The lounge has two plasma screens for watching the footie but there is also another room upstairs which has two big screens and another small bar. This room can get very busy for the big matches, but this helps to create a great atmosphere. There is a nice beer garden to the rear of the pub, also with a plasma screen, which is great for watching sport in the summer and there is a heated smoking area The range of drinks are pretty standard, prices are reasonable and there is a friendly atmosphere. It's a must for sport fans, but also a decent pub to go to just for a drink and a chat.

When I arrived, the room was really cold, but the ac produced hot air, so that problem didn't last long. Wifi is free and it is stable enough to skype, even if you end up in a room that's at the end of one of their endless corridors. The bathrooms are modern with a nice-looking, but slightly unpractical shower (fixed overhead shower). I don't know anything about their prices but I heard that they charge 10 quid for breakfast.

Impossible?…read moreNo, I stayed at the Kenwood Hall Hotel in Sheffield, as it is now known recently and although I had walked past the entrance many times when I was younger I didn't realise what lay behind the gates. The original gates are now closed and a larger entrance is just up the next road, there is plenty of parking and even room for a bus! The original hall is still used but the more modern building has been sympathetically designed to fit in with the older building. The 12 acres of parkland including the lake gives the hotel a restful feeling, and we were lucky enough to have good weather and enjoyed a walk around watching the squirrels and the ducks. There were seats and tables outside and even in September it was warm enough to enjoy a drink in the sun. This is also a conference centre and has several rooms for meetings and parties and dedicated staff who deal with this side of the hotel. Once a Swallow hotel, it changed to Marriott but now is part of the Principal Hayley group. As we walked in to Reception we were immediately welcomed and registration was quickly dealt with. The reception often had two members of staff dealing with guests, and although we didn't need help with our case it was offered. There was plenty of seating in the reception and adjoining bar area, stairs led up to function rooms and lifts were through the swing doors. It was modern and very clean. Altogether 110 rooms, I was lucky enough to have a room overlooking the garden and lake. There were six in our party so I got to see 3 rooms and although the twins were similar the double was more like a suite with separate lounge area, and large armchairs. 18/10 Restaurant - Sheffield is famous for steel and the name of the restaurant is taken from a type of Stainless steel. We booked a table but although the hotel was quite full it wasn't too busy. Service was quite good and we had a little time between courses which if I'm not in a rush I like. At both ends of the room was a small raised area with a few tables which allowed a larger group to be away from the main dining room. The restaurant was also used for breakfast and then had a buffet set up behind the table area. There was a choice of cereals, plenty of fresh fruits, yogurt, fruit juices, cold meat and cheeses, plenty of hot dishes, bread, rolls, Danish pastries and waffles made to order. Small jars of jam and marmalade were already on the tables as was milk, and pots of tea or cafetierres of coffee were left on the table to help yourself. We ate in the Lounge bar on our second night as we only needed a light meal, there was a choice of various sandwiches, served with crisps and salad from about £6.25, Quesadillas, Classic Burgers with fries etc. Wine was £5.20 a glass, beer £3.30 a pint and Coke £2.35. The only difficulty was there wasn't enough room to put all our plates on the table but our knees worked OK! For guests who like to be active there was a small pool and Jacuzzi and a small gym with weights and cardiovascular section. Also a Spa, but I'm afraid there wasn't time to sample this. It did seem to be well used though. We paid £75 per person for the two nights for bed and breakfast, it is advertised as £79 per double room but offers are available, and you can get a reduction for online booking. A great place to stay in Sheffield, because it is quite close to the city and the shops, museums, theatre etc, but with plenty of parking. Excellent food and beautiful surroundings. Where else can you stay in a city and listen to an owl hooting at night and be woken by a cockerel in the morning?

I stayed here over the course of 2 weeks on business. During my stay I have a walk around the area and I found many jobless youth standing outside the nearby Job Centre in the day and homeless people roaming the streets in the night. Premier Inn hotels pride themselves with guaranteeing quality sleep. This by offering comfy beds and quality sound isolation. The beds were comfortable. Nevertheless, the sound isolation wasn't up to the standard of the rest of Premier Inn hotels that I stayed in previously. Traffic noise, especially buses, found its way to leak into the rooms and Exhaust fans were noisy. Also, you could here footsteps coming from the corridor. This will be problematic if your neighbouring guests were party animals. The staff were cheerful and respectful. They didn't hesitate to offer help. I parked my hire car in the NCP car park to the rear of the hotel at a 50% discounted rate for being an Premier Inn guest. I enjoyed my stay in this Premier Inn. I hope they can upgrade the noise isolation. I recommend it for business guests who would like to have a place to do work in the area.

The hotel is ideally situated with just a short walk - or tram ride to both the City Hall and the main shopping areas. The hotel itself includes a resturant and bar, and lots of floors for accomodation. We only stayed one night, but it was clean, comfortable and cannot be faulted, other than a quick comment on the price - top end for Premier Inn outside of London. Still as a city centre hotel, its not massively overpriced, and the atmosphere is welcoming throughout.

I'm one of those who collects pillows as always wake up with a stiff or sore neck). Gym:is small but functional. I got up for an early run but one treadmill was out of order and the other in use so I settled for a little static bike ride (at least I moved a bit before breakfast!). Breakfast was very good for the hotel price range, I had some eggs, a piece of toast and banana with yogurt. There was much more selection than that though!, sweet pastries, more fruits, cereals, hot food and you could make your own waffles! (I thought that was cute but I resisted the urge... Not on holiday, couldn't justify it ). I didn't have dinner at the hotel as the selection was lacking. But I'm glad I walked to the sushi place around the corner instead. This stay has been fine, staff are great, friendly and helpful. But only thing was housekeeping didn't fill up the shower gel, for 2 days! Luckily I had a travel size bottle in my bag. The place was ideal for the buses as it's on a main route and is just a 10 minute bus ride into Sheffield city centre. To my amazement a room with breakfast on a Monday night was just £29, and that included a ticket for the gig. That must rate as the best value room I have ever known. Food is OK - I got a burger at the bar which wasn't that great but it wasn't expensive and did the job. The venue part is just the same room as the bar/eatery, so I actually watched the band soundcheck while having my supper, and then the place slowly moved into music venue mode. It isn't a big room so not much space on stage. That meant Icarus Line singer Joe spent some of the time in with the audience which added to the excitement of the show. The sound system is pretty good for such a place and it coped admirably with the enormous sound the band blasted out. As someone pointed out the place is loud and if your room is on the first floor - as mine was - you hear the music from downstairs. If you went to bed early and a band was on there'd be little chance of sleep as it's pretty loud. Staff are all very nice although service is a little casual. Bar prices about average. My room was pretty small but the bed was comfortable and the place served its purpose very well. The windows needed a clean and the place could do with some mild refurbishment. But it is what it is - a cheap place to stay after a night out in Sheffield. The cooked breakfast was pretty good too.... You won't find a better value place to stay in the centre of town for sure...

Welcome to the 40-watt hotel. Where you can check out anytime you like, but you can't find the door…read moreto ever leave. So last weekend I stayed in Wortley Hall hotel the night before a wedding. Unfortunately though the group were in great spirits there were a large number of things that just made this place unbearable. Firstly the decor: The hotel section especially is in dire need of a full redecoration. Peeling wallpaper, smelly communal spaces and tatty carpets were found throughout. In fact the only place which seemed to have been looked after was our room, however despite the competently hung wallpaper there were still a few crucially lacking features, most importantly a safe (which we were told there would be for the wedding rings, meaning keeping them in someone else's room overnight). The bathroom was a bizarre mess, simultaneously clean and dirty. The cheap lino stuck to our feet getting out of the laughably small showers with it's semi-functional door. It is only fair to say that the house-keeping had done a good job and everything was as immaculate as they could make it, so it's not laziness, just dilapidation and incompetence. Secondly the house-staff: While one of the bar staff and the breakfast staff were very nice and pleasant they struggle to make up for the remaining staff. Upon arrival we were just stared at blankly during check-in (not even a hello), during our evening in the bar the staff were slow and rude, one girl especially had a habit of announcing the prices while thrusting her hand over the bar and not making eye contact. "Five Ninety!" *thrust and look away bored*. Thirdly the smell: I can't comprehend exactly what is going on here but throughout the night we encountered a large variety of very unwelcome smells in the hotel. From a faint whiff of bowel movement in the corridors, to a mixture of urine and bleach in the bar, to a rather unfortunate vomit odour in one of the breakfast rooms. I can't tell if this is a product of recent nights of the long encrusted truth of what happens at your average Wortley Hall bash, but it was unpleasant to say the least. Lastly, the fixtures and fittings: This all culminates in the most bizarre feedback I could ever give to a hotel. The overwhelming impression that the entire building was appointed for the dwarves from Lord of the Rings. "What kind of a comment is that!?" I hear you ask. Well what else am I to think when all the mirrors are at a height of 4'6" and all the light bulbs are so dim I think they actually produced darkness? This decision to make all the rooms the Gimli suite may we be deliberate ("It was deliberate!") but that doesn't make it any less a bad idea. Also, I though I did know Dwarves were natural sprinters, I didn't know that they didn't like condiments with their breakfasts. Not a jot of brown sauce, a dollop of ketchup, or heaven forbid a little piccalilli was on offer. Better get some beanjuice while you're up! The most saving of graces here are the grounds. Lovely, well kept and well described. I would only add this, go see them before someone sets up a bouncy castle or a sumo ring in them, which appears to be a daily occurrence around 11:30.
