I wanted to try on all the costumes all day long. So after finally narrowing down all my choices to two I anxiously run home to try on these costumes in front of my husband. How will he resist me in all my beauty that these costumes have significantly enhanced? He'll feel so lucky to be married to me. After 31 years of marriage he'll think I look better than I ever did. So I try on the first costume and look expectantly at my husbands face. Why isn't it all lit up with admiration? Wait why does he look funny? I slowly turn around and look in the mirror in my room and GASP!!!! I'm not a super model. In fact I more closely resemble the Stay Puff Marshmallow Man. Spirit Halloween Store's mirrors are LIARS!!! Neither costume was as flattering as those dressing room mirrors allowed me to believe. Actually only one I would actually wear out in public. I went again to another Spirit store and tried on something there and now I realized the mirrors are the type of mirrors you may find in a Fun House only not as extreme. I looked in one in my outfit I wore to work and again I was infatuated with myself. But I'm smarter this time. I look up and down slowly and realize my ankles look like toothpicks. And when did my shoulders get so narrow? Wow my legs are skinny and tall. SNAP OUT OF IT!!!! Spirit Mirrors are deceiving me to get my money. I'm on to you Spirit!!!! Other than that they have a gigantic selection of everything. Bring a honest friend to give you the real scoop of how a costume looks on you so your ego and soul don't get crushed like mine did when reality slapped me in the face.

I searched the net frantically for someplace local, then for one that would guarantee two-day delivery from the order date. I came up with only one possibility -- Fun 'N Folly, which didn't say they could do this outright, but listed a phone number to call to expedite an order. Forgetting about the time difference, I called the number at 11am EDT on Wednesday morning and caught the owner at home before he'd even had a chance to get to the office. (They're in San Diego, so it was only 8am there. Oops, I'm SO sorry!) I explained my predicament, and that it needed to arrive at our house by Friday so we could take it with us for the out of town performance over the weekend. He said he could handle it. (Oh, my gosh, yay! Thank you!) He had me submit my order online, with a note about the expedited shipping, and said he'd take care of it. On Thursday, he called to confirm that the order had shipped on Wednesday and would arrive on Friday via UPS. And it did! And it's exactly what she needed, down to the color on the sarong. Fabulous! I'll be sure to use them again any time I'm ordering costumes online. He went way above and beyond to satisfy a first-time customer with a small order. In my book, that speaks volumes! I needed balloons and waited there. She just stared at me and when we locked eyes, I said, Are you ready for me? She nodded a yes. Just totally not happy, not friendly, not helpful. So sad. Also, the giant balloon I ordered went flat and numbers fell off within the first day. Happily when I shared this with the manger, she invited me to come in for a refund. I've now changed my 1 star rating and I am back to recommending this store!

After scavenging through my closet, I couldn't come up with anything creative so to 'Party City' I went. Location/Ambiance/Items: -Off the 15 freeway in Carmel Mountain -Private Parking and near other stores such as BevMo. -The store is spacious and well-maintained. -Not many costumes left on display since it was post-Halloween, but I did snag a few items that were Dia de los Muertos themed: a black lace tie-on bustle, floral sugar skull masquerade mask, and a sugar skull designed long-sleeve shirt. I got lucky with their slim pickings, but my wallet was not so lucky. Prices seemed to be much higher compared to their online store. Wack! -They also have other miscellaneous party supplies: balloons, party favors, napkins, decorations for special events/occasions, tableware, serveware, and accessories. Customer service: Return policy is lame: Return 7 days prior to holiday. Cashier did not seem friendly nor informed me of the exchange policy, which is wack, because I don't have issues like this with other stores like Target. As long as it's unused and still in it's original packaging I don't see why I can't return items. Oh well lesson learned. If you're on a budget, I recommend checking the 99 Cents store or bargain outlets first. Don't procrastinate like I did.
