DAMAGED VINTAGE PUCCI DRESS, UNAUTHORIZED TAILORING OF THE HEM. Dropped a dress off for a spot treatment for a stain on the top of the dress. As shown on my receipt asked for spot treatment only, hand wash only, and delicate care of vintage item. Upon pick up was charged $400 and when asked about the price difference they told me that was for the tailoring. They tailored my vintage dress without my permission, likely due to damage to the dress while in their care. Upon inspection, they hemmed the bottom of the dress without ever having me try it on. Then tried on the dress and it was nearly 6 inches shorter than the dress I dropped off. I asked them to restore the dress to original condition. The issue was then escalated to Leah (manager) and Mr. Hallak. What they returned was appalling. Not only did it somehow look worse with weird mismatching fabric that I am not sure where they got it from it had new damage, stains, and looked absolutely horrible. They single handed ruined an irreplaceable, special vintage Pucci piece. No effort was made to actually remedy the HUGE mistake of their end or explanation of why the dress was even altered in the first place. They only agreed to refund $400 dry cleaning amount, nothing for damaging my dress. IF YOU CARE ABOUT SOMETHING DO NOT BRING IT HERE THEY WILL DAMAGE IT. THEN PROCEED TO TELL YOU IT LOOKS THE SAME. STAY AWAY!!! Provided before and after pictures for your reference, absolutely criminal!!! read more

The Store Manager James is an awesome professional. I recently was referred to to Hallak after another cleaners shrank my high quality tailored jackets. He immediately assessed the situation and worked with his team to identify material which could be identified to help let out the jackets. HORRENDOUS EXPERIENCE - NEVER BRING ANYTHING YOU CARE ABOUT TO HALLAK CLEANERS!!!! I brought my satin Armani evening dress to Hallak. The dress was over $5,000 and this was the first time it was dry cleaned. They didn't protect the zipper pull and the paint was completely ruined on the zipper pull as rubbed off. Then, I called to speak with Leah who informed me that my dress wasn't ruined even though the zipper looked terrible and the zipper could just be re-painted to match the green dress. I called Armani in NY and in Milan to try to replace the piece, as well as Bergdorf Goodman but it was unfortunately not possible. When I called Leah to tell her to ask her how they were going to handle it, she said Mr. Hallak wanted to see the dress so I dropped it off. Armani said "DO NOT PAINT THE ZIPPER" as you may further ruin the dress and the paint could rub off on the dress. I told this to Leah and was very explicit that I was bringing the dress back only for Mr. Hallak to look at it but I DID NOT authorize them to try to fix it. When I didn't hear back after 5 days from Mr. Hallak, I called again and was told by Leah that Mr. Hallak "didn't want to call me but was taking care of it." I reiterated that they were not authorized to paint the zipper and that Mr. Hallak should call me before touching my dress. I didn't hear back for another few days only to receive an email from Leah that the zipper had been painted and was being returned to me. The zipper was painted but they got paint on my dress and then damaged the fabric in a second spot - probably trying to rub the paint off of it. I am so upset and disgusted with this situation. DO NOT EVER USE THEM FOR ANYTHING AS THEY HAVE NO CARE AND THE CUSTOMER SERVICE IS HORRENDOUS. GO TO JEEVES OR YOUR LOCAL CLEANER AS YOU WILL GET A BETTER OUTCOME. Comments below are empty as Mr. Hallak has my cell and my email. I have asked several times for a phone call and now over Yelp wants to appear as if he wants to communicate. Leah specifically tried to brow beat me with the hope I would go away. They are radio silent but for on yelp. read more

I was billed $127 on my credit card that I did Not authorize! I am upset because they took it upon himself to look up my number and unauthorizes a charge on my credit card. They never called me directly to tell me about the charge that I apparently owed. The item that had been delivered to my job had been paid for upon delivery. Unfortunately I don't have the paperwork or can't locate it to prove my purchase, so it seems I'm paying twice. For arguments sake even if I did owe the money I find that it took a lot a Gall to just take the money out of my account through my credit card. Aside from them not doing work that they're supposed to they also are incredibly sketchy when dealing in payment methods, so if you decide to be a customer with Halik please pay cash. Unbelievably disappointed!! read more

Pricey but excellent. Would happily recommend for special, delicate evening/formal wear.

I had brought in a Hermes Jacket that I wore for the first time to Hallak due to some bleeding in the print of the fabric after the first wear. The jacket was valued over $2000 when purchasing. Upon picking up my garment it was discovered that Hallak had completely destroyed the snap buttons on the jacket which were abraded and ruined. I was told by the employee that the item was washed in a metal basin which could have caused this which justified the mishandling of the garment. I am shocked that the item was even washed because the handling tag clearly states hand clean only and cannot be washed in water. I even pointed this out when dropping off the item that it's a special care item and can only be hand cleaned. If the item would have been hand cleaned there would absolutely no way that the snaps would be destroyed to this extent. There would be no way that there would be chips and dents in the metal snaps had it been hand cleaned. This method of cleaning that they used also caused more bleeding. My main concern is that the jacket was picked up in a different condition then it was dropped off. I could have looked past the bleeding but I can not look past the further damages caused. The snaps are beyond repair leaving me with a ruined unwearable garment. I tried bringing the jacket to Hermes to replace the snaps but they could not offer replacing the snaps as it is beyond repair. When bringing back the issue to Hallak the only solution was to "touch up" the snap buttons. If Hermes could not fix the snaps then that leaves no faith in Hallak fixing the snap buttons that were caused by their mishandling of my garment in the first place! Concealing their error in handling will not bring the snaps to its original state. I was not offered any other solutions not even a reimbursement for the cleaning at the minimum which I was charged for over $100! Added: To your reply my invoice number for this job was 513195. read more

I have used Hallak for a couple of years. They do a great job dry cleaning my things. They did not do a good job with my alterations on my Giza 45 sheets, two tops and skirt. I came into the shop to show them the sloppy work the seamstress had done. She agreed it was not good work. I have spent thousands on dry cleaning with them. As a faithful customer, I was not offered anything other than an apology. No refund. No offer to fix the problem. I am taking my business to Madame Paulette. In all fairness, I don't know if they will be any better, but it is worth a try. I will post a picture of the sheets and skirt soon. read more

I have stains on my Hermes cap and dropped it off last Thursday as I brought it to Hermes shop and they recommended to take it to Hallak Cleaner. I brought it to them and the lady in the counter was nicely helping me that she would get back to me this Monday. I did not hear by Tuesday so I called and same lady told me that Mr Hallak would check and get back to me by Wednesday, which I did not hear until today. I called today at 3pm on July 23rd and a gentleman name James answered. He seemed like he did not know what I requested previously (taking off stains & fix the faded color). I explained about my requests and he told me 'What you mean, you want us to change the color of the cap?' in very rude voice. If this is their customer service mind, I could not trust on them so I told them that I would pick up my cap back. He said 'Come pick it up tomorrow. We don't have it now' I can not believe this cleaner is referred by Hermes. He is not a right person for customer service there. read more

They are dishonest thieves. I will upload a photo of the particular incident that I am reviewing. We used Hallak many times before noticing that they were adding random charges to our orders and blowing them up to be much more than they should have been. Shirts were not costing the $8 that we were told they costed, instead we were getting charged upward of $30 per shirt and then they added strange charges like "re-doing 14 buttons", something that neither needed to be done or was asked to be done. What was really odd was that the expensive, custom made shirts were coming back at $8.70 a shirt, and then for the cheapo JCrew shirts we were getting charged $30 something dollars PLUS weird charges for bizarre things like the buttons that weren't needing replacement. And they weren't even replaced! Didn't really notice anything other than the huge bills because the dry cleaning was dropped off by their delivery service. Then we decided to investigate why the bills were always like $300 for not that many shirts. Boom. Found the itemized tags attached that had all the false charges on the cheaper shirts. We will NEVER use them again as they are taking advantage of people and stealing money when they think no one is looking. read more

I promised to come back and upgrade my rating if Hallak was able to properly clean my Burberry trench and THEY DID. I usually don't write reviews however this one is well deserved. Sent a Christian Dior short simple dress to dry clean, silk and velvet. Was charged 425 usd for dry cleaning it and the dress is completely damaged and has the smell of a cheap laundry. The black velvet top part shines like silver, completely ruined!! I intend to tell my story to all the high end stores where I shop and to all friends/acquaintances. Laundry's should stand by their claims. These used to be the cleaners I relied on for the most expensive clothes: Hermes, all the couture. Their prices went up and their skills went down . Brought in a Hermès double-face buttonless cashmere jacket , for steaming and shaping: an inept out-of-town cleaner had puckered the seams. First time I came to collect it, it was just as puckered. They said they would redo , but charged me anyway, without telling me:$177.00 for a job not done. I left it there for months(Covid) Picked it up today . The outside is acceptable. The inside hem is still puckered. They only worked on the parts that show, That's second rate. Hallak was amazing with altering my wedding gown. George is a miracle worker. Enough said. After schleping all over the city trying to find someone to alter a couture gown I purchased at a sample sale, Hallak's prices were unbeatable. They took a size 12 dress down to a size 0...something that other places refused to do or wanted to charge thousands of dollars for. The dress fits like a glove and everyone at Hallak, especially George, was so patient with me during my many, many fittings. He also was willing to add custom beading to the dress and it made it even more stunning. They always scheduled appointments, spent as much time with me as needed, and even delivered my dress when I was planning on carrying it back to my apartment. Thank you Hallak for giving me a beautiful gown and for making one part of wedding planning, less stressful!! read more

Too expensive for wedding dress alterations! These gentlemen were very friendly and the dressing room was large and clean, but they tried to do the classic wedding gouge. Best cleaner in the city? Not anymore...I was a customer for years, trusting only Hallak to clean and tailor all of my dry cleaning. Their work and service were terrific. After covid-19, it changed. My bad experience, like another reviewer, was having to do with payment. I gave them a credit card when picking up altered clothing, and when I called to pay for the last item that was being altered, I was told I owed for that AND the clothing I had previously paid for. It was like being in the twilight zone. This was a store where I didn't even keep receipts, because of how much I trusted them. I was directed to speak with the owner's assistant who opens with, "You owe us ____." This is how a loyal customer of twenty years is treated? I did owe them for the clothing, unbeknownst to me. At the time I picked up my clothing I gave them my credit card, offered to pay for the dress left behind and was told to pay for it when it is ready. They sent a statement in the mail saying I had a zero balance and one open invoice for the dress. When I called to pay for that dress, that is when the counter girl accuses me of not paying. My new boss overheard this bizarre conversation and told me to hang up and don't pay a dime until the store gives a complete breakdown. In the end, I had to call my bank. There were no charges or attempted charges by Hallak for any of the dates listed. So, they had some technical issue and/or inaccurate bookkeeping and instead of owning up to it and handling the situation with finesse, they go on the offensive. It didn't even make sense. Why would the manager hand me my clothing, if I hadn't paid. The whole thing was strange, insulting, and unnecessary. If their goal was to lose me as a customer, they succeeded. Does anyone know if Madame Paulette is still around and doing quality work? read more

If the Devil wears Prada, she has it cleaned by the angels at Hallak. I'm not ashamed to admit that some of my happiest love affairs have been with clothes. As a result, I have experienced crushing heartbreak upon opening my dry cleaning and finding a beloved garment completely destroyed--misshapen, faded, buttons broken or missing. Have you ever experienced that sinking feeling? It's as if you've been vandalized by your dry cleaner. The annihilation of your favorite piece of clothing--be it the one you saved up for in college and still wear like a uniform; the perfect pair of jeans; or the one-of-a-kind Lanvin which was so beautifully-made that it hung on a wall in your home like a prized work of art... Hallak Cleaners can protect against such heartache. (Although it may cause agita of a different kind when you receive the bill.) The lovely people here understand the separation anxiety we have when we leave our important clothes behind. From shirts to weddinig gowns, Hallak is experienced with well-made garments, understands their special needs, and treats them with care. Your restored pieces are returned to you beautifully wrapped, in the sort of good tissue paper, plastic sleeves and envelopes that you will want to save for storage and travel. This uncommon dry cleaner knows designers and their nuances, which is why high-end specialty stores and Madison Avenue boutiques confidently recommend Hallak to clients. (Do note that while they will try their best, they can't always perform miracles; Hallak performs magic, but it can't recreate something that's already been destroyed.) read more

I have not looked at the wedding dress of my older daughter since it's been boxed up, cleaned and preserved, but the manager Donna was amazing to work with. Never again. I brought Hallak Cleaners a Loro Piana storm system jacket and cashmere lined vest to be cleaned. I had read other's comments regarding high prices so I requested that they call me with an estimate before doing any work. After 3 days, they called and I agreed to the $350 estimate; thinking "these are high quality garments and Hallak is supposed to be the best. They will probably be like new. After all, they are going to take the buttons off to clean it!" Well, I was very, very wrong. The first thing I noticed when I got the garments back were the orange tags on the hangers placed there by the Hallak's "inspectors." The tags indicated that despite their best efforts, they couldn't get the garment any cleaner without risking damage to the fabric. I thought there might be a small spot somewhere that they couldn't get rid of. When I removed them from the plastic, I was amazed. It was as if they put the dirty coats on a hanger and sent them back to me. In fact, I am pretty sure that is what they did. I took a microfiber cloth, ran it under some warm water and blotted the coats. Within a couple of minutes I had the coats looking much cleaner than Hallak's supposed experts! Maybe it is a good business plan: their predecessors develop a good reputation, new managers take over and trade not on their current performance but their past reputation. Save yourself a few hundred dollars. Get a damp cloth and some tap water and put these con artists out of business. read more

Hallak Cleaners definitely made me feel at ease in leaving my wedding gown in their hands. Really, the only bad part was that I had to trek in from Brooklyn. After I brought in my dress, the manager gave it a thorough assessment, and gave me what I think is a really fair price for top-notch cleaning, preservation, and shipping (out to my mom's in California, mind you). He was very professional, and courteous. Their staff was also helpful in making sure to contact me when the dress was ready to ship, and were mindful to email me with the tracking code so I could obsessively check its status five times a day. (I was coming off wedding planning, mode, what can I say?) I must add two final notes. First, Hallak was recommended to me by the boutique where I purchased by gown -- Cymbeline. Therefore, I did receive a slight discount on my dress preservation. Second, there's no substitute to going into the store for an appraisal and cost estimate. I did send in a photo, and fill out their online form, but I submitted it only hours before deciding to just go into the cleaners. The final price was more or less half of the automated cost estimate I received after I had returned from the cleaners, which goes to show that they are being cautious in their indirect estimates, and not trying to lure you in and then force a higher price than they should. read more

This cleaner shrunk two new Brioni polo shirts by washing and drying them as opposed to dry cleaning them. I could not have been more clear with the store's staff when dropping off these garments that they were to by dry cleaned only. They attempted to stretch them back to their original size but were not able to do so to my satisfaction. It's taken them weeks and weeks to finally tell me they will not replace the shirts and that my request for them to do so is not legitimate. I will never use their services again. read more

This is reviewing their UGG cleaning services last winter. I got my uggs in 2010 and let them sit in their filth for a year until last winter (2011) when I had to bring them out for the cold. But they looked, bad. They were ORIGINALLY BLACK, but thanks to NYC salt and my own stupidity, they were grey, worn out, and not very appealing to look at. Brought them to Hallak after reading reviews, and they charged me about $40 for the cleaning. My uggs were back to black! They felt like new, not like crusted salt! Granted they're not going to LOOK brand new, as in they're going to have the marks from walking around in the front where you bend your foot, but color wise and fixing everthing else up? Pretty good! I believe I left them there for about a week before getting them back. Nice part about getting them back was the nice box they put them in when they hand you back your uggs. Its like opening up a Christmas present. i would come back, but I'm trying to treat my UGGs a bit better this time around. read more

This was one of the worst dry cleaning experiences I have ever had. I sent a brand new $2k+ jumpsuit that had a small fingerprint smudge to be spot cleaned. They were charging $158. I got the jumpsuit back, with a sign saying "Sorry we couldn't remove your stain.". I opened the packaging and saw that Hallak's had spilled a brown water all down one side of the jumpsuit - legs/ side/ collar. All over. This stain was not there when I dropped it off. They told me they would try to get it off. When I told them that I would not be paying the $158 as they damaged my jumpsuit, I was told "Mr. Hallak would not be pleased but they would do their best to waive the fee." When I went to pick it up after they told me they got the stain out, they had only removed half and the full collar still had brown liquid stains all over. They didn't even check to see it was done. They sent it back yet again. Finally, almost 2 months later, I received the jumpsuit back without the stains they caused. No one has been apologetic, helpful or concerned. It has been a horrible client experience and I would never trust them with my designer wear. read more

Last weekend, Hallak's driver left several pieces of drycleaning in my building lobby, which is not attended on the weekends, in clear view of the door. Someone -- seeing an opportunity -- jimmed the lock to the front door and stole the drycleaning, both causing me to lose several irreplaceable pieces of couture and causing damage to the building and risk to its residents. When I called to see how Hallak planned to make it right, I was told "it's the building's problem." Huh? The building was not Hallak's client, I was. They didn't bother to consult with me before dumping my clothes in an unattended lobby. I was told the owner was sorry for the unfortunate situation, but there was "nothing he could do." Really? That's what errors and omissions insurance is for. If you have a business that caters to caring for high end clothing, be prepared to provide excellent service and to MAKE IT RIGHT when you don't. It's the only acceptable way to conduct business. Hallak failed spectacularly, and I obviously will never use them again. They do a fabulous job on everything you send them. The only reason that I give them 4 stars is because they are very expensive, and I wish I could afford to send everything to them! I have tried ALL the the high end "couture" New York city dry cleaners. ALL. Jeeves New York, Madame Paulette and Hallak. I am a guy that has nice clothes that costs thousands. ( Its a vice...what can I say) After exploring, I came back to Hallak. I was initially turned off by Hallak's pricing methodology, but after bring screwed over by another high end cleaner which I won't name, I decided to come back to Hallak. What I don't like : 1) Pricing methodology : Hallak charges more to clean the same item if it is high end. In that regard, a Brunello Cuccineli, Gucci, Kiton, Hermes, Tom Ford, etc item will cost a lot more to clean than something from Banana Republic. A pair of pants costs around 38 dollars to clean at the time of wring, but if "premium" , expect to pay closer to 50. Hallak charges more because it comes with more risk to clean something premium. Its a bit of a turn off to be hosed in this way, ( but i understand why they do it). When I pressed Hallak for an explanation I was told that if they ruined my 700 dollar Kiton shirt, it would be replaced. Fair enough. I have never taken them up on it, because nothing bad has ever happened. Personally I try to get a quote up front so there is no sticker shock. Jeeves has a problem getting you a hard firm quote up front ( they will email this to you, after cleaning), but Hallak never has a problem getting you a hard quote that is not subject to change if you stop by their store. 2) They take their time : Jeeves will take a week to clean something, and Hallak does the same. You can ask them to turn around something quickly, but usually it takes a week or minimum 5 days. A good job takes time I suppose. What do I like ( which exceeds what I don't like) 1) Cleaning is flawless. The finishing is perfect. Stains gone. And my bespoke suits pressed perfectly. Some of my Kiton shirts get hand washed, hand finished, and yes it comes back perfect, and they do know how much clothes like that cost and treat it well. No complaints. Only praise. 2) Everyone is so polite. Our building does not have a full time doorman, snd occasionally I have to manage deliveries if they come in the morning when there is no doorman . To do this, I have to call them to triage, the lady that answers the phone is very polite and helpful, and remembers to call me back. If you don't have a full time doorman, the driver will call in the morning to give you a delivery window time. Great ! . Also we live on the West side, Hallak had no problems or qualms doing pick ups when the doorman in on duty in the afternoon. Jeeves and Madame Paulette were not as helpful with my part time doorman situation. 3) The people who work at Hallak have been there for years. Sometimes I drop by the store, they remember my name, know who I am, and inspect each garment in detail with an eye for detail. One lady who is at the 2nd avenue store has been there for 10+ years. Thats a good sign. The delivery people are pleasant too and often bring stuff to my door. Great ! In a nutshell : Its not cheap, but neither is your clothes. You get what you pay for. Also relavant in 2017 : The "Presidents" family send their clothes to be cleaned at Madame Paulette across the street. Madame Paulette is Donald J. Trump's dry cleaner. Ewww. The thought of Donald Trump's families stuff mixing with mine is just gross. Thats enough of a reason to avoid Madame Paulette. My advice : Hallak is on the other side of the street from Madame Paulette , just walk across the street and give them a try. You might feel the need to check out the competition, but like me, you might find yourself coming back. read more

Asked an associate at Burberry where I should get my newly acquired trench coat cleaned and this place was recommended. I waited 4 months before I actually brought it in because, honestly, getting that thing properly cleaned is expensive. Burberry actually recommends that you go to a place that will remove and then resew all the buttons so not a job that I would trust to any corner dry cleaner. Took a week to get the job done and I was absolutely pleased. I thought the two associates I worked with were very friendly and knowledgeable. I was able to inspect the entire coat before paying and the next time I use them I will likely have them just deliver my coat back to apartment. read more

My cleaning process too too long and was lied to multiple times. If you want something done seamlessly, do not use Hallak, but rather go across the street to Madame Paulette's (I've used them with no issue). What should have been a high-end, seamless experience turned into over a two month ordeal. I bring my Burberry trench into Hallak at the recommendation of Burberry for an annual cleaning. The staff suggest that I pay an extra ~$50 to have all of the buttons removed prior to cleaning. This was were the problems began. To make a long-story short, when I first received the coat back, buttons were missing. I brought the coat back and was assured that they had them and would be promptly replaced. Instead of replacing them with the actual buttons (as I believe they likely lost them), they replaced them with cheap, plastic buttons that were clearly different. I was given the run around the next time I brought the coat back, saying they would get the buttons. They eventually had to send the coat to corporate and work with Burberry to get similar replacement buttons. Bottom, line I was lied to by the front line staff regarding the coat, it took over two months to get my garment back, and they lost buttons after THEY recommended that I have them removed and reattached (to protect them during the cleaning process). I think they do a fine job dry-cleaning, but if you run into a problem you could get the run around and be without your garment for 2 months. They did refund my cleaning fee and gave me a credit for a future cleaning (haven't decided if I will take them up on the offer). read more

Hack (rather than Hallak) Cleaners ...failure to consistently follow instructions. In particular do not recommend for tie cleaning. It won't come back in it's original form. They tried to fix their misdeeds (twice) but frankly the tie never came back in its original condition. Time to find a more reliable "couture" cleaner...or just someone who stands by their work. Update: Connected with Donna at Hallak who made every effort to resolve the situation. Thank you and much appreciated for the follow up. read more
