You can seem them being made fresh in the back, and the staff seem like they're happy which is always a great sign. I think the traditional ones are more worth it than the open faced ones, but you can't go wrong with most things on the menu. It's more of a grab and go type place, and the food usually comes out pretty fast. Only complaint is I've noticed the serving sizes are slowly getting smaller, but that seems to be the trend everywhere. Worth a stop if you're in the area. read more

I've been wanting to visit this popular bakery for a while but never found myself in the area until today. I asked a friend what I should get and he recommended the chorizo empanada and guava dessert. Unfortunately, at around noon, most of the desserts were not in stock, including the guava dessert, but I was able to get a chorizo empanada as well as one Columbiana empanada. I got these to-go to eat later at home. There was a bit of a wait, as it was lunchtime and likely filled with busy medical professionals coming from Metro Health across the street. The inside kind of reminds me of a dive bar - messy, with very busy staff. So my empanadas were $3.50 each and were smaller than I would expect for that price. They were also VERY greasy! My to-go container was absolutely soaked with grease. I did enjoy the taste of the empanadas although I couldn't tell which one was which. One supposedly had cilantro and onions but I couldn't tell. I waited about 7 months to come to this place and it was SO worth it! This place is such a whole in the wall. There is side parking and it's right across a brand new MetroHealth hospital. I got the cheese and Vegetable empanada (which came with a sweet and sour sauce). It was like a spring roll with an avocado. I got a couple sauces, and I liked the Avocado Aji and the chipotle dressing. It was so good, I cannot wait to go back! The inside is kinda small and I took it to go. My sister told me about this place and I was so excited to try it out. My friend and I went in this morning to grab some stuff. I ended up getting the beef empanada and a chicken empanada as well as a strawberry shortcake type dessert. Haven't tried that yet but the empanadas were really good. My friends daughter couldn't find anything that she wanted so she got French fries. I had to try one since they smelled so good. They were good and very fresh. I would recommend trying it out. I can't believe I'm writing this with only two stars... breaks my heart. I love this place the staff is always nice and the food is amazing... usually. A friend had been having a rough week so we decided to pick this up after his doctors appt. The meat was light in each item we got and seemed smaller. His fries weren't crispy, my rice was dry and a little undercooked and to make it worse my columbina had something hard in it I'm assuming gristle... if I got back I won't ever be able to eat a Columbiana again. To begin, one of my favorite things is their tres leches cake. They have a huge variety! My favorite is the strawberry or the pineapple coconut! I also think their dulce de leche cupcakes are the best! So good! Their empanadas are amazing as well! They're packed full of yummy ingredients and so tasty! I've never tried an empanada before until I came to half moon, and I will only ever eat them from half moon for here on out! As a vegetarian, I wasn't sure what my options I'd be getting but there were two wildly different ones on the menu that were absolutely AMAZING. You enter half moon, you are greeted so kindly, you order, and like 5 bakers pop out of no where and start absolutely slinging empanadas at lightning speed. Located just a stone's throw from the outpatient clinics and conveniently close to Highway 71, this storefront is deceptively small for the growing and fiercely loyal customer base. You can stuff yourself with delicious blends of crispy shell, juicy chicken, and spunky salsa for minimal strain on your wallet. You'll find limited street parking on W 25th directly in front of the shop, but it's pretty easy to find a spot on one of the side residential streets to conduct business here. My go to choices are the Chicken Argentina Empanada and Crispy Pork Lettuce Wraps. You can't beat the balance of flavor, texture, and portion sizes of the lettuce wraps - but don't attempt to do any critical thinking through the food coma. I was a little disappointed by the Chorizo Empanada as it was more sauce than ground meat, but would happily eat their Asian and Pepperoni Pizza Empanadas all day too. The actual shop is very cute and renovated, with a fair bit of retail space devoted to pastries. I've only sampled the Quesitos and cupcakes but both were infused with the same quality and rich flavor of their savory offerings. Even before the COVID-times, most business was designed for takeaway and there's no seating to dine inside at present. I recommend calling ahead to place your order and picking up to minimize potential time spent with others also ordering food, but it's hard to browse the desserts that way. A small cozy bakery located on a corner across from the hospital, Half Moon Bakery is very easy to miss if you're not paying attention. In fact, my girlfriend worked at the hospital for years and never knew it existed. The establishment is family owned, to the point a kid might be taking your order. But, don't panic. They know what they are doing and can probably slang an empanada better than your granny. Consistency is on point. They are awesome. I go here all the time and have never been let down. The food is always fresh. Each order feels like it's made individually with love. Sometimes their crowded but it's always worth the wait. Usually it's pretty fast and the prices are relatively cheap. $2-3 a piece. Higher for fries and salad. Recommend 2-3 for female and 3-5 for male depending how you eat to consider it a full meal but they are very filling. They have plenty of options to serve whatever your preference is. I have tried everything and I would have to say Beef is our favorite but you can't go wrong with any of them. I like the sauces as well because I am a sauce guy but you could easily do without. One morning as was heading back to work I noticed the signage and was immediately enthused with intrigue. Stopped for the first time and had a Cuban sandwich with fries and tried 3 empanadas Chicken, Columbiano, Chorizo They advised us they don't have any vegetables for making sandwiches. Cuban they can make. So turned out NO vegetables also means no onions tomatoes cilantro etc.. in the empanadas which they failed to mention. Chorizo empanada was all cheese no chorizo. The two other empanadas had only dry chicken in them. Sauces came in two 1/2 ounce thimble size containers. Empanadas were very small in size and grease. Cuban had one thin slice of roast pork and one slice of ham. Pickle slices are thicker than pork and ham together. Bread was good. Fries were cold even though we waited 20 minutes for our food. As many have mentioned the bakery cases were almost completely empty. Nothing special here, so many other great Empanadas options available. No understanding how you don't have vegetables for making your food at noon on a Monday. read more

The location is a bit odd.... Don't let it fool you. When you step inside , it's a different experience. The staff is very friendly. The inside is clean , the kitchen is clean. The menu is not huge , but what the have is mastered to amazing great flavors. I dare to say - thee best tasting empanadas in all Cleveland. (They're a bit small for my style , but nevertheless, really savory. The prices are legit- sandwiches come with fries and they are big sandwiches. Totally worth it!!!! Very under rated place.... Saw a post about this place in one of my foodie FB groups and I was like "yeah, imma need to get me some of that". Overall I like this place and would definitely check them out again! I easily found a parking space in their little lot, staff was friendly and patient, food was tasty. Honestly, there is a new place in Parma that sells empanadas as well and Half Moon is sooooooo much better. Empanadas: *Chicken Taco $3 - Tasty empanada taco hybrid. Make sure to add the green salsa. *Beef Argentina $3 - Minus the sliced tomatoes this was good. I liked the garlic aioli on it. *4 cheese $2 - Way better than a fried cheese stick. *Veggie $2.50 - Served with sweet chili sauce. Not bad, but I'll pass on the veggies next time. *Beef $2 - Simple but good especially dipped in the tomato sauce. Outside of empanadas they also have sandwiches, salads, a special of the day (check their FB), a soup, and desserts: *Cuban with fries $8.75 - Only had a couple bites of this hearty sandwich so far. Good, but I think the thick slice of pork was a bit dry. I would add more pickles and mustard. Loved the fresh cut fries that come with it. *Strawberry Tres leches $4.49 - A perfect sweet treat that is still fresh and light. Looking forward to eating more of it later. No issues with the food being too greasy or too salty. I really enjoyed that they had several sauces to dip or cover things in (I'm definitely a saucy kind of lady!). Note that a side of the garlic aioli is 50¢ extra. Also, there is a counter you can sit at and eat if you would like, but this is mostly a take-out place.
