I am not a person who likes my hair short in the back and long in the front, which is what I always end up with and pay for, since I moved from NY. I had long hair and asked someone to cut it short, and I ended up with an embarrassing enormous afro, and I'm a caucasian. I should add, that she's an expert, cutting curly hair. Halaina welcomes you to her lovely salon, tucked across the street from Socastee High School. With a lovely Mediterranian entry, you open the doors to a welcoming kitchen area, where you help yourself to complimentary coffee during the day and wine in the evenings. Halaina will explain to you what will be best for your hair as far as cut and coloring. She takes her time with you to ensure you will walk out feeling gorgeous and that you got what you paid for. Halaina does run specials, so do watch out for them, however her prices are fair without them. Since the day I met her, I had an immediate connection, as she sculptures my hair while I enjoy the experience. My husband was weary after the huge afro I had, but he's delighted with my short cut. Actually, I found this salon through yelp reviews. I was fed up with paying good money for bad haircuts, them blaming my hair ( it's too thick, too course) rather than realizing that a good stylist should be able to handle a diversity of hair types. After spending over $300 in several visits (a lot of money) I was told she wouldn't comp me on a haircut she gave me that I didn't like. It was a circumstance that I had my hair cut, then I called 3 days later to complain about it but Halaina was going on vacation for a week so I left a message on the answer phone to please call me when she got back. I called again after giving Halaina a week and a half and left another message on her machine to call AND that I had cut my hair. She calls back, I'm gone, and tells my husband she tried to reach me several times. (I DID NOT RECEIVE ANY MESSAGES FROM HALAINA) Anyway, I called back and told her I wasn't satisfied with my haircut and she told me that since I cut it myself, she couldn't see her lines, (without asking anything about what I meant by cut) so she'd have to CHARGE me for another haircut appointment! HALAINA was not interested in what was wrong with the cut, why I cut it myself or helping me get my hair FIXED. Put your fears away!:) As a newcomer to the area it was traumaticfor me to turn my hair color and cut over to a new hairdresser after 10+ years with my previous stylist. That being said I found my hairdresser for the next 10++ years thanks to HALAINA. I love a natural looking hair color and after talking with Halaina upon arrival she listened to me and I listened to her until we both were assured of the desired effect. The color results are on point which is very impressive since she only met me today. She emphasized a conservative start in hair cut length and remarked that she could always cut more afterward if I preferred(which I did not, the cut came lovely). Halaina squeezed me in at the end of a long day and fixed my brassy orange hair problem. She not only is truly knowledgeable about hair coloring, but also listens to you when you explain what you want and has a great sense of what would look good. This is the WORST hair salon experience I have ever had in my life, and I have been to many salons. First off, I made an appointment 2 weeks in advance excited from all of the good reviews. When time came for my appointment to come around, I was there right on time, and had to wait 20 minutes. But this was the least of my worries. I had Halaina as the person doing my hair which was very disappointing considering she is the owner and I was surprised at how unprofessional it was. I showed her many pictures of what I wanted and all I wanted was to go darker from my yellow toned blonde back to a more natural dirty blonde. She said she would put in some lowlights. The lady working at the counter told her to tell me a price, and Halaina walked over to her and they were whispering about the price, which made me uncomfortable. Prior to my appointment, I had already looked online at the prices. The price of a full head of foil (lowlights) would be around $160, but if you use more than one color, the price goes up another $10. Note that she only told me she was using one color. She did not tell me my price until she had already done half of my head, so I couldn't stop her then. She told me my price would be $180. I didn't ask questions because I figured she knew what she was doing. As she was putting in lowlights, I noticed she kept alternating colors. When I asked her what the purple dye was, she said it was highlights. I DID NOT ask for highlights and the pictures I showed her had no highlights in them. The color that she was putting in my hair was a light bleach blonde! And the darker color she put for my lowlights was a shade of brown because she said it would fade into the color I wanted. As she was alternating, she was doing it very fast and did not go all the way to the root. She kept messing up, saying "oh sh**" and wiping the dye off with a towel and going over it with the other color. I then waited for my hair to process. When I was done, I was told to go back to my chair, so I did. When I was sitting in my chair, another customer walked in, asking if Halaina could dye their hair. The other woman asked if they had an appointment, and they said no. Halaina told me to move to another chair, as the other customer sat in my chair and Halaina started to do their hair. I thought this was extremely rude and unprofessional as I had made my appointment weeks in advance. Halaina had the lady who works at the desk wash the dye out of my hair. I sat in the chair with wet hair for 15-20 minutes. When she was finished with the other customer, she had me sit down, and started to cut my hair. I told her I did not want a haircut because I was growing it out, and this is what she said. "Your hair is so dead that you wouldn't get away without a haircut. It's too thin on the bottom and I don't usually cut hair too short but you need at least an inch or two" and she continued to cut it. She also brought up the fact that I have baby hairs around my hairline and said I needed bangs to cover it up because it "doesn't look good." She put in layers without my consent which made my hair even more thin on the bottom. She then had another woman start to blowdryer my hair. When she was done blow drying, Halaina came over and looked at it and said I was okay and to have a nice day as if she was throwing me out. I paid $180 for a choppy haircut and horrible dye that I absolutely hate. I will never go back here again. I usually do not write reviews but I feel like this needed to be heard. read more

I had to find a new hair stylist because mine is out of state. I was skeptical of going to anyone new, and now I know why!! I picked Halaina's salon, based on the reviews and the fact that her salon won best of the grand strand (runner up). I showed Halaina the formula my hair dresser used and had used on me for years. She proceeded to tell me that she did not believe that she had used that on my hair. She said, I don't believe that, and then further instructed that she had to go really dark to cover up the different colors my hair was. Instead of mixing a warm color in with the really dark brown (Elvira looking almost black), she put this dark, dark, dark, brown with no warmth in it. I'm not a colorist, but, I DO KNOW that my skin tone is warm, I look better in gold jewelry (which is a good indicator of what skin tone you are), and she said, No, you have a cool tone to your skin, DEFINITELY NOT TRUE. It was all about what she thought looked good, which it looks awful, then she wanted to cut off all of my beautiful long, healthy hair. I had to tell her firmly, NO. She still cut off around two inches and then I was left with almost black hair. My natural hair color, is a medium brown, with a lot of red and highlights naturallly. Now, my hair is a flat, very dark, color, that makes me look so pale and sickly. She has no idea what she is doing with Pravana color. I have since spoke to my stylist who is very very upset that Halaina did not mix the Pravana with some warmer color, and stated she should have known that Pravana haircolor is usually one to two shades darker than on the sample board of hair swatches, instead of just taking an easy route and then the end result being VERY BAD. Its not a good idea to bash the previous Hair Dresser (especially when she has much more experience than Halaina and has worked in L.A. and on celebrity clients and the only reason I had to find someone else is because I don't live close to her anymore. Well, needless to say, I'm stuck with this dark hair because I don't want to further compromise the health of my hair, until my hair stylist can either come visit or me to visit her for her to correct the awful color Halaina gave me. Please please listen to me, if you are going for color, go elsewhere, Halaina will give you whatever she wants, and you won't have a say whatsoever. I will never return and I plan on telling everyone I know, who did my hair so that this does not happen to anyone else. Halaina, you need to take more classes on hair color. Perhaps if you did, your clients would not have to suffer for your mistakes. read more
