The kebab and naan combos here may be welcome, but some people may think a takeaway restaurant's reputation has had its chips if it only offers skinny fries instead of thick-cut, squidgy, golden fluffiness.
They can relax. Despite Hajee Ghani fitting right in with Slade Road's international flavour, this venue - as you may demand of somewhere purporting to be first and foremost a chippy - does a nice line in the traditional Brit-chip.
There seems little point fishing for descriptions of battered cod, so where does Hajee distinguish itself?
While the cute building and small outdoors seating area may catch the eye, along with the big-hitting kebabs and naan, it is price which really sets it apart.A single piece of chicken with chips for 99p? You can't say fairer than that. Double the price for kebabs, or add 50p for a jacket potato with beans.
There is, however, a pricier but reasonable mixed grill in naan for those with appetites for whom fish and chips is literally small fry.
This is the kind of chippy that is almost impossible to walk past. read more
