I received "Tuck Everlasting" tickets to the new Hale Centre Theatre for Mother's Day. So excited to check out the theatre. I love the book, and after being disappointed in the movie, wondered how the musical adaptation would be. It was glorious! The writing, music, and talent were a great interpretation of the story. Costume, sets, and choreography were beautiful additions and kept true to the setting. A time sequence of several decades was carried through hair, costume, music, and dance! Loved that part! A big appreciation for the quality of the production. The audio was spot on, allowing ever syllable to be heard, when spoken or sang. The musicians were live ABOVE on the catwalk, which we loved! The snack stand and unbelievable chandeliers and fireplace of the theatre, just added to our fun! read more

Every show I've been to has been AMAZING! My favorites are the musicals. The actors and actresses are always so talented!

Saw Newsies today with the MWF/Sat Matinee cast and was pleasantly surprised. I've been to many productions at HCT but this was by far the best. Hands down. The male lead was amazing and I hope that he performs in many more productions. He might even think bigger and hit Broadway. The harmonies were on point and the choreography was great. Finding talent that can act, sing, dance, and tumble is quite impressive and it all comes together in this production. The set designs were great and there were no weak links in the cast. Everyone from the directors, stage managers, technicians, and performers should be commended. Great job! I'm spreading the word. read more

This place is amazing! Just saw out first show Aida last night. So glad to have a place like this in Utah. No idea what the complaints on parking are talking about. We drove right in, parked and walked 50 feet. Afterwards we got right out. They designed it intuitively and I was actually impressed. read more

I have been so excited to see the inside of the Hale Centre Theatre. It did not disappoint!! What a beautiful building. My daughter and I went to see Tuck Everlasting. I felt a little awkward when I walked in the beautiful building because I had come from work and so I was just in my street clothes. I should add that you CAN go in street clothes it was just such an upscale looking building that I felt out of place. Lol! There were other people there that had dressed up and others like me that were just in street clothes. They do have drinks and snacks. There is no outside food or drink allowed. Seating was very comfortable. Staff was cheerful and polite. Restrooms were clean. The play was AMAZING!! I would definitely recommend seeing a play here. I have already bought tickets to see Newsies next!! Parking was easy to find and hooked onto the building. Looking for a date night? Look no further! read more

My family and I have been going to the Hale Theatre since I've been a young girl. It was something I always looked forward to. Since having my own kids I haven't been back for years and just went to see the Scarlett pimpernel, it was amazing and now I can't wait to start taking my kids and found another great date idea! I absolutely love this theater it is elegant and the parking is convenient. Snacks and drinks are very overpriced and they need to step up the way they monitor the theaters and ensure that everyone is respectful because everyone I've gone I've had someone near me who is constantly on their phone or talking during the presentation. read more

Seats were comfortable and had decent legroom if you are average height. We had a larger member of our party and they had no trouble fitting in the seats and didnt feel squished. The show was excellent. The stage is really cool. The actors are incredibly talented. Go see a show you will have a great time!! read more

Saw Hunchback last night. I've seen this musical before at the Tuacahn production, and also online videos of the original Paperhouse debut, so not my first rodeo. It WAS my first time visiting the Hale, and I was blown away. They made some truly great staging and production choices that strengthened the narrative of the show, strengthened the setting, and made it a bit more family-friendly with minor adjustments to dialogue and in one key place a change to a main character's action (none of which ruined the story and one that actually improved it in terms of overall message and staying true to the characters). Beautifully done. Cast was outstanding, stage was outstanding, sets were outstanding. Theater was lovely and parking was easy enough, if a bit crowded. Be patient getting in and out of the garage. I only have two minor complaints: 1. I was sitting in the very last row, farthest from the stage. The view was still great and I didn't struggle to hear. However, that high up, there was a strange reverberation, kind of like bad static on a car radio. I don't know if it's true for the entire theater but maybe they should check the sound on the last rows of seats. It was (minorly) uncomfortable at times because it was strong enough to feel it. 2. When I said that they made Hunchback more family friendly, this was true. But that doesn't mean it actually is family friendly. Tuacahn did not let children in under 13 and for good reason. Hale has chosen not to post warnings or age restrictions but this show is intense and I would think anyone younger than a (mature) 10 year old is going to be bored, frightened, confused, or all three. Parents who think "Disney!" and take young children without researching are probably going to regret it. read more

I had high hopes for going during the time of Covid. They have non-refundable tickets, which is understandable. I was prepared to enjoy a well-rehearsed show-which it was- however. As I sat comfortably waiting for the show to start, another party sat directly next to me. No space in between. I thought maybe that's a fluke? No, it wasn't. Another party sat directly next to us on the other side. There was no distancing in the theater. Outside of it? Sure. But where it honestly should matter more? No.... and I about had a panic attack. We asked an attendant if there was an error in seating. No. No there wasn't. As they mentioned, the seats toward the front would all likely be full. If we wanted to change our seats during intermission we were welcome to. I'm still dumb founded. If this theater wants to remain open, then they should be adhering way better to social distancing. It just seemed like they care more about filling a theater than the safety of guests. The show was amazing, but the whole time I kept thinking about how closely I was sitting to people. And right now, that's strongly discouraged, especially in Salt Lake county. So please, be aware. The show might be great. But the seating is unsettling. It's weird that 4 months ago this would have been normal. Now it's completely unsafe. I've been to movie theaters where it deliberately prohibits you from sitting close to a party that's not in your group. I expected this area would as well. But it didn't. Not even close. Basically every seat was taken. I don't really feel safe, and I can't refund my ticket. read more

I love HCT and their shows are amazing. I went to Les Miserables last night and the cast was amazing. The reason for the 1 star is because during the second half of the show there was a sewage smell that was so awful that it made me physically sick and it ruined the show for me. I was sitting on the last row right next to the sound tech booth so the only way I could get out was to climb over about 15 people. So I breathed through it until I couldn't anymore and ended up climbing over all the people and booking it out of there and ended up throwing up in the bathroom. When I called today and asked them to make it right they said they couldn't do anything and said sometimes patrons smell bad and we are sorry you sat next to a patron that smelled bad. This was not a smell of someone that smelled bad. And I do not have the flu or some other kind of sickness because as soon as I left and got some fresh air I was fine. I'm really disappointed in them for not making it right by refunding me for part or all of the price I paid or giving me another ticket. read more

I have been to several showings at this theatre, and we're averaging 4 of 5 that end up being a hit for me, making me want to come back for more. The 5th, however, ends up giving me a bad taste in my mouth, and wondering if it's really worth it. Usually for the same reasons - too many liberties taken twisting a beloved story. Too much 'adult' (language, sexual innuendo) in what is expected to be a classic family show). I have frequented HTC, partly because movie theaters are so full of cheap garbage to draw in the masses. Another frustration, changing story lines to follow current trends and keep the stories updated. Can we leave that with the movies, please? I feel like I'm being preached to. You don't need to impress anyone by following these trends. Overall, though, I have absolutely loved so many of the productions - Singing' in the Rain, Aida, Wait Until Dark, Christmas Carol, Tuck Everlasting, Newsies. I get so excited and count the days until the next time I get to go, which makes the let down even more of let down when the things listed above leave me disappointed. I love the passion of the cast, the comedy is always mind blowing and so entertaining, and the magic of the sets just make my draw drop. One other small complaint - and I hope they will change this system. The fact that there is no curtain call. At the last play I was surprised at our matinee showing that there were so many empty seats. And 20 minutes into the production they were all full. As I watched people trickle in late, making their entire row have to stand in the middle of a scene because of the cramped space. It's just bad manners, something we've got in spades in our narcissistic culture. Come on, people! I know what you're doing must be so important and it's just difficult to make it on time... Isn't coming and going in the middle of a production something we try to teach Kindergartners not to do? Certainly can't picture this kind of thing happening at a place like Carnegie Hall. At least I hope not. read more

Being a season ticket holder I was excited to attend a play at the NEW hale theater. I did and I was impressed with the configuration of the stage but they still keep the temperature freezing cold! Bring a winter parka. This was a huge issue in their last venue. Also the sound is WAY too loud, all 4 of us had to plug our ears through the play and left with pounding headaches. They are creative plays but the cast being 19-23 years old in every show gets old fast. Please turn down the mic volume and turn up the temperature!!! Your goal should be to make your audience comfortable. Not sure if I'll renew my tickets next season. read more

I am so sad and heartbroken tonight. I'm not usually one to leave a bad review. I even had to download this app to leave the review because I don't know where else to leave it. Tonight was most likely my last night ever going to A Christmas Carol. I have been going to this production for many years. It has been tradition for many years. To me, Christmas just is not Christmas unless I've been to Hale to see this play. However, all of the magic that it once was is now gone. No matter how big or small the details were, they skipped out on every single chance they had to make this the great show that I've always known it to be. I understand that the stage is much different and may not have as many features as the one it's been performed on before, but even the small details like the tombstone not having a crackling firework effect, or the ghost of Christmas future not even being on stilts or the fun bubble snow. There just was no Christmas magic. I never thought I would ever be disappointed in this show but tonight has really set me back. I'm pretty heartbroken and disappointed in this years show. read more

We have had season tickets for several years now and so grateful that the new theater is less then a mile from our home! However we saw, "Tuck Everlasting ", and all the actors and vocals were great except for the main girl. She was off pitch and sang through her nose. It was painful to listen to. The man behind me said to his wife, "I'm turning off my hearing aid". The couple next to us left during intermission. I have never been disappointed there before but if I could have. I would have asked for my money back. read more

Saw Hunchback tonight, first time at the Sandy location. The technical aspects of the new theater are amazing; I'm always blown away by the art and science that goes into a Hale production. Top to bottom, the cast performances were top notch. I got my wish for more legroom than WVC, but only a little. Extremely uncomfortable seats. Far too upright, needs a little bit of a backward tilt. And I swear that the only people who tested the seats and the configuration must have been 5'2" and 90lbs soaking wet. I really wish that you would have consulted some 6'5" offensive linemen on the seats and legroom. Couldn't wait for the intermission to stretch my legs. It's sad that the seats are the lasting impression and a negative one at that. read more
