Bookstores are my financial kryptonite. This HPB was well organized and pretty clean. It looked and felt just like every other Half Price Books I have ever been to, which is a familiar comfort. Probably my favorite HPB locations! It's well spread out and tons of options. I had a hard time finding the book I needed and the staff were helpful to locate it. They have plenty of reusable bags and used Disney movies. I have not tried selling at this location but there is a space on the side where you can quickly go in and sell. Highly recommend! read more

I always like going into Half Price Books and shopping. I don't read a lot anymore but I like to take a look at the magazines and check to see if they have any I like. I like art, journaling, and any older magazines that I can use to collage with. I usually look through the art section, cooking section, and the sale section. They also have calendars available. The last time I was in I found some art journal magazines that are $25 new for just a few bucks, you cannot beat that. They also buy books and magazines so if you have any to sell they always have someone at the counter to check them in and then they call your name over the intercom when the have an offer for you. They have record albums and some games as well. Stop in and take a look because you never know what you will find. read more

I absolutely love books, so HPB is a no brainer. I brought like a hundred or so books and they gave me WAYYYY more than I thought I would get from them. As always they have wonderful prices on books, but what shocked me was how cheap the used games were. The only down side to was that when I sold them my books they called my old married name, so that was unpleasant. read more

I give Half Price Books a 3 star because there not open long enough. It's not that hard to sell books and dvds. Half Priced Books Has an obligation to the people to have have longer store hours. I ordered a book, got charged for it and got a tracking number. Then they sold it to someone else. How is it possible to charge someone and then sell it to someone else? Very poor business practice. When I asked them if they could then put me on a waiting list, they said they had no way of doing that. I guess they don't own a pencil and a piece of paper. The said they were sorry. I've just returned home from selling brand new copies of mulitiple (about 10) current edition texbooks, along with current edition computer programming/IT books (about 15) to HPB. The value estimate on these books is app. $450. Their offer to me was only $40.06 for all of the books!! So clearly they do not pay a fair price. In fact, they offer an insultingly low price. If you have books to sell, do yourself a favor and GO ELSEWHERE!!! read more

Brought in 40 some books to sell. All in fantastic condition and only got $19.03. You call that an offer? Don't even bother to bring your books in expecting to get more than that. Sell them somewhere else. The girl that was evaluating my items was really snobbish as well. When id asked her if that was really all they could offer she got snotty with me. I come here often to resell my used books, movies, magazines, puzzles etc. I set up an account before, and so so easy to keep coming back to see your stuff. This is the best way I found to get rid of stuff rather than doing yard sale where you don't get your money's worth setting up. This place is well organized, the workers seemed to be efficient helping costumers and keeping the clutter that costumers created. I like it that they chairs and reading areas set up. You can come here to browse and find things interesting such as travel guides, music sheets, toys, etc. I like that the place has sectioned areas on their own categories such as travel, sports, hobbies, science, etc.. This makes it easier to find something you're looking for or interested in. Check out this place, you might something that makes your reminisce the past or your childhood. read more

A totally decent Half Price Books location. Great selections of used books, and CDs, and records, and DVDs, amongst other things. Like other Half Price Books locations their prices for their newer(ish) merchandise is a bit steep, but they have plenty of items on sale for next to nothing and there is always something you can find amongst them. The staff here is nice, friendly, and helpful. They seem to really enjoy working here, and that always makes a shopping experience nicer..when you're dealing with a happy staff. Never tried to sell anything to Half Price Books..but I've heard the horror stories of how little they offer for things..so I probably never will attempt to. Wouldn't want it to affect my feelings for the stores because I do really enjoy shopping at them. read more

This is my happy place. I could walk around for hours. I love this place. They always have a great selection.

You know I buy a lot of books from thrift books where most books "ARE" half price or better. The prices at this store are pretty high. Trying to sell to them is a joke. I took what I probably paid $100 for at Thrift Books for a $3.99 offer at HPB. The offer amount is ridiculous especially compared to the quality and price of what they have on the shelves. Why did it take me so long to finally go in here? I came in on a recommendation from a friend. When I first pulled in the lot, I took it as a good sign that it looked fairly busy even on a very rainy day. The store was really well-staffed with non-pushy employees. I didn't find what I came in for, but took my time browsing through the large selection, determined not to leave empty-handed. I decided on a paperback that cost a whole $6.48. If you've read any of my other reviews, you know I'm a big fan of email sign-up deals, so when I found this store has one, I was smitten. As I was leaving, I saw something I had missed earlier: a little table by the door with a coffee and creamer station set up. How cute is that?! read more

Loveeee this store! It's my favorite place to pick up DVDs for my film collection, vinyl records, and obviously books! I love just coming in and browsing sometimes too, because they are always getting new stuff. All the books are always neatly organized and the store is very clean with a good atmosphere. Have stopped in twice to this location and both times had no service at all. While waiting at the counter for some assistance the one clerk was too busy talking with another lady about the upcoming book sale at some high school. I was happy to see another clerk approach the counter but she just went to the computer, looked right at me, and then turned around and left. At this point there were 3 other customers waiting in line to make a purchase, and I still just had a quick question. Finally another clerk came up and he said to the lady at the end of the line---Miss I can help you over here leaving the rest of us who had been waiting the longest to continue to wait. Left and went upto Barnes and Nobles--at least there they have someone able to answer a simple question. read more

For years I went to the Half Price up by Tri-County Mall, and while I loved it for its cozy size and friendly employees, driving half an hour to get there was something of a pain in the ass, so trips were pretty infrequent. If I had a pile of books to sell I had to sit on them for six months. Then I spotted the newer, much larger Half Price while heading down Houston one day, and I rejoiced. The place is exactly what I had hoped it would be--the same prices and friendly bookish people at the register, only Wal Mart sized. Here's the deal for the buyer: tons and tons of books, including just about anything you'd want to find, be it literature, romance, psychology, cooking, or film. DVDs and CDs abound, as well, though in not quite the same selection. Everything, and this is not the shameless sales pitch it sounds like, is priced so low you won't believe it. I've bought for-realsies books there, books I had been looking to buy anyway, for three bucks. But then I may just like crappy books. Here's the deal for the seller: You bring in your pile and set it on a desk at the back. You browse around for ten minutes until they call your name over the intercom. You come back and they give you their offer, which will always be disappointingly low, but then how else would this place turn a profit? If you accept, they take the books and give you a receipt, which you turn in to the front register for your cash. Half Price virtually eliminates the need to go to a Barnes and Noble or Borders, unless you want a brand new release or you want to drink a five dollar latte while you read (and you can't just wait until you get to the Starbucks on Mall Road). I'm patient in both regards, so this is the only book store in which you'll ever find me. read more

My wife and myself consider ourselves pretty nerdy in the sense that we'd rather spend a weekend night at a bookstore than at a bar. If there was ever the equivalent of Party Source for the literati, this is it! The books are reasonaby priced although I'm pretty sure they base their prices off of the manufacturer's suggested retail price rather than what it will actually sell for at a Barnes & Noble. But who's complaining? Not me!! You have to keep me out of the clearance section: I can walk out of there with at least 5 or 6 books each and everytime. Plus, the selection of kid's books keeps my daughter occupied for hours. The staff is alway courteous and willing to help. The CD and DVD selection is pretty darn good as well! I know I'm preaching to the choir with those who will read this review, but isn't it always nice to have the good word reinforced from time to time? read more

Great place to sell your used books and get some quick cash. This Half Price Books is a good size and has a great selection of current fiction/non-fiction with a mix of older stuff. The clearance section is great - last time I was there, there were even some iPad sleeves for $2.00! Don't expect to get a ton of money for your books, but it is a good choice if you have a lot of books to unload and a good number are current or newish fiction/non-fiction. read more

I love this place. If you love to read and haven't already switched over to buying only e-books, then what could be better than buying half priced books? They have a very wide selection, and a lot of books they have more than one copy of. I like to only buy books that look new, so I look through them and pick the most perfect one. All of the books are at least half price of what it says on the back. Sometimes they have sales, and they always have clearance making it an even better deal than half off. They also sell Cd's and movies, not a very big selection, but they do have some. They also buy used books and such. I've never sold anything so I'm not sure how much they pay, but since they sell them for so cheap, I'm sure it's not that much. read more

I'm thrilled to have a Half Price location within a mile of my home. Makes for an easy way to drop mass amounts of cash when I can't think of anything else to do but go buy books that end up on my never-ending "to read" list! Seriously, I'm so happy about it--really. My husband and I used to compile our lists of things we wanted to read and then head up to Kenwood biannually for a major book purchase. Usually around Christmas (with Christmas money!) and then the summer. But now, it's right in our own back yard. The staff always seems helpful--well, the guys, anyway. And the selection is great in the genre's I'm typically looking--especially cooking, gardening and non-fiction. Ample enough Jamie Oliver cookbooks to keep me going back each payday! read more

I LOVE when the employees of a place are so much like its customers. It is clear to see that all the people who work here truly love books as much as Wifey does. Her collection keeps growing and the Half Price Books team is unitedly working toward making my home look more like a library, including suggesting the addition of extra bookshelves from Ikea. Having been to every other Half Price Books in the Cincinnati area numerous times, a trip to the Florence location has been long overdue, and even though it is the farthest from me in terms of distance, it was well worth the journey it took to get there. If you have been to a Half Price Books, you should know what to expect here, but for those who haven't, they are a chain that buys and sells all kinds of different used media, such as books (obviously), DVDs, CDs, tapes, and records. Like other HPB, the Florence location was also very clean and well staffed by friendly, smiling, employees who seemed happy to offer their assistance. Be sure to check out the various clearance sections throughout the store on your visit! You can often times find some really good stuff stashed away in here on the cheap. read more

For the last 7 years I have been a loyal Half Price Books customer and frequent about 20 different locations in California, Texas, Indiana, Ohio and Kentucky. This location happens to be located in my home town. Once I found them I stopped going to Borders, hummm? I can spend an hour at a time in the store and I love to troll the vintage books to find out of print and hard to find Sci-Fi. That said so do other people which can make it hard to find a specific book(s). There is a lot of stuff in a Half Price Books that aren't books; CD's, Albums, DVD's, Games, stationary, calenders, etc. This can become distracting and have an effect on your wallet when its time to pay. You will get better money on Craig's List or Ebay for high value items you want to sell, but HPB's is a great place to unload tonnage. If you have never visited a Half Price Books, the location in Florence is one of the better ones and can become highly addictive. read more

I stopped into Half Price Books a couple of weeks ago for the first time to sell a bunch of used books. While the money I got for the books wasn't great (I could've done much better if I had sold the books on Amazon or Ebay), the store itself was REALLY impressive. It's clean and the books that are on the shelves have great variety and most of them are in great shape. My wife and I went back there to do much of our Christmas shopping and we were able to find great deals...Books that appeared to be brand new that were listed for $15 that we were able to buy for less than $5. My wife was a little concerned that it was going to be like a gigantic book Goodwill, but it's more like Barnes and Noble with Goodwill prices...a combo that can't be beat! read more

I love this store! Especially when they have $1 dvds... You can pick up some good computer games for cheapola and cds too... you just have to look... Pretty much exactly what you would expect from the store title. Great place to spend a lot of time, but not a lot of money. Paperback novels are literally 1/2 price off the cover price, and other books are always much less than off the shelf at other stores. However, NEVER, ever bring your books, CD's, DVD's or anything else here to sell them back. You will receive pennies on the dollar. You are much better off saving them for a yard-sale or donating to the Library (you will feel better about donating them, than the meager $ you will get at the buy-back counter). I have seen customers come in with boxes and boxes of books and the maximum offer I have ever heard or seen or received was never in double digits (never over $9.99). I have even sold books to them that they currently have on the shelf, and they offer about 5-10 percent of what they sell them for. read more

The concept of this store is great.... I don't really know why I was being books from the regular bookstores before.... Literally books are 50% the normal price! I've always found every single been that I've looked for at this location... I would pick this location over the Kenwood store because I feel like they are better organized and there are always people around asking to help. I was a longtime buyer and seller of half price books in Florence. When I went in there the last time, I was told I would have to provide a receipt for everything I would bring in from now on from books to . Great selection of almost anything you can imagine. Best thing is their prices. I went for the first time last week and could not believe they had books that cheap. I ended up buying a Chinese language CD/book set for $8. Great store, I'll definitely be going back. I should add that just because most books are used doesn't mean they are low quality.
