I don't live around the area and only stopped by Halalbees on my way home from another errand so I could get a halal meal for the family. Ordered three Hot Chick burgers (one combo meal and two single burgers), plus some sides to go. Even checked the bag to make sure that they gave us the right number of orders before we left. Came home to find out that the employee at the register with the stank look on her face messed up not one, not two, but ALL THREE of our CHICKEN orders and gave us THREE portobello mushroom burgers instead!! What's the point of going to a halal burger joint if they're gonna mess up every single one of your burgers and give you three soggy mushroom caps rather than halal meat?! What a waste. FYI, the register employee is the one who messed up my order, not the kitchen staff. The reason I say this is because when I got home and bit into my spongy mushroom burger, I went back and reviewed the receipt attached to the bag and noticed it said porto burger for all the burgers. What doesn't make sense about this is that I actually put in the "hot chick" orders separately (I.e, instead of saying 3 "hot chicks," I listed the orders one by one) and the register employee READ BACK my order to me and she specifically said "hot chick" for all the burger types, so it's just nonsensical that she somehow still put in the order wrong. I used to enjoy Halalbees, but I realized after multiple attempts at ordering from here that the daytime staff and evening staff are 2 totally different groups of employees with different understandings of rapport, customer care, and food handling. The daytime staff are extremely kind and attentive to details, and the store is kept very clean and tidy. In the evening, I have had many, many issues that verged on discriminatory and a violation of my rights. The actual food quality has declined over the last few months of me eating here. For example, the item, 'Hot Chick' used to use a different type of chicken patty and more recently it is not only smaller and worse-tasting, but there is minimal sauce on it and sometimes has burns on it. Surprising because I have seen 4-5 people working diligently right in front of me, so not sure why the order would get messed up like this. Additionally, the woman who takes my order sometimes in the evening, is very rude and does not apply the same rules to everyone regarding vaccination cards, the availability to sit in store and eat, as well as what information she requires when taking orders. I had previously given this store a 5 star rating with a very happy experience, but it seems that since they are opening a new branch in Brooklyn, that cost-effectiveness takes precedence over keeping the customer base. At this point, I wish to no longer eat here because of the evident decline in quality and the way me and my family have been treated. UPDATE: Everytime I go to this store in attempts to see if they care to update or change anything, the manager glares at me and pretends to work, quite a hilarious experience. Update. I've ordered a few times for pickup since the "you know what has occurred." It has been spotty with the service. Young kid at the pick up window wasn't wearing a mask, and noticed a cook wasn't either. things aren't made the way you order, missing items in bag, and fries are soggy. I've told the people at pickup but they don't seem to care. Recently ordered about a day or so ago. Missing fries, and none of my specifications were followed on how to make the sandwiches. Also, the new "ribeye steak sandwich," is a complete rip off. It's philly cheese steak meat that you could get at a deli and it would be much tastier at a local deli too. Hallalbees is a funny place. I've been to both of their locations, which at first blush look a bit like your average hipstery burger joint/Shake Shack clone but if you look closer, it gets kind of weird. Why, for instance, is there a sign by the counter that reads 'there's never a bad time for pizza' when there is no pizza on the menu? Why is the place covered in signs sharing 'live, laugh, love' style platitudes? Why are there bicycles made of pipes stuck to the wall? I don't know and I've given up caring, because frankly... this place is great. I've been around long enough to remember when the first Shake Shack location had a constant line of 200 or so hungry people snaking around the park, before they branched out and their standards drifted downwards and the things that made it special gradually evaporated. Well... if you miss that magic, you can still find it at Hallalbees... minus the line. I've worked my way around most of the burgers on the menu, they're always great, but my go-to is The Lunatic. IN LOVE! My siblings and I have been wanting to try this place out, so tonight was the night! From the outside looking in, Halalbee's aesthetic is on point and so is the food! My siblings and I ordered two lunatics and one hot chick, all of which were amazingly good! I unfortunately was not able to try the hot chick since it's cooked in peanut oil, but my sister loved how the burger just melted into her mouth. The same goes for the lunatic! I love how fresh the ingredients tasted and the level of spice was just enough. The beef was tender and juicy -- everything was just cooked to perfection. I've read previous reviews about the burger size and in my opinion, they're perfectly proportioned. The only reason I'd want a bigger burger is so that I don't finish it within a couple of minutes because IT'S THAT GOOD! The staff were super friendly and welcoming! They even gave us a soda on the house. This establishment is such a great addition to the neighborhood and I'm excited to walk back every time I'm craving a burger. THANK YOU! Wow, I don't know where to start. My friends and I have been waiting to try this HALAL (yes you heard that right) burger spot. Because we happened to be in the area, we decided to come here around 8 at night. It was somewhat busy, but there is plenty of seating including stools that wrap around by the windows. The staff is super friendly and greet you upon entry. Behind the cashier, you can see the food being prepared fresh. I decided to opt for truffle fries and chicken tenders with a coke. My total was SUPER reasonable totaling about $12. My friends all opted for burgers and regular fries. Not going to lie, halal restaurants tend to not deliver on the flavor and taste. With every bite of Halalbees, I wish my food never ended. The chicken was PERFECTLY seasoned, crispy and juicy! The truffle fries were a generous helping of truffle, which when paired with ketchup was delicious! The burger tasted so delicious, I could have swore I was at In&Out. Perfectly cooked meat in-between a delicious lightly toasted bun! The best part of this restaurant is their menu. The place is convenient with plenty of street parking and has a decent seating arrangement with multiple tables. They have a relatively small menu with burgers, shakes, and some sides such as fries, pickles, and onion rings. I decided to go with the lunatic which has jalapeños, beef bacon, and Gouda cheese. The burger was smaller than I would have liked it but at 7.95 isn't that bad for value. The beef bacon was the best bacon I have had and the burger itself was pretty good. I rarely eat burgers but I was really in the mood for one and decided to try Halalbee's due to the high ratings. I ordered the Lunatic burger as a meal and I loved it. The meat was juicy & cooked perfectly (medium rare) and each bite was filled with the sauce and fillings. I usually don't like gouda cheese but it tasted so good with the ghost mayo and beef bacon. It deff has a kick to it with the jalapenos. The fries were also crispy with the right amount of salt - glad I got the meal instead of just the burger. I highly recommend this place. My husband and I were in town visiting family and we walked by and saw that they were having a soft opening of Halalbee's. We were greeted outside and invited in by two young dudes to try them out. Being native Texans, we both definitely have an air of snobbery when it comes to burgers so we turned them down at first. But to their credit, they were very persistent that their burger could beat any Texas burger. Those were borderline fighting words to us so we took them up on it. My husband immediately went to the grill to grill the cook while I checked out the decor. I took some pictures of the lights they had because it reminded me of the movie Metropolis and wanted to see if we could get something similar at Anthropologie for our house. Important stuff. I ordered The Original and he got The Oklahoma w/side of truffle fries. We have had many halal foods but never had a Halal burger before so I think my husband was expecting something similar-tasting to a gyro. He turned to me looking surprised and said it tastes just like the beef patties from Pappas (our beloved Texas franchise). The only negative thing I can say is they did not give me a fair warning that the dipping sauce that went with the fries was a ghost pepper concoction. My husband loves spicy food so he ate all of it and even put the sauce on his burger. I can't handle spicy as great. One of the workers, possibly the owner, must have noticed my suffering and brought me a caramel milk shake that was well-timed and also delicious. I've been to Halalbee's many times and it's hard for me to go to Queens all the time but sometimes you just gotta do what you gotta do for your hanger. I've had the lunatic burger, hot chick, chicken nuggets, buttermilk onion rings, mixed fries, and fried pickles. The lunatic burger or hot chick are my go to's though, not going to lie. I love fried chicken sandwiches and I love theirs. This time I had to try something new and I let my friend pick for me (the serrano burger). We also got the steak sandwich (which I saw on Instagram & was what led me here), the lunatic burger, and the truffle fries. The lunatic burger is just the right amount of spicy and smokey. The truffle fries are good but my favorite version of them. I prefer the mixed fries (they do sweet potato fries well). The Serrano burger wasn't much spicier to me than the lunatic. It was good but I prefer the depth of flavor the smoked ghost mayo and Gouda brings to the lunatic burger. The steak sandwich was melty and delicious. However I did find myself wanting some mayo with it and I'm not sure if there was any in it. This would definitely taste amazing with added spicy things too. They didn't have outdoor seating so be ready to take your food home or eat it in a car picnic like I did. Either way, I definitely recommend Halalbees. Yes I tracked out to Jamaica Estates just for the halal . Was it worth it?! 100! The open kitchen concept allowed for more interaction and a closer feel with staff. I've tried only three shakes so far but they definitely have the best shakes for value in this area. I love chocolate so I had the Chocolate dub ofc but it's still only my second favorite. The Blackberry Cheesecake Shake is just that good but it's not always available. I also tried the Nutter Butter but to be honest it almost seemed too peanut buttery if that was a possibility. The once burger joint with the juicy thick meat, quality ingredients, and overall exceptional burger experience sadly no longer lives up to its reputation. There is clear evidence in trying to find shortcuts and cutting back on the burger that it's completely destroyed my experience. In addition to their price point going up (which is understandable with the change in time) their burger quality has significantly declined. We called to complain about the thinning of the meat and their explanation was "oh we were getting a lot of complaints about the thickness so we flattened it out", why would people complain about a thick juicy meat? Look at the reviews from a few months ago, a year ago to more recent reviews. There is a clear trend going on here. They are cutting back and losing customers and for someone whose been a fan from day 1, this was a tremendous disappointment. Might as well pay for basic crown fried burger at this point. read more
