As with many of the other buildings along this road, it's older and has a lot of character-I'll bet it could tell some fascinating stories if the building could talk. I'd go to that play, fo' sho! The seating is fairly comfortable and there's not a bad spot in the house. You can see the stage from every angle. It's a smaller theater, which magnifies the intimacy of the productions put on here. I love that you can see the facial expression of the performers and are so close to the stage. This may not be the fanciest house in town, but there's something about being able to say you've been coming to this theater for generations and the nostalgia that comes along with the place.

The actors change, the games change, and funny changes. So let's be straight up honest, it is at 10:00 p.m. for a reason. They sometimes have an early show that is always family friendly. The later shows are still clean, but get a little PG-13 from time to time. Were it me, I'd leave the kids at home with grandma, and take my man out for a night of funny, in your face, comedy fun. The shows recently moved to the Midvale Performing Arts Center which has a great big stage for these comedians to play with. The teams are usually well matched in improv funny. ### Impressive Stagecraft, but an Underwhelming Theatre Experience…read more I recently attended *Moriarty* at Hale Centre Theatre in Sandy, and unfortunately, the most impressive part of the production wasn't the acting or the story--it was the elaborate, constantly shifting scenery. The technical complexity of the sets was genuinely fascinating and easily the highlight of the evening. Unfortunately, the performances felt exaggerated, with the actors trying far too hard to manufacture laughs. Rather than allowing the humor to develop naturally, much of the comedy seemed forced. The ending was equally disappointing, offering an artificially cheerful "happy ending" that felt unearned and inconsistent with the original story. It's apparent the playwrite didn't actually align with the original stories. As for Hale Centre Theatre itself, I have mixed feelings. The venue somehow manages to feel both elegant and cheap at the same time. The architecture and stage technology suggest a sophisticated, professional theatre, yet the overall experience sometimes feels more like a conventional movie theater. The concession offerings are a particular frustration. There's something decidedly lacking in class about treating a live theatrical performance like a trip to the cinema, complete with popcorn, candy, and other movie-style snacks. I appreciate that concessions generate revenue, but they detract from the atmosphere one would expect at a professional theatre. The seating doesn't help matters. The chairs are stiff and uncomfortable for an extended performance, and oddly enough, they don't even have cup holders--despite the venue encouraging patrons to purchase drinks. If we're going to embrace the movie-theater experience, we might as well accommodate it properly. Finally, the performance scheduling is consistently inconvenient. Showtimes seem designed to fall squarely in the middle of traditional mealtimes, making it difficult to enjoy a proper lunch or dinner either before or after the production. It's an awkward arrangement for what should be an enjoyable afternoon or evening out. **Overall, Hale Centre Theatre deserves considerable credit for its impressive stage engineering and technical capabilities. However, sophisticated scenery alone doesn't make a compelling production, and the venue's combination of uncomfortable seating, casual concessions, and inconvenient scheduling detracts from an otherwise potentially elegant theatrical experience.**

My wife had the Cornish Hen which she absolutely loved. It came with a romesco sauce. She said the Hen was perfectly seasoned throughout and kept talking about it. I had the chef's special, in this case duck breast. The chef came out and personally served me and was so happy I had the duck. Looking around, almost everyone else had the prime rib which looked fine but I guess cooking prime rib doesn't excite a chef the same way. My duck was spectacular. It came with a berry-butter-persimmon sauce and whole small carrots. There were truffle creamed potatoes as well, which I couldn't finish. The duck & carrots I polished off though. The chef informed us she had only been head chef for 5 months and was trying diligently to outdo the former chef which I approved. Periodically during the meal a talking head regaled us with abridged Edgar Allen Poe stories. Ended with a magic show in which practically everyone got involved, including both me & my wife. 10/10.

The shows are comedic and musical, with occasional moments of improvisation. So far, I've attended two of their performances: one was The Great Gatsby that was held in a parking lot. All the attendees circled their vehicles around a stage and watched from the Covid-safe spaces in their cars. I appreciated the creativity of the performers and producers of the show to be able to provide the entertainment while not being able to be " in person." The second show was last night and was at a restaurant. We were in a private room with every table filled. It was wonderful to see smiling faces that were not peaking out from behind masks. The show was entertaining-with tons of audience participation. If you don't want to be called out or interact with the performers, this might not be the scene for you. At the end of the murder mystery, the audience votes for who they think the murderer was-AND the appropriate punishment. I loved seeing the reactions of the cast members when they took their punishment-especially when one of them had to guzzle ketchup. It was hilarious! And it's refreshing to see shows that aren't done everywhere. I believe their mantra is "We're Not Going To Do Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat." Not that there's anything wrong with that show, but I do have this theory that it's much like Seinfeld, in that no matter the date it's playing somewhere in the world. Because of the selectivity of their schedule, it's never going to appeal to massive crowds. And so they'll probably always have a limited budget and limited resources. They do squeeze the most out of those resources, and the shows look pretty good. They also find some good talent, so I've never been awkwardly underwhelmed. Worth checking out.
