This review is actually for the park and the nearby pillbox trail. The park is clean and the…read moretrailhead is across the street of the restroom...you can't miss the opening. The trail is well kept, they have the much needed preventive erosion steps. These steps are great for the preservation of the trail as well as for those with "junk" shoes (lol). Sometimes the trail is a little muddy, with noticeable mosquitoes swarming around any uncovered/unprotected skin. Overall, the trail is easy/novice. There is an incline but not too difficult. You can rest if you need a breather. I have done this trail several times, with friends and with just my children. My kids run up the hill and leave me behind. There is a picnic table (with a nice view of the north shore and Kaena point) to the left when you reach the peak of the hill. Then you make your way through a short stroll through the Iron wood forest. Soon, you make your way to the first pillbox. Most people stop here and enjoy the graffiti art and the view. Its a nice view and relaxing spot. You can proceed further into the trail---go down after the pillbox and keep going to you come to the next pillbox. You can continue but I don't recommend it if you are not properly prepared. Come with a bottle of water, mosquito spray, shoes with descent traction, a camera and a bag for your rubbish to take out if you eat on this short trail. Take lots of photos, leave a very small to no footprint. Aloha and Enjoy.

Mrs. Tiare, Mrs. Ru and Mrs Rowena is a great example of what it means to be women of God walking in faith. I was so blessed to hear conversations between my children and the teachers how the teachers used my child's mistakes and turned it into a positive learning moment that encouraged love through an experience that when they left the school for the day they were happy, safe and filled with love from the teachers never felt like they were bad. The teachers always taught love through teaching and encouraging the child to be their true self. The academic's that the school teaches is awesome the recognition and routine that my children attended comes home and shares the many things that they have learned makes me feel confident in the school that my children attended. The knowledge they have gained just blesses me as a parent and how they continue to teach in so many ways to grab the attention of each and every child that is in their classroom. The spiritual part of this is school is amazing how it is the core of each teacher and child that attends and as staff show the meaning of God's love through how they speak, dress and how they make each parent feel valued and important. St. Michael's school thank you for making a lasting impact on my family and how this school will always have a special place in my heart! So my son has only been going here for a few weeks now and we have run into quite a few problems…read morewith the health room lady for some reason she really takes the time out of her day to do things like call everyone on my sons "EMERGENCY" contact to ask why he isn't at school and when me or my husband doesn't answer she leaves passively threatening voice mails saying she's going to contact his commanding officer. She calls multiple times a day even when my son isn't at school so I know there is no type of emergency that she would need to contact me about at this point I'm genuinely curious if I need to take legal action or simply report her but in all honesty I've never ran into such a situation in any school I've dealt with. The school itself is great but that lady is definitely not.

They are a private school (only K-8th), but I have found that their tuition is lower compared to others on the island. They also give a military discount. As someone who has worked in education, I was very skeptical about the school. But our kids have been happy- they want to be in school, and that means everything to me. They are a microschool, so they combine classes (which is what I was mainly skeptical of). But I have seen that the kids all work well together, and the teachers are super organized in helping students at their level. So, if you are considering transitioning from homeschool to a traditional school (or just wanting a school that focuses on the whole child) - consider Ho'ala.

There's designated areas if you want to park and walk your child to their classrooms. The parking staff is very attentive. Other than picking up the kids and dropping off the kids I'm usually here for any little type of assembly or performance the kids have the only downfall to this school is the parking. For a small school there are lots of parents. The latest activity that I attended here at the school was mayday. Parking was chaotic I went super early to make sure I got a parking spot and walked home. Upon walking back I noticed that the police were there to give tickets. The school however did make an announcement over the PA system about moving or you would be ticketed if parking in any unmarked parking stall. I understand you have to move but for may day I don't understand why the police were there. It was a day to enjoy the kids but at the same time now you have to worry about your car. There was some opening on the field where they should utilize for parking so maybe in the future that should happen.

I appreciate how they speak Hawaiian every day in their morning protocol. All the Kumu give a 110%. The principal, Amanda Fung, truly cares about the students and is easy to reach and communicate with. They have after school clubs and my kids have learned how to knit, sew and dance hula. We also love the community events they have like the trunk or treat and spring carnival. We invite our neighbors and family friends to join in on the fun. They also have a great broadcast club where the keiki work with Olelo. I'm very thankful to have this charter school, the only one in central O'ahu, so close to my home. I have four kids and hope my other two can attend when they are in elementary school.

Kamalani has the feel of a private school and their teachers and staff strive to enrich my child's education and development. Led by principal Amanda Fung, the school prides itself on creating opportunities and partnerships in the community designed to benefit our students and staff. Although I live in Kapolei, taking the daily trio to Kamalani Academy it's a small price to pay to make sure my son gets an advantage in his education and his mentality for when he becomes an adult committed to doing good in his community. The pandemic pushed us to explore new education options for a child and we are so grateful to have found this school where individuals work hard to raise up our students in the true spirit of aloha. Why do I feel like an infomercial? ) I swear teachers never sleep, cause updates are between 10pm and 5am. Thank a teacher cause they help shape the future better then some parents. After reading this, I should attend the upcoming PTA meeting. Weekly as parents, our son get a homework assignment sheets. For us Navy folk, very similar to the POW for homework. There is also a monthly reminder/upcoming events sheet. I like this idea cause it helps me plan for events I would like to attend, in this case the last Ohana Fair. This event is an annual fair held on school grounds. It's a great time for kids and for parents to socialize with other parents. The teachers are out and about but mostly concentrating on running the booth. You don't come here for the food, you come for the stories and smiles. TIP: If you go to the annual Fair, parking is limited. Walk or ride a bike to the place. And if you drive, slow down for the small keikis because we know they like to run out between parked cars. Although parking lot is one-way, it provides good (and safer) traffic flow and less school congestion. A/C buildings (except cafeteria), ample industrial bike racks in different areas, water fountain with bottle-filling station, all aspects of the school are very clean and well-maintained. I have zero complaints about their education system either. My son hasn't struggled (to the point of exhaustion) and fight me on homework. His teacher is always available to provide extra help should he need it. Lots of field trips allows students to gain knowledge outside of school property and create more fun memories.
