when my sister originally brought me here, I thought she was trying to take me out because it is out in the middle of nowhere! this is a cute little hidden gem away from the public and yes, you might have to dig for some really good vines, but everything is extremely affordable and I needed to finish collections of old dystopian and there was also a huge children's section as well doesn't always have the newest books, but you can always find something ! I've heard about this for awhile but when I realized we were only a couple of miles away, I knew it was time. We had to go check out the legend of a massive warehouse of books hidden inside a deceptively industrial area. The entrance and parking lot for Dollar Book Swap are located in the back of the warehouse block they are in, and there are two ways to access the back. One "road" if one shall loosely call it that, is gravely and filled with massive potholes making for an adventurous ride. The road on the other side of the building also gets you to the same place... but it's paved and in good condition... choose your own adventure! Then it's through a door that opens up into... a massive warehouse space. Keep going and then you'll see them. Books. Everywhere. Shelves, giant boxes, display areas, library carts.... all full of books. There is also a DVD section. Smaller rooms open up off of the spaces, one with children's books, another a mystery/suspense room with, fittingly, a taped outline on the floor. There's even a corner space with food items. The vast majority of books are $1.25, with some exceptions, like the step into reading style books 2 for $1.25 or the bags of children's books you can fill for $10 a bag. The selection is a mix of new and used, and as one might expect, it just depends on what they have in stock at the time of your visit. It's a fun adventure to comb the shelves. Check all the nooks and crannies... there's a "book cave" in another corner. Service was friendly and efficient to check out. Fun place to explore if you're in the area. read more

This place is really cool! They have large boxes full of books available, with isles upon isles of books as well. All books were $1.25 (some were BOGO free) with a small as seen on TikTok section, though the section didn't seem updated. However, there was PLENTY of a selection of both paper & hard back books and a great selection for kids and children. It is in a warehouse that has a handful of large fans keeping it cool. We had a hard time finding newer books that have recently been published, but this location is great for older books and classics. There were large selections for authors such as Lee Child, Sue Grafton, James Patterson, etc. It is definitely worth checking out! read more

What an overwhelming number and assortment of books for anyone and everyone! The exterior of the building is very run down and the parking lot driveway was full of potholes... But inside the building, things were very organized and well labeled. There was the opportunity to buy a bag of children's books for $10... I mean, as a fellow book lover and avid reader... when you said $1.25 books, how can you resist! We made a road trip from Chicago to Dayton and it was so much fun. It was just a few hours, and when we pulled up it looks like nothing but a warehouse on the outside but when you go inside it it's a book lover's paradise. The warehouse has pallets and pallets of books but then gets sorted into shelves and shelves of different categories. They even have a book tok shelf they gets cleared out often & replenished just as often too. You'll also find classic books and encyclopedias, cookbooks and a whole children's section. To the right you'll find movies, audiobooks, and a back room with overstock bins for you to dig through. Along with a room where you fill a bag of children's books for a set price. In that same room are all of the mass media copies of books. One could spend hours and hours in there and find so many hidden gems. I gave myself 1 hour and I walked out with 12 books for myself & a whole bunch to donate to my friend's classroom. Which by the way they have a program where they donate books to classrooms! Lots and lots of new and older books to purchase for $1.25 Everything is clearly labeled and organized so it is easy to find the genre you are looking for. Staff were friendly and checkout was quick and easy. The ONLY drawback was that we went in the summer and it was HOT in there - didn't even cross my mind that it would be that way so it was a surprise. A book lover's paradise. This place has been on our bucket list for over a year. We prepped for our trip here by taking a huge box of books & DVDs we no longer want to exchange for store credit (you can do this!). That's the first thing we did when we arrived. They gave us a total for our items and we went about to go book hunting. The books are organized by category and fiction/nonfiction. And some books are still on pallets that you have to sort through, so this is the part where you might spend more time. Everything in the store is $1 - all books, DVDs, CDs, audiobooks, records, etc. The merchandise that they sell like t-shirts, mugs, gift sets, etc is priced as is. There are a TON of children's books including board books and holiday books, etc., and lots of fiction books for adults. There isn't as much non-fiction as I had hoped so I didn't find any of the books I was in search of. We also didn't find any video games in the store, so they may not have had any when we were there or these are grabbed really fast. We did find a good amount of books among the six of us in my family. There are comics and young adults books as well if you have teens. And sections organized by popular authors as well. So if you are a fiction reader, you'll find plenty of books and series. You'll want to plan a few hours for your trip here. read more

I randomly stumbled upon this hidden gem in downtown Dayton. This is a great used book store that has a huge selection to choose from. The books are well organized and the best part of it all is that they are only for a whopping $1! They have many children's books that are bundled into a group of 10 that are for $5. There is also an area where you can stuff as many children's books as you can into a plastic bag for $10. In this store, you will find an enormous collection of children's books, fiction/nonfiction, dvds, audio books, cds, and games for your various consoles. You have to be willing to do a little bit of searching for books but for $1, you can't complain or beat the price! This is perfect for any teacher who is starting their classroom library! I was so thrilled to pick up some more Dr. Seuss books for my classroom library collection. I had to resist getting some more! They also have volunteering opportunities throughout the week and if you wanted to volunteer for a 3 hour shift, you will be able to earn a $30 book credit to use throughout the store. Love this place, we live about hour from Dayton but a couple times a year we make a trip over and always stop here. A must for a book lover. Plenty of selection and super $1 pricing. I know the place looks scary from the out side but dont let that bother you. The staff has always been super friendly and seem like they love their jobs. On a sad note they have up signs that in March ( of 2018) they are drastically cutting back the hours they are open, Booo Hisss. Too bad becaue every time I have been there on a Sunday they have been busy. I work six days a week plus add the hour drive it will be hard for me to get there. This place is a hidden gen. I go here frequently and always look forward to it! It's a huge warehouse full of used books for only $1 each! My 3 year old son really enjoy going here too! He LOVES books and has me read him numerous books before nap and bedtime. I like switching his books out often, so this place is awesome for trading them in for store credit to get new ones. I'll usually take in 10 or more of our books to swap each time we go. They always give me fair store credit for what I bring in. I typically walk out of there not having to pay anything, because of their awesome program! They do a good job at keeping the books organized by category and alphabetical order by author last name. My son loves all of the kids books they have and the little tables available for kids to sit at. The only downside is that they're only open 2 days a week. read more
