I rang twice in the week and couldn't get to speak to a salesperson. Finally got through on Wednesday to a different salesperson and asked them to mud guard the bike. Was told that's fine. The bike was sold to someone else by Friday pick up. Hollingsworth said they'd call me back within half an hour as they tried to source the bike elsewhere. I rang back four hours later and was told sales staff were on the floor. Do not shop here.

Given that Dublin is full of grimy little bike shops that mainly do repairs and have a small…read moreselection of bikes that you can hardly see because they're so tightly packed, whereas the bigger shops in the suburbs like Eurocycles or Cycle Superstore look like they're printed off a CAD-CAM app screen with no personal touch... this place ends up being one of the best bicycle shops in Dublin. The bikes are well displayed and easy to see and try out, there's a reasonably good selection, and the owner is very knowledgeable - which counts for a lot. Nor does she try to take over your life while giving you advice - unlike other bike shop owners I have encountered in this town!

As I was leaving the owner of the store saw fit to make a disparaging remark about the encounter to the customer he was serving. I went to get a quote and was met with a smug, ignorant attitude, which I have encountered from the same guy before. Obviously this man feels that it is acceptable to treat customers in this manner.

Two days the same person rang me back and said they couldn't fix my bike because he was told they don't have the room or the facilities to fix my bike, strange because it has bike repairs and bike service on the sign and it's not as if I was handing in a Boeing 747. I went up and asked him what they couldn't do it and he said because it was a different bike to what they sold they won't do it...it's a standard bike, nothing special, it just needed a nut and bolt. The range may be a little limited in store but I knew what I was after and it was in stock so I was one up. I am sure they would get you the model you wanted and let you try before buying. A little further research and I have yet to find anyone with a bad word to say about this shop. I have been led to believe that the mechanic is first class but I have no experience in that side. To be fair to them, once you get inside, tis a different story altogether. It's a fairly big warehouse space full of all types of wheels, and a separate section dedicated to cycle accessories and clothes. To be honest though, it's not that good. I don't know much about bikes, but the selection seemed to be heavily based on men's racers and mountain bikes. Not much in the way of women's or alternatives like fixies or hybrids. My main gripe though was that I must have been there for 15 mins, wandering round, wanting to part with my hard earned cash, but not knowing where to begin. In all that time, ain't no one came over and chatted with me or asked if they could help. In the end, I gave up and left. Customer service is key folks! You can have all the annoying jingle ads in the world to get people to your shop, but if you can't help em when they're there, well what's the point!!!

A real CAN'T DO ATTITUDE…read more Spent a few hundred euro in Hollingworths replacing my chainset, chain and cassette for a short bike trip. Unfortunately, they didn't finish the job properly as the gears weren't properly indexed. The chain kept popping off in the highest gear which was kind of dangerous as I'd be travelling at speed. Indexing gears properly can be a tricky thing to get right. The kind of thing people go to a bike shop to get a skilled bike mechanic to do. But it's a minimum expectation if that same bike shop has just been paid to replace the relevant parts. I had to go back more than once to try and get it resolved. When I came in at a quieter time (no other customers), as per the boss' suggestion, he refunded me EUR 50 and asked me not to come back. Not a chance I'll be back. He had no interest in trying to resolve the problem and he's the guy running the place. Thank you to his colleague, who clearly has more pride in his job, who fixed the brakes for me in 60 seconds. Avoid this place.

The Bike Institute's location is very convenient for me as I live in Ashtown and it's fairly easy to get there. If you search for the shop on google maps, it won't take you to the right place, which was one of the things I first struggled with. But I gave them a ring and they kindly directed me to the actual location. For starters, the staff there is very friendly and were incredibly helpful. It was my first time there and I didn't feel like they were trying to sell me anything I didn't need or were pushy in any way. As I only own a bike and literally ride it everywhere, I dropped it off first thing in the morning and asked if I could pick it up by the end of the day and the staff member confidently told me it'd be done before that. I was pleasantly surprised, as most bike shops don't have such a fast turnover! And that was a huuuuuge PLUS for me! However, just because it's a fast turnover, don't be fooled: the quality of the service was superb. My bike is smooth as butter now. So it's safe to say I am very happy with the service they provided! It should get me through the winter and once the winter is over, you can be sure I will drop by again to get the premium service for the summer days Thank you again to all the staff for a great experience! I'm very hesitant to let anyone work on my bike, so this review should showcase my satisfaction.

If you like dogs there's a lovely husky type shop-dog knocking around. I walked in off the street with a puncture on my old crock of a bike last month, and after a few more visits & consultations, yesterday I walked out with a smart new Giant hybrid, Kryptonite lock & helmet. I don't know if the dog hypnotised me or what, but my new bike is awesome & my commute to work is quicker & more enjoyable. Highly recommended whether you need a puncture repair, second-hand bike or (in my case) a hassle-free bike-to-work scheme package.
