find elsewhere. Nothing good on the street, nothing worth seeing on the beach. Crowded beyond explanation. Seriously, find anywhere and you'll do better. If you were thinking of going here, find another beach and be thankful you avoided here. read more

Sometimes I think that people take themselves waaay too seriously. If you can't have fun at Hampton Beach there's a good possibility that you may be one of the people I think this about. I love the beach and the boardwalk. I'm a big fan of boardwalks in general though. I'm a girl who needs a fix of beach-side video arcades, terry cloth, henna tattoos and mass quantities of junk food, every once in a while. Is it classy? Nope. Is there anything resembling upscale here? Nope. There is nowhere in sight that will satisfy your desires for fine dining or well-crafted cocktails. I recommend a steady diet of salt water taffy, so-so pizza and Dr. Pepper for the duration of your visit. The dense rows of shops are all tacky, and most seem to be peddling the exact same wares. The beach is crowded and it could be a sport to keep score of all of the inappropriately or horribly attired, except it would be way too easy. Everybody wins! (Or maybe everybody loses?!?) The ocean here has some of the best waves around, it's one of the few spots in New England where surfers congregate and have an actual shot at catching a wave. New Hampshire has made good by sinking some money into the grounds and the new bathroom facilities are clean enough for a place that sees so much action. The Hampton Beach Casino/Ballroom occasionally books day-trip worthy entertainment. If you park in any of the numerous $5.00 lots, two blocks from the beach, getting in and out of here isn't really problematic. Of course, if you want to cruise the strip with your top down more power to you - but you probably already know what you're getting into when you make that decision. I've never been here at nite, but I oh so-badly want to stay up late sometime and see what the nightlife has to offer. I can only imagine the cheap and easy, wondrously sleazy fun that is to be had once most of the happy kiddies are safely tucked away. Once the blankets and umbrellas and coolers and boogie boards are packed away and this place becomes a tawdry playground for the grown-ups. Can you seriously say that doesn't sound like whole lotta fun? read more

Beautiful beach that gets very busy in the summer. Expect to pay $20-$30 for all day parking at one of the many parking lots. Tip for parents with kids: park behind the Hampton beach casino ballroom off of F street. Walking up F to Ocean will get you out conveniently between the playground and bathrooms. Get here before noon and parking will be plentiful. However, if you want to park beachside on Ocean Ave you should arrive prior to 9am. read more

I want to love it here but it's soooo trashy every time we go, I can't believe how disgusting so many people are and leaving their trash on the beach. Gross, people, you need to take your trash with you and dispose of it correctly, not leave it on the beach to get into the ocean! read more

Hampton Beach is much more than just a Beach. It is a place to spend the day. From its interesting shops, to variety of eateries, to entertainment such as arcades, and hotels/bed and breakfasts right on the beach, Hampton is a true resort town. The wide open beach is beautiful any time of the year, but comes alive in the summertime. The water is kinda chilly but refreshing on a hot day. Waves are moderate size here, Big at times, and there is a nice sidewalk the entire length of the beach stretching for over four miles perfect for a bike ride or rollerblading session, or a jog/walk. Good place to walk the dog as well. Hampton Beach is accessed from route 1A , route 1 or route 95. TIP: To avoid the tolls. Take the Salisbury Exit toward Massachusetts and then go up 1A through Seabrook beach to Hampton. You can park at the parking meters and just come back and feed the meter again when you need to. Or if you're lucky enough you might get a free space. More parking is available down the north end of Hampton Beach. Though it is a bit further walk from the central business district and arcade area. Enjoy your day at Hampton Beach! Don't forge to bring plenty of sunscreen! ATMS are available along the main street in some of the businesses. read more

Oh, Hampton Beach! You are a place for children to run around and drink beers on the beach until they get arrested. You are the land of inappropriately short skirts and arcade games with a little lobster roll here or there. Mostly I understand what the tricks are all about. I have survived summers that ended badly on your beach or on your roads; your tolls have gone from 50cents to 75 since the last time I was here. My main objective is to not do anything slightly resembling an illegal act up at Hampton Beach, my every action is governed by this agenda. Have you ever had an altercation with a cop up there? The cops are oh-so-serious about what they do. So if you are riding motorcycles keep your visor down, or glasses on while the keys are in the ignition at the very least. How many other places are there that sell knickknacks, samurai swords, and fudge all on the same block?! Not to mention all kinds of restaurants and hotels, old fashion photos, and fried dough all over. Nowhere, that's where. I am horrified that there is a place in NH that gives you less time for your money than downtown Boston on a meter. A quarter only gives you ten minutes from 8am to midnight! Better to park in one of the lots behind the boulevard. This place is kind of mostly nasty. There are lots of reasons not to go, but the nightlife is pretty interesting - worth experiencing at least once. I think it's a better time when you are there with people who actually live in the area, they know where to go and when as well. read more

Hampton Beach is a really long stretch of sand with plenty of waves and really cold Altantic water. We went in mid-June and had to come out often to restore circulation to our toes. There is about 25-30 feet of wet sand with a few people walking and frolicking in the waves, another 10-15 ft of seaweedy sand, then another 50-60 feet of sand before the street. Most people are sunning themselves on the largest area of the beach. Cleanliness is not horrific for a free beach, but if you've been to one of the clean, paid beaches on the coast, you're in for a shock. My two very young kids had a blast, but I won't be returning because of the other people there. Many of the reviews mention how blue collar this place is, and I don't want my kids to get influenced by it. Lots of alcohol and cigarettes around. The boardwalk looks interesting, with everything from McDonald's to fried "doe" and an arcade, but we were scared to get out because of the tatooed, smoking clientele. There is a two-way street which loops around, with meter parking in between the two directions; a dollar gets you a whopping 40 minutes from 8AM-midnight, 7 days a week. It was crowded, and the traffic is pretty terrible, but we found a spot without too much trouble. read more

Hampton beach is near and dear to my heart as I frequented this beach plenty with my mom through adolescence, and it's certainly changed throughout the years! The restrooms/showers are much improved and are rather clean, equipped with tens of stalls. I don't recommend coming here for a relaxing time to read, although you could probably find a sweet spot toward the ends of the beach. However, this is the BEST BEACH to have some unadulterated fun in the water. Yes, you will eat sand after being pummeled by the huge waves, but it's just all so nostalgic to me and I don't mind suffering from a few battle wounds after a great day at the beach. You honestly will feel like a spoiled little kid again once you catch a huge wave. Tips: -Bring a cooler with actual home-packed sammies as vendors along the strip offer less than satisfactory meals. -Orange Leaf froyo is an awesome option to cool off after baking in the sun. -Do not fork over more than $20 for parking. read more

Sea breeze filled with frying grease, arcades from another era, miniature golf and fluorescent sweatshirts... steps away from a great, clean beach. Nothing at Hampton Beach is classy or upscale. The only word that comes to mind is "comfort" -- not egyptian-cotton-sheets-comfort -- just good old unpretentious wacky comfort. Wow they have actual bath houses now! No more wandering endlessly to find relief!! They were pretty clean for public restrooms and I saw outdoor showers. The boardwalk still has that carnival feel to it - which makes me nostalgic. Candy apples, fried dough, air brush artists, caricature artists, jewelry, crafts, ice cream and a million gift shops selling sunglasses, t shirts and hoodies. The old arcade in the center is still there and still has a lot of old games among the new additions. Skee Ball for everyone! Totally traded my tickets for candy!! And my personal favorite - the photo booths! They have some that look like they could date back to the 1960's (one strip of 4 black and white) all the way up to modern booths with backdrops/graphics/options!! So glad I stopped by on my way back from Maine!! The parking is crazy as always - if you can't find a street / metered spot the lot pricing ranged from $10 - $20 depending on proximity to the beach. I love this place - can't wait to come back and try the frigid ocean for an afternoon ! read more

this place is really fun for a day trip and has a lot to offer. the beach itself gets super overcrowded and dirty

Hampton Beach is not what it used to be. My family has been coming to Hampton for 20+ years, and we've seen the shops and boardwalk change significantly over time. What once was a decent pizza place, burned down and is now a parking lot. What once was a great arcade for the kids, burned down and is now a parking lot. Many hotels on the north end have become roach-ridden, and I've fled the beach early to avoid infestation on at least two occasions staying up there. Breakfast nooks and corner stores have gone from affordable buys with at least medium quality eats, always made fresh on a griddle, to microwaved everything. The quality of McDonald's with the price of a Michelin starred restaurant. I won't be all negative - if you're looking for a pure, clean beach experience, you'll find none better. The water is brisk, waves are perfect for boogie boarding, and the sand is clean and wide for plenty of visitors to load the beach with blankets and umbrellas. Traveling up and down the Atlantic coast, I've yet to find a beach I enjoy more than this one. The bottom line: Stay at a hotel somewhere far from the beach, get your food from a Hannaford or Shaw's supermarket, and avoid the boardwalk shops if you don't enjoy throwing money away. read more

I'm totally giving Hampton 5 stars for trash! I mean, I myself am trashy, but this place is awesomely trashy. I mean I grew up not far from here and we spent a lot of time at the beach when i was a kid. And people think revere beach is bad!? There is actually a lot to do and eat, and the beach is pretty big, but usually pretty crowded too. During the summer theres usually a lot of live music across from the ballroom and tons of arcades and fun things for the kids. I miss the good old days when you didn't see unwanted cooch hanging down because their short shorts are basically non existent. Hampton Beach has had a lot of investments over the past couple of years and it has improved the quality and vision of the entire "strip". Hampton is right up the road from Salisbury and feels much more alive. There is an outdoor entertainment area, a long boardwalk, and countless acrades, hotels, eateries, and parking lots up and down the main road. They have also added much needed restroom and washroom facilities. If you are lucky enough to find a parking spot on a metered spot, you have to pay hourly. I believe I paid $12 for 4 hours? Private garages seem to average between $15-$20 for the day. It is more expensive than Salisbury, but there is also much more to do and see here. This area is mobbed day in and day out, so get in super early if you wish to find a decent spot. The boulevard is also a traffic nightmare as one should expect during the summer season. The beach itself is okay. I like the sand but do notice that there seems to be more seaweed in the water than beaches to the south. The condition seems to slowly deteriorate the more north you head up. Hampton Beach is great if your looking to be in the "scene". If you are looking for quiet relaxing time, this isn't your beach. My idea of a beach day is relaxing in the sun with a cooler and chair while enjoying the water here and there. Salisbury State Park, $35 per year, or $9 daily, fits that bill perfectly. Overall, I do make my way to Hampton once a year for the "fun" stuff, but once a year is enough. read more

Yeah, it's honky tonk, but I love it. It's great for the kids. Nice beach, lots of greasy fried seafood places, pinball arcades - blue collar, but nice. Hampton Beach is NOT trashy. It's a very clean, nice beach. It's just that the shops and eateries are not as hoidy toidy as the towns just to the north, like Rye and Portsmouth. It's a very clean, not pretentious place to spend the day with a S.O. or with the kids. read more

I'll defer to some of the other reviewers to write the funny reviews. I had mixed feelings about this place. On the plus side, the beach is beautiful, the sand is clean, and the water is a lot warmer than what I used to in northern California. The state beach parking lot at the far south end of the beach (next to the bridge) was only $15, and plenty of parking space. The public restrooms along the beach were reasonably clean (considering it's a public beach). On the minus side, most of the parking "lots" ranged from $20-$30 (I'm not making this up). Traffic along the beach is bump-and-grind, and the beach is very crowded (and I mean from end-to-end). The businesses along the beach reek of tacky, but it's no where near as unpleasant as I remember places like Revere Beach back in the '70's (but I've heard Revere Beach is nicer now, so don't that the wrong way, people from Revere). If you come here with a sense of humor, you'd probably enjoy it. It looks like it would be a great place to visit in the off-season. read more

I used to live in Huntington Beach, CA and can honestly say that other than the water temperature, I prefer the overall atmosphere of Hampton Beach. The town has apparently spent some money in recent years to make the place cleaner and less seedy. Is seedy still a word? I love the many throwback souvenir/t-shirt stores and the giant arcade. I'm 47, and it took me back to a simpler time called the early 80s. Now that I live in the area, this beach is my go to place. There are plenty of gentrified motels in the area that look pretty decent. Specifically, The Main Sail motel where we spent a night recently, and it was great. That is a separate review. In closing, lose the snobbery and cut loose in Hampton Beach. You won't be disappointed. read more

What do cold cold waves, Fry Doe, a crowded arcade with a shooting gallery, high school girls and bros, and a store dedicated to the Insane Clown Posse have in common? Hampton Beach, of course. The beach itself was beautiful -- wide stretches of sand, cool and pristine water, some wave action -- and we lounged for hours under hot sun while intermittently diving in for a swim. It's only along the strip where the action picks up, and suddenly it's easy to be surrounded by gift shops, tattoo parlors, deep-fried everything and airbrushing. Think Nantasket Beach and the Jersey Shore combined. Maybe add in a little Wisconsin Dells for good measure. And one rickety waterslide. ____ We actually had a lot of fun at Hampton, but it was more for the beach and less for the spectacle -- though it's very much worth the trip across the border. read more

Since I come from Toronto and the beaches here aren't that pretty - Hampton Beach was seriously an exciting trip, especially after having the stomach flu. I was going to New Hampshire to visit my nephews, when my uncle did a detour to see this beach. I just had a stomach flu two nights before and was still feeling a little gross from it. But, once I got to the beach, the sun was on full blasts and the waves were strong. There are so many people around, much more than I'm usually used to. Yet, it is still a very well maintained and clean beach. Definitely a well-known beach for a reason! read more

Ducked into an arcade and shot targets. Witnessed the betters win stuffed toys at the model horse race game. Watched boys throw baseballs at the pitching speed game. It squirted everywhere, on the table, all over my seat, and for some reason I just kept laughing. Holy geez I could amuse myself people watching at Hampton Beach for a whole beach day no problem!! My amazement at being surrounded by SO MANY braces-clad tweeners and various other interesting people almost makes me forget that I just signed up to spend a day surrounded by them... Two simple things make Hampton Beach worthwhile: 1) It's actually a long stretch of beach with decent sand and minimal seaweed in the water (yes its still cold) not too far from Boston 2) There's other amusement right "on" the beach other than just lying on the beach.... #2 makes this an especially great beach for mixed groups. At Hampton Beach, I never have to listen to my boyfriend whine that he is bored... plenty of things to keep him amused while I lay and get my sun with the other lazy and incredibly white people. Hell, go to the casino even! And when I get bored of being a bum too, which I inevitably do --- time to take a walk on the trashy strip and buy some overpriced milkshakes or take some pictures in one of the sticker photobooths largely populated by 14-year-old girls. No huge rush back to the Hamp-Hamp, but inevitably I shall return for a sunny day of people watching and beach action. read more
