These are some sweet new digs. Hammerpress has moved again, this time to a super cool spot in the West Bottoms. Parking was a little bit of an issue at the old space. Not so much here. Parking is available out front, in a lot down the block and also on the street within the neighborhood. It's convenient and also a massive improvement from the old space, where at times it felt like you were risking your life trying to cross the street. Once you're inside, there's plenty of space, so you can take your time browsing through Hammerpress' collection of cards, prints, posters and more. If you're an old fashioned soul, who enjoys the old written ways, they also offer note pads, journals and specialty pens and pencils.

    Miscellaneous ephemera for the collection.

Are you a collector of Ephemera? Do you like Rock Art Posters? Do you like to rep KC on your office or man cave walls? Maybe you're the old fashioned type that loves to send a letter on cool stationary, holiday cards or a frameable postcard? Hammerpress is the place to be and indulge. The retail side of this design studio and print maker is first rate and always has something new to add to my crazy collections or as a wonderful gift for the hipsters, nerds and lovers of all things KC in my life. Another original gem in this city that deserves continued success.

For paper, ink and pen junkies, this is your crack house. I nearly fainted with glee as I cross the threshold of Hammerpress. New to town, I felt like I'd found my very own clubhouse. This is first and foremost a working press with three incredibly cool machines whirling, stamping and inking out beautiful creations--posters, cards and other paper productions. Secondly it's an aesthetically pleasing place with concrete floors and bronze wood with amber shining vintage light fixtures. It sells pens, ink, staplers, stationary, candles and assorted other items. I left with two bags of goodies. I'll be back. Nearby Lulu's Thai Noodle Shop will sate your appetite. These businesses are the reason I'm loving my new hometown. Call me a Kansas Citian!

Fetch is full of fun finds, KC merch, locally sourced product displays, and so much more. The back room is loaded up with some excellent thrift finds, even though the price point is reflective of the unique pieces moreso than just turning over resold 'stuff'. Throw in some cool home accents (I was so close to nabbing the martini olive throw rug) and some other kitschy gems and you have a great spot. Parking is west side street stuff, so you're on your own. The staff is super friendly and always making suggestions, and their playlists are phenomenal. Pricing is on par with the area and like shops, but give yourself a little treat now and then. But give that south wall a gaze, because their sandwich sign social voice is seriously top shelf. I don't care what side of the fence you land on, Fetch focuses their messages on kindness & humanity. Give me more, soooooo much more. And Gretchen was spot on, because it's so Fetch.

Not just a clever tagline, during my visits, I lose count of how many times I say, "This place is so cool!" And while I don't consider myself super cool, this tropical oasis has me beLEAFing it. Admittedly, I have a history of being a black thumb girly, but the customizable format of rOOTS gives me confidence I can change that! At rOOTS, every plant has a QR code for you to scan for information, care instructions, and a contact for additional support. You can also get your plant professionally potted at no charge. It literally takes out all the guesswork and will have you saying, "You grow!" In addition to dozens of plant varieties and pots, they have plant accessories, home goods, and gifts. And they host events EVERY week, so be sure you're following them to see what fun they have planned. So who's with me in becoming KC's newest plant parent?! I'm ROOTing for you!

The quality is excellent, the message behind the brand matters, and the people running it are simply wonderful. I cannot recommend this place enough. The upside is the amazing selection; the downside is the effect on your wallet. One stop into a Raygun outlet will have you laughing, making regional arguments, or looking into some political statements that you may proudly wear. You can support your passion for sports without paying for licensed wear or you can pick up merch that we have you saying the quiet part out loud emblazoned across your chest. Want to shake up some boomers at your next family gathering, or maybe make your stance known so that your stubborn old uncle can't clap back? Raygun has you covered. Their T-shirts are combed cotton and they are ridiculously soft. There are local handicrafts from coasters to stickers and so much in between. Even if there was an event that happened in recent days, then Raygun probably already has a statement on a T-shirt made just for any size. Parking is Crossroads-oriented, which is find the best spot you can and prepare to walk just a little bit.
