Meh...the store is really pretty, all sparkles and shiny. But not all that glitters is gold…read more The problem seems not to be the lack of beads, but staff. I believe that the shop is owned and run by a mother/daughter duo. However, if there are other staff working in the shop they're totally unknown. I've been shopping here since they opened but the shop always seems understaffed. When the owner is in she is attentive to her customers but that's about it. Many times I've gone in and no one has been at the counter instead people have been at the tables in the rear room talking and chatting. However, you don't know who works there. The last time I went in, Sunday, October 17, no one even acknowledged that I was there. I walked the store several times looking for something in particular but since I wasn't sure who it was that was working in the shop and who was a customer I didn't ask for any help. That seems to be the constant in the shop. It's great that they're so friendly if you are friends with the staff because otherwise...who knows. I haven't taken any of their classes. I don't think they have a great deal of variety for settings or findings, but they have a lovely selection of beads. Prices are a tad bit higher than across the street at Gifts of Avalon but they are a good balance to Gifts of Avalon. They carry similar beads, some of the same, but they have a bunch of items that aren't the same which is nice to create variety in Gainesville.

I needed glow-in-the-dark paint to do my art, and a friend told me to go check this place out…read more It is in an old warehouse on South Main st (SoMa) right before the Cade Museum. The owner sells mostly to architecture and art students, but that is not all he has. He is a painter, and post-industrial lamp-maker! "What is that?", you ask. He takes ordinary objects that people see as junk and turns them into the funkiest one-of-a-kind lamps you will ever see! Some of them look like bugs, some look like robots, and some are just ...well... unique! This place is a Gainesville original!!! He makes his lamps from: guitars, microwave glass plates, fixtures, cars parts, brackets, or most anything that has used up its usefulness (post-industrial), and most people want to throw away! Just to see what he comes up with is amazing! When I was there, he was working on a lamp made from an old tuba! Yes! A TUBA!!!! You have to see this place to understand. He has a corner strewn with parts for his lamps. Wmay see junk, but he sees light!! I bought two jars of paint for my art, shook his hand, and said I'd be back to see hiw the tuba comes out! Check out the pics! Update: I went back amd bought a teach-yourself-to-draw book, and now I am drawing for the first time in my life!! Wow!!
