We called on Halstead in an emergency based on local recommendations. They came and offered a fix by replacing an old pump. We were given a quote, and the final bill came back ~$1000 more with a host of unexpected charges and more hours billed than worked. Discussing with Tony (the owner) went nowhere - he claimed "overhead" and was unwilling to provide receipts or give any other justification. To be fair, we bid the job to reputable competitors, and they came back at 1/2 to of what Halstead charged. Clearly, Halstead was price gouging. We presented this information to Tony which set off a tirade about how he gets to charge whatever he wants, and we should just go somewhere else. We agree: go somewhere else. read more

Had a young tech whine to me for 10 minutes about how MY LANDLORDS' well is a low producer, he sealed a drip in an existing galvanized connection and TESTED a switch, left it hanging for my pump to run dry again. Took less than an hour and I tipped him $40, because he seemed to be having a rough day. I was charged double for parts and double the time he actually spent here working and complaining. Same tech cussed me out when I brought it up over the phone. When telling Tony this, he informed me "THEY CHARGE $185 PER HOUR FOR DIVE TIME ON A REGULAR SERVICE CALL." Got mad because I called him "dude" and hung up on me. He was having a rough day also, I suppose. 1 Star, because the drip was stopped. I have been using this company for many years with total satisfaction. Tony is fair and a great communicator. They always show up right away. Last year my pressure pump gave out on xmass eve. Our pipes in the pump house leaked so badly due to the pressure switch being stuck on. We came home after a long day to find a strange "zzzzzzzz" noise coming loudly from the pump house. Pressure was way high, luckily it didn't blow up the shed behind the house! We called Tony on Friday and were nervous as it was the last day of work before the Memorial long weekends. He sent someone to our house immediately (although he said they were short staff due to the holiday.) Things went smoothly after they replaced the pipes and pressure switch and the turn off valve. We have waited a few weeks to see how things are going before writing this post. So far everything is in order! The pricing is reasonable as well as the good job. I had been looking for someone to clean my well and well pump, which had degraded to about 1 gpm. Other local service companies had be on hold for many months and could not give me a date when they could do it (do to supply issues). Tony from Halstead responded to my inquiry very quickly and was able to do the job within a few days. The cleaning he did brought my well and pump back up to 12.5 GPM! Ah yes, Tony the man with the golden voice. I was in an emergency as my tenants and I did not have water. I had a well company for 40 plus years, I called on a Friday at 8 am. I then emailed, then called the cell, then called again. Nada. Today is Tuesday and they still have not called back so I can curse them out. So Sunday out of desperation, as the house pump was spurting out in three locations water, emptying out my water tank. Tony answered within 15 minutes and was going to show up next am, but we had to cancel as PGE keeps shutting off the electricity, but his lovely son showed up today. Nice, pleasant, knowledgable, and efficient. I had asked Tony on our first call, " Am I being a little over dramatic or is not having water for three days considered an emergency as a landlord. Tony assured me it was an emergency. Then I asked, and what do you think of me having a company I was loyal to and loved Tom Wells for 40 years, and they do not even call back, and not even when I called and said please at least leave a reference to get me some help. Tony said, his long term customers come first, the loyalty, the long haul support from his customers. I felt better that I was not overly negative in my assessment that Tom abandoned me. I will be using them from this moment on. I am grateful, as I also look like a hippy and I tend to get taken advantage of, but I was very pleased with the efficiency and conversation. I highly recommend them and switched companies. Thank you for saving me. My tenants are happy too. I have lived in the Santa Cruz Mountains for 25 years and used Halstead Pump back in the time that Morris Halstead ran the business. It is now owned and run by Tony M. who worked for Morris many years. He learned the business well and really knows what he is doing--very competent. It is easy to reach the company when you need them, and they respond quickly, especially if you are without water. A reliable outfit. Oh, and one time he even showed up with a big bouquet of sunflowers for us--growing them is one of his hobbies. I only wish that these days Tony could afford the time to come to the work site himself more often (and, I'm not saying that just because I miss the sunflowers ;=} ). Incredibly good service from this company. We lost our water pump and they came out quickly and repaired. Very honest organization.

We recently moved to a rural part of Santa Clara County and had to replace the 30 year old water storage system at our new property. As wells and water storage are new to us, we did a lot of research and talked to several local companies to get quotes. Tony was the most confident about the job and made what we thought was a complex project very simple. He brought in a crane to remove our old steel tanks and a shipping container without damaging our trees. They were replaced with two 5k gallon plastic tanks, new pressure tanks and all new plumbing for the system. The Halstead crew was reliable, professional and did very high quality work that more than met our expectations. We now have a safe, clean and reliable water system, thanks to Tony and his crew. These guys are amazing. Our pump went out and we had no water at all. I called the owner, Tony, in the evening and they had a truck up first thing the next morning. All I asked them for was an estimate to replace the pump which I thought had seized. They quickly assessed the problem and found that the pump had broken away from the pipe. They pulled the pump from the well and fixed the problem and I had water running again all in about 2 hours. AMAZING GUYS TO WORK WITH - Mark and Carlos are the BEST ! My apologies to the other customer who had an appointment that I made them late for but they will do their absolute best to keep their customers happy and with healthy flowing water ! Water is such gift, we in the US have no idea what it's like not to have water at our finger tips. So naturally when my water did not come out of the tap I was quite concerned. I called Tony this morning about it he got back to me within a few hours. Right after that I rec'd a call from one of his technicians telling me someone would stop by some time today & within a few minutes Ryan pulled up my driveway! I'd say that is service!!! I explained what was going on & he was able to diagnose & fix it right then & there. Knowledgeable, friendly, polite, worked quickly & professionally & indulged me in answering all my questions & being patient with me as I was pretty concerned about all this. Just had a new well pump installed. I'm a handyman and like to do things myself, but I needed help with this job. They don't compromise on quality and that makes for reliable water. Their long time in the business shows...they have already made the mistakes and learned from them. All good. I was sold because you get a 24-hour pager number to call in case of emergency. I've been using these guys since 2003. They have always fixed my problem. I have a water tank and pump to feed my irrigation and domestic water. This time, my pump stopped working and the controller said "inverter error". I called Tony, and he said "oh oh, that might be a bad driver". Luckily he had one in stock and Carlos came over to look at it. He was an hour late, but apologized saying his previous job ran over. Not a good start, but par for the course. I explained the problem and he had the same reaction. "Oh oh, bad driver (controller)". I asked him how much and he said "I don't know, but I'll call Tony. It is in the several thousand range." Gulp. He proceeded to debug. He cleaned out the sensor and changed some old rusted fittings and the pressure gauge. No luck. The pump still didn't work. He kept digging in the controller box and with a bit of delight he says "look this wire is loose". He fools with it and the pump starts running. He then tightens the wire screws and is on his way. Great job, he kept on digging until he found the problem, without swapping out the drive. If you call these guys, ask for Carlos. read more

Several times the pump or electricity or the holding tank had issues causing water stoppage and they responded very fast and always found the problem. Family run and reasonable prices.
