I attended one of their flea markets today, that's when other antique vendors set up outside the perimeter of the house with their own goods. On flea market days, the white house items are an extra 20% off ( excluding sale items). All sales are final. Very fun place to walk thru, reminded me of all those antique shops in the Stillwater area. There are so many little spaces to discover and dig thru. In one of the rooms they even have free coffee to sample! Free parking in the lot next to it, in addition to free street parking in downtown Anoka. All the staff were welcoming and smiling as we came thru.

Antique shops, especially malls are a mix of interesting people who put their time and soul into creating and maintaining the treasure trove in their shops. For most, this a passion and not big business. I browse antique shops to find special things, immerse my senses in times past and enjoy a time-out from life's pressures. This mall is a continuing source for many wonderful things in my home and the first place I shop for gifts. I find that if I'm sincere and polite, people generally respond in kind. I went on a road trip with my dad from Wisconsin to Minnesota. Stopped off in downtown Hopkins to hit a few antique malls- The first was Hopkins Antique Mall. Overall the store was pretty good with a decent selection of many items. I eventually found a record I wanted to buy and proceeded to the checkout area up front. I was met with an elderly woman with a cocky attitude. The record I wanted to buy did not have a traditional tag with a price on it, the seller had written the price with pencil on the label of the record which was fine. I proceeded to show and explain to this elderly woman about the written price but she grabs the record from me and pulls the vinyl out of its jacket with no care at all and lays it down on the counter claiming "I know what I am doing, I do this a lot". The vinyl was still hanging out of its jacket as she's saying this and it was just waiting to get scratched. I am pretty sure her name is Lynda or Linda - very pushy ,demanding. If you want to deal with a know it all elderly woman when you check out ,then this is your place to shop.

The guy working downstairs was helping someone move a piece out of the basement, but he still took the time to say hello. Kinda small, but appreciate that stuff. :) The specialty is clearly home-related merchandise, and I'd recommend checking The Loft out for furniture like credenzas, sofa tables, buffets, dressers and the like. There were a lot of cool options for that kind of furniture and all of it natural, beautiful wood and most of it in good shape. Also those antlers. Lots of mounted antlers of all shapes and sizes and most in the $50-75 range. The jewelry that I saw wasn't anything special and I didn't see much in the way of clothing aside from a few coats and fur stoles. The prices were moderate. I picked up a couple of items and was surprised at the higher-than-I'd've-thought expense, but mostly moderate. As we were downstairs looking around, one of the ladies (short hair and striped top) came down and ducked around the corner watching us. I knew what she was doing but chose to ignore her hoping my kids wouldn't know what she was doing. We did find 3 lead soldiers and asked for help, the ladies at the counter told is they would be right with us. We stood there for about 5 or more minutes until someone finally came to help us...apparently they all needed to help one customer. We bought our items and left. My two kids pointed out in the car to me that they knew the lady in the striped top was watching us. There were plenty of other customers also shopping but she decided to follow and watch us. No thanks. This is the last time we'll ever come here. There are plenty of other antique shops around that don't do this to us. We love antique shopping. It's sad too, as we live in Elk River.

The three levels are laid out well and you are not cramped walking through there. Never an old musty smell or tons of junk. I have bought many things here over the years from old fireplace mantles, to upcycled gifts, a midcentury drink cart, Vintage Pyrex, and even Cutco knives. I love this place and every time I am up in Elk River i make sure to stop in!
