During COVID we switched to video visits but can still request in person visit when needed. He not only improved my mental health dramatically, but also diagnosed a medical condition that I received treatment for, and now that is resolved too! Im now on minimal medications and he shares and appreciates my goals in treatment and in life! He is always on time for appointments(if anything Im the one late), responds to my calls, texts or emails very promptly, and is always very friendly and caring about all aspects of my life. I thought I was getting taken care of. 3 yrs ago after I stopped at my medication because it was starting to turn into Steven Johnson syndrome, I kind of forgot to reschedule and as someone with my mentality, it was out of sight out of mind and I never went back. My physician told me to get back on my meds just to get back on track and I told her that he didn't want to give me the lower dose and that she said that he would have to because that's just how it is, that in whatever medical field all bodies and brains are different. So I thought I can go without medication fast forward to this year I was calling and leaving messages since January and not until I went physically they gave me the BS that "oh we didn't know that you were calling us pull out your chart".. they said that since it's been 3 years apparently my file was in a storage (?) which made me roll my eyes because we are in 2024, everything's on the computer. I get told that I was gone for so long that he would have to see if he even wants to see me as a patient again.. and then I get a call the same day where they asked me why I left and I told him if he had my chart he'd know that this is how I am and that if it is worse, that should be a red flag and I should get the help I need, right? So they told me it would take a week for them to get my file back from the storage which I thought was utter BS. They said they'd call me in a week, they never did I finally called and left them brief message and I told him that I want to see my physician and she even was wondering what the hell was going on with that.. so then they finally called me back saying that since it was a no show that appointment 3 years ago that under his policy I would have to pay $75 and he will reschedule me if I want to.. this guy does not care for the mental state of patients and quite honestly, if feels like a very abusive relationship if you ask me.. so my physician did mention that if they give me a hard time if they do ever get back it's really time to look for another psychiatrist and that's exactly what I'm doing. read more

I agree, Dr. James Hall doesn't really care about his patients. I saw him for 6+months to deal with alcoholism, depression and anxiety. After 4 months he eventually got me on a 30mg dose of escitalopram. Real groundbreaking, in retrospect I'm not sure why he didn't start at this level. I essentially spent $1000 out of pocket to listen to this guy talk about his home in Huntington Harbor and his yacht club membership woes. He maybe spent 30 minutes over 6 meetings talking to me about my illness. I was laid off during covid and do not have any income. I was unable to afford my office visit to get a refill on my prescription. This coward had his front desk lackey call to explain he couldn't refill my prescription without a visit. They did not offer me a reduced cost option and essentially said fuck you and your mental health. Luckily my primary agreed to fill my prescription. In summary I paid this guy $2000/hour for a generic run of the mill antidepressant. I never got the feeling he was at all concerned with my health, just his income. He wouldn't even discuss alternative holistic treatments. Without even knowing what I was talking about he discounted supplements like ashwagandha, st. John's, etc as having no efficacy for depression. If you want to talk, Dr. Hall is not the guy for you. If you have insurance and you just need drugs, he's probably as good as any other narco psychiatrist out there. I'm actually so disappointed that I am considering filing a complaint with the American Psychiatric Association, or whatever board certified this clown. read more

Hi this is an update. I haven't seen this dude since I posted my original review but I now have realized he was even worse than I thought. Do not send your kids here. I was a young girl with anxiety and depression with a lot of ptsd. This man prescribed me ambien. If that does not tell you how horrible he is I don't know what does. I have sleep issues but he went straight to hard sleeping medication before fixing my core issues at hand. He doesn't care and the more I look back in retrospect the more I get pissed and realize how horrid he was and how he took advantage of me not knowing anything to just throw prescriptions at me without any rhyme or reason. read more

I have been calling the office for four days, leaving VM trying to get an appointment. I finally left a nasty message letting the office know how unprofessional this was and that I would be calling my insurance for a new doctor. Later that day Madison called to tell me that it was a mix up. They thought I was a new patient and didn't realize I was already a patient (like that makes not returning calls any better!!?!). She told me my file was in storage and the doctor would have to pull it out and review it. With attitude was like "so .... Do you want a call back or are you going somewhere else ...". The incompetency and lack of professionalism is very frustrating. I would not recommend. read more

Absolutely terrible, really weird in a spooky kind of way. I've had two insane experiences with him. The first time I was referred to him by my family, dr. into a few sessions, he made a statement, he didn't think he could help me, so I stopped going. , months down the line I decided to give it another try , see if things were better. He said everything was good, and in fact said he didn't even recall making that statement. As we got into our sessions he eventually sent me to a neurologist to take some tests., the neurologist sent the results back to Him, and couldn't get him to respond, I started calling his office, got no response. I had to deal with the neurologist personally just to get my test results so I could take to the next therapist I seen. The irony, a psychiatrist who needs a psychiatrist lol read more

Came in on 3/29/19. Can't say anything about the doctor because I never made it to my appointment. The front desk girl CANCELLED my appointment because I had not called back to confirm WHILE I WAS WORKING A 24 HOUR SHIFT AS AN EMT..... TERRIBLE SERVICE! This is how you treat your patients? I have been seeing Dr James Hall psychiatrist for at least 6 years! He is so wonderful and has helped me so much with my anxiety, depression, insomnia and just a fantastic Listener and cares deeply for his patients. I don't know what I would do without him as my dr that I trust more than any dr I have with multiple health problems. After reading these reviews is absolutely shocking! I saw Dr. Hall for the first time by virtual visit and he was patient and listened to my medical situation. I really liked him and I will continue seeing him as my doctor. I was surprised by some the comments here and maybe we are talking about a different doctor. read more

The women that work at the front office make it impossible to make an appointment and treat you like you are incompetent.

"First Dr Hall's office told me I needed a referral from my PCP. They called days later to say this was not the case. Office staff then informed me that I needed to call my insurance for a prior auth. I did and my insurance informed me that I did not need an auth. My PPO plan has never required this, but I humored Dr Hall's office and called anyway. A week before my appointment his office blows my phone up and when I did not answer the same day they cancelled my appointment. I informed them no auth is required and Dr Hall's office stated it was a "glitch" but not before very reactively cancelling the appointment anyway. They offered me an appointment a month later and did not offer a cancellation appointment either. If you are a hard working parent with kids and cannot answer same day calls to save a needed doctor's appointment, then this is not the provider for you. This is not patient centered care..." read more

Been going here since August 2019, and from the get-go it was next to impossible to get in contact with his office. They never EVER answer the phone, so when you need something or need to make a change, be prepared for disappointment. I once needed a pre-auth to fill my medication a certain way because the pills were too big for me to swallow and the response I received was: "Well, I can't call your insurance that's a lot of time for me." But my insurance required that he himself called in, so I was stuck. And now, I'm in between insurances and have not received the card for my new insurance and I was informed that if I could not have the information in before a certain time today, then I will be billed the full amount. I asked for time to get the information and they gave me until 3:00pm and said that if I didn't call them by then that they would call me. I DID call them, and I was once again sent straight to voicemail. It's been an hour and I have yet to receive a call. I don't know how this practice is still allowed to operate, given that the patient care here is lackluster and downright embarrassing. read more
