As I'm not a driver (I have horrific tales of the days when I was learning, trust me), I'm not really a regular patron of any car parts and bits and bobs kind of stores. But I do cycle, and this is where Halford's part comes in. They have a really great range of bicycles and gear, and it's all at acceptable prices. In particular, their range of helmets and safety gear is unsurpassable by most other shops. However, as quite often seems to be the case, the staff are somewhat wanting. At this branch in particular, the staff all seemed to have a great amount of difficultly even talking to me. Even after I'd approached them in the first place. But to be fair, in the end they did prove to me that they knew their stuff; it's just that it was like trying to get blood from a stone. I have been into 2 Halfords and both of them have been brilliant. Not only are they well stocked but the staff have been very helpful. Last summer I bought a cheap montain bike for £99 and at the time the shop assistant advised me to get a bike that was a little more expensive. I cynically thought, "you just want some more commission mate". A week later I realised the guy in the shop might have been right as it wasn't the easiest bike to ride. So I went back to the shop and approached the guy who begrudingly sold me the cheap one. With "a told you so" look he offered to part exchange my bike for a newer better bike at the website price (10% discount) for exactly the price I'd bought it for - even though I'd ridden it on and off for a week. I look after my cousins baby alot so I decided to buy myself a car seat. I looked online for the one I wanted and Halfords seemed to be the cheapest of nearby stockists. I headed down to the Halfords on Newport road and spoke with a guy trained in the car seat field. I already new which one I wanted but he still very kindly went through the specifications of the other seats they sold. I stuck with my original choice and headed to the counter. The scanned the seat and to my surprise the price was higher than I had seen it advertised for online. The cashier told me that instore prices where higher than those advertised on the internet. This put my nose out of joint so I spoke with a manager who explained that if i order it online for an instore pick up I would be able to benefit from the website offer........... So thats what I did. I got straight on the Iphone and ordered the seat to be picked up at the store I was standing in. They received the order form and sold me the car seat for the cheaper price. Although I was happy that I got the discount I was a little peeved that it took so much messing around to be able to make it happen. Seems a bit of a waste of time if you ask me! read more

Located at a prime spot on Newport road just off of the M4 corridor it lends itself to being the most widely used Halfords store in the area. Even that this is the case it is one of the shabby ones that I have been too, there is frequently parts out of stock and the staff can sometime either be over powering and hassling you, or they can blatantly see that you need help but just walk on past without a care in the world. I will in future travel the extra distance and visit the Penarth road store. There is allot this store could do to better itself. Background - bought a YUASA 5 year warranty battery locally in Wiltshire from Halfords last year which failed to start the vehicle in the M4 services near Newport (we were going on holiday). Push started vehicle and drove to Newport Halfords branch at 7.00 pm on a Friday. Vehicle was tested by the Halfords staff and they agreed the battery had failed. Not having the receipt with me, I was expecting to have to pay for a replacement and then have to fight to get refunded at by local branch on our holiday return. But no, the manager Jamie used manager's discretion and supplied a new replacement which is working perfectly now. Well done Halfords - most impressed with the customer service. On 9th November I visited Halford's in Newport Road to buy some spray paint. I was assisted by an exceptionally helpful young man called Bas. He explained that I needed a code to match the colour to my car and how I could obtain this. While I was there I asked him how I could fit a new glass complete with the backing on one of my wing mirrors. He came out to look at the part and the car and told me what I needed to do. Better than this, he offered to do it for me, which he did very efficiently. I was absolutely delighted . What's more, he then found the paint code on the driver's door and searched for some time for the required paint in store. Unfortunately it was out of stock. He wrote down the colour and told me how I could find it on line. You don't often get such excellent service these days and I was more than very impressed by Bas's assistance. So much so that I have been driven to write this big thank-you. I still can't find the paint, though! read more
