I always seem to have a car crises just before epic journeys - this time my headlight was broken, it was just before Christmas, I needed to do the relatives tour, mostly in the dark.
I called Halfords up in Ponty and told them of my plight. He said to bring the car up that afternoon at 1. I did so. They had no record of my appointment. Nevertheless they found the right bulb and sent a lad out to the car to put it in. He hummed an ha-ed and poked and prodded (the car, not me) and declared he couldn't do it. I smiled my middle-aged-and-desperate smile and asked if there was someone else who might be more adept? He caved and got his mate around. In the end the mate, with the aid of pictures taken deep in the bowels of my engine on his mobile phone, fitted the bulb. Yay. Let there be light. read more
