The instructors are so talented, patient, and helpful. They make it a fun environment with friendly chit chat, and either music or a movie playing in the background. I absolutely love that you can bring snacks and drinks as you're there for such a long time. And honestly? Time flies while you're there! Mikayla and Sam are two of my favorite instructors to have when I go. They are so upbeat with such positive and fun vibes. They make it so fun and they are both so genuinely kind. This place is one I'll always keep coming back to. I love it so much that I even included it in my Bridal Brunch (and they made is SO special!). My home continues to gain beautiful artwork from here. My only note is parking is a little stressful. The lot is so full of businesses, with many spots reserved to specific businesses.

It was honestly such a good time from start to finish. I love that you can bring your own food and drinks, and they make it easy by providing ice, cups, and everything you need. The studio had a great setup and felt really welcoming for groups. Whether you're artistic or not, it's just a fun, no pressure environment. Definitely planning to come back for another session soon!

A note was included that there was special care and attention taken to ensure the supplies were germ-free amidst the COVID-19 pandemic (our painting class was in June 2020). Ryan was our instructor, and he took the time to walk us through the painting process on a Zoom call. He went at a great pace to make sure everyone was keeping up and understanding the steps. It was my first time doing this type of event virtually, which is challenging, but I was so impressed with how well Ryan was able to teach a group of ~30 over a video call. Throughout the video call, people would hold up their paintings and ask for help, and he would give great guidance to help them get their painting to where they wanted it to be. I am very happy with the outcome of the two-hour class and very pleased with the whole experience. I would highly recommend JJArtworks to anyone--regardless of your location. My work is in Washington state, so this event works for anyone in the United States.

They even offered to deliver the supplies until shipping was available so people could participate. The teacher broke the steps down to simplify a complex painting, and carefully demonstrated each of the techniques. They even broke the class out into breakout rooms so friends could work together from home. Overall, it was a terrific experience.

The Paint Bar is a lot of fun, and no matter how little talent you have (I can't draw a circle…read morewithout Powerpoint), you can indeed create a masterpiece (ok, maybe it will only sell for $2 at your garage sale in 10 years, but your very small children will be impressed). I suggest arriving 30 minutes early, so that you don't get stuck in the line waiting for paints and can focus on importing things like buying a glass of wine. It also helps to be seated near the small stage in front so that you can easily see the example completed painting on the wall. They rotate through a selection of different ones, which are specified on the website when you buy your tickets, so don't pick a class that will paint a lame one like the happy dolphin! Also, you need to see the instructor, who will demonstrate painting an additional example on the stage. The instructor was quite funny, and fairly clear in explaining the individual steps one by one, although she went pretty quickly. The full 2 hours are necessary to complete the painting, and if you fall behind, you will miss some of the tricks or paint combinations. If you bring a date, be sure to praise how much better his or her piece is than yours, over and over again. Artists are sensitive, and who knows, you might get lucky later. If you have talent, maybe your painting will end up in Somerville's Museum of Bad Art, and not in a garage sale!
