I have been taking my fur son, Franchesco, here for many years, and I absolutely love the small, family-owned atmosphere. Even though it's a small shop, the salon is always welcoming, the customer service is outstanding, the grooming quality is excellent, and the prices are very reasonable. I usually bring Franchesco on the second Saturday of the month since they're only open one Saturday each month. While he's getting cleaned up and looking handsome, I head over to the Brentwood Farmers' Market. By the time I've enjoyed a coffee, grabbed a bagel, and done a little shopping, Franchesco is ready to go home looking his best. One thing I really appreciate is the salon's open-floor layout. From the lobby, you can hear what's going on, and if you peek in, you can see the dogs being groomed. At first, I was a little nervous because Franchesco is a grumpy old man, but he's done surprisingly well in this environment. He has been groomed by several different groomers over the years and has never had a bad experience. The owner works the front desk herself, and she is always kind, professional, and very knowledgeable about dogs. It's clear that she genuinely cares about both the pets and their owners. They also offer fun little extras that make each visit special, like a "Scent of the Month" after grooming and an adorable Halloween costume contest. And for us pet parents, they always have sweet treats waiting at the front desk. It's those thoughtful touches that keep us coming back year after year. I highly recommend them to anyone looking for a caring, trustworthy, and affordable groomer. read more

Great customer service. Great with both my dogs and always a good product when I pick the dogs up.

They took great care of my nine year old miniature poodle . I've been the only one bathing/trimming her, but in the last few years she wouldn't let me bathe/trim without having to muzzle and medicate. My vet recommended this groomer. I'm so happy and relieved. Precious looked beautiful and not stressed. See before and after pictures. read more

BEWARE!!!!! I took my dog for the first time to get her groomed. She walked in perfectly fine only to pick her up two hours later with a spinal injury!!! after a couple discussions all they said is they didn't do anything wrong and nothing happened. She just got a haircut. Needless to say, took her in on Friday. Had to put her down on Tuesday. A person shouldn't have to go through that. Beware everybody. read more

Friendly. Clean. And location is good for me. They listen to what you have to say.

Hairy Hounds is so amazing with our 2 dogs! They always come home so happy and clean from a day at the doggie spa! We always do the wash, teeth, ears and nails and then a trim for our retriever. read more

First time customer. Extremely happy! Not a lot of groomers know how to care for a Shetland sheepdog but this place knows what they're doing!! My dog came out looking better than I expected. His teeth were so clean and he looked pounds lighter due to the fantastic job they did with his undercoat. Their communication is excellent. They're friendly and very knowledgeable. I even received a phone call to recommend some preventative things to look out for in the future which was so appreciated. They were able to obtain his shot records so I didn't even need to contact my vet! That was a huge help. I hope they like us, because we will be coming here forever!! read more

Great services. Nice people. Decent prices. Definitely will return. Love the nail service. I can get all five dogs done in under 30 minutes.

My experience with Hairy Hounds was amazing! After moving into the area not too long ago I began to look for a new groomer and everyone I called seemed to not have any openings for months and they were charging way more than we experienced with our previous groomers. When I called Hairy Hounds, their customer service over the phone was amazing! They were able to book me for their earliest opening available and they took great care of my boy Thor. He was in need of a grooming badly but they got the grooming done in a fast turnaround. The communication from beginning to end was amazing and I will absolutely be bringing Thor back to Hairy Hounds! read more

I've always groom my dogs at home because one of my dogs is very sassy, and it's my male dog Kevin . I'm always apprehensive about taking them to the groomers and afraid they will not behave. So their very first grooming sesh with Hairy Hounds turned out well, even my sassy one Kevin, i was told my dogs did very well. Thank you Hairy Hounds from the time i called, appointment made, the check in, the friendly staff, handling my dogs and when I picked them up, great customer service! read more

The staff was professional and kind to my furry baby that gave them hell to get her nails cut! An 80-pound baby required extra attention and couldn't of ask for a better team to get the job done though all my furry baby drama! Lol. Thank you Harry Hounds! read more

They always do such a good job with my dogs haircut who has very crazy difficult to cut hair (she's a mini pin/toy poodle = unruly wirey curles). They're very easy to schedule with and they call you to remind you of your appt a few days before which I like. They usually have my dog ready within 3 hours of drop off which is fairly quick considering some places will have you drop off at 8am and pickup till after 2. I LOVE the little bandanas they send you off with, that's a big plus. Here are some pics after her grooming appt (FYI I chose not to give her too short of a cut , I like her furry but just cleaned up) read more

Been taking my dog here for years with no issues. On the last visit my dog was groomed by the owners daughter and came home with cuts. Today, I was bringing in my other dog and shared the information with the owner. Instead of receiving we will do better and apology, I was told my dog was a problem of which had never been discussed in the many years bringing him. Then the owner told me she no longer wanted to do business with me. I wasn't angry when I went in, just sharing my concerns since my dog had never been cut before. I am ok with not taking my pups there any longer, but thought folks should know that if you have an issue you can't tell them because they won't want to do business with you any longer. UPDATE: Owner replied that they had contacted my vet about hot spots. I did not take him to the vet for the cuts on his nose or the cut on the back of his leg as those were healing. It was not a miscommunication - my dog had scabs on his nose and back leg, tail was questionable on if there was a cut or hot spots, which we never got to discuss because she cut me off and said she didn't want to do business with me again. These are our babies we put in the hands of groomers and it is disheartening to be treated this way when a concern is brought forward. read more

Fantastic place for nail trims! Best prices and quick service. No appt needed. Thank you so much ladies.

First time at Hairy Hounds. I felt like it was time to try someplace new. I'm really glad I found them. It's like dropping your baby off to day care, you worry until they're in your arms again. Jan did great and my girl seemed very happy when I picked her up. She was sleeping when I got there so I took that as a good sign. Hairy Hounds is pretty far out of the way from where I live but I don't mind the drive and wait as long as my girl is happy. Stella even got her teeth brushed and came out with a cute bandana. read more

Best groomer in the area by far! They have been for many years. He staff is cordial and very professional HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

That's a lie. She jumped up on me her adrenaline was high but the minute she came down she started limping. All these weeks later she is still limping. Suffice it to say I would never go back. Why would I have called the vet within an hour of leaving that place ?? I have never sued anyone but if I did it would be them. Just their manner in talking to me told me a lot. It read more

Love everything about this place, they fit us in and Jan the groomer was so detailed about everything and really took the extra mile to correct his breed cut. Thank you again for everything, so happy to find a new grooming spot so close to home! read more

So happy with Hairy Hound. I called pretty last minute for a Siberian Husky and they were so friendly and accommodating. Drop off was quick and I picked her up 2.5 hours later-- not at the end of the day like other groomers I've taken her do. My expectations were low- my dog has some serious anxiety issues as she was an abused rescue. I usually groom her myself because I have been unsatisfied with groomers in the past and it's stressful for her. She looked AMAZING. She was blowing her coat and they pulled out so much of her thick undercoat. They also trimmed her nails and brushed her teeth. I didn't think this was possible. The price was quite fair as well. Lu will have a monthly appointment here from now on. read more

I just moved to the Oakley area and needed to find a good groomer! My little girl, Bella, is a 1-year old Shih tzu and she is very scared of grooming, so I was quite anxious to take her just anywhere. I called around this week and found Hairy Hounds was right down the street from me. I called another groomer right before that, but the phone call didn't go well - the guy seemed very distracted and I really wanted a friendly voice to make me feel better - which I didn't get. So I called Hairy Hounds and they were so sweet! I felt immediately relieved, like Bella was in good hands. I dropped her off this morning and just picked her up and she looks absolutely beautiful! She looks like a little princess! I'm so, so happy with their customer service, quality of work, convenience, and overall great business! I will definitely be bringing her back! read more

I started taking my Shih Tzu Abby when she could have her first grooming appointment after she'd had all her shots etc. The last time I used a groomer was 3 years ago up in Pollock Pines, but both our dogs have passed away, so after moving to Brentwood and purchasing a Shih Tzu puppy, began to look for a groomer in this area. The first appointment I fell in love with Hairy Hounds! Lol, that sounds funny! But after meeting the staff and seeing their safe way of COVID practices, and superior skills at grooming, I was hooked. Hairy Hounds staff is genuinely friendly and supportive! They communicate exceedingly well and always take special care of my baby! Abby, my Shih Tzu, is now a year old and has never looked better. Hairy Hounds is by far the number 1 groomer I have ever used over the last 16 plus years. The price is excellent and more than worth it! They also have highly trained groomers with awards plaques on the wall for various levels of training and expertise. For an extra $5 they will brush my dogs teeth and gums! Truly we are blessed to have such a wonderful groomer in this area! Five star all the way!!! read more

I am glad that this groomer is very careful with checking vaccinations before grooming. I would give it 3.5 if half stars was an option. This was my first time at this groomer and I only went because my in home groomer is on maternity leave. I asked for a short cut, but not shaved like a poodle (I have a labradoodle) and the cut came out OK. Hair was a little longer than I wanted all over her body and face. I asked for shaved undercarriage and added terry brushing to my service, but both her undercarriage was still very hairy and her teeth looked the same as when I dropped her off. I'm satisfied to an extent and would go back if my reliable groomer is not available, but disappointed that I will likely have to follow up with another grooming session in a few weeks. read more

My dog's hair is always a mess no matter how I wash or brush him. He's the first dog I have had with hair like mine. I decided to take him to Petsmart to be groomed. BIG MISTAKE. I got a call that they are unable to groom him because he was "too scared". When I picked him up, the had shaved one strip of his fur down his back and charged me $55.00. That's when Hairy Hounds saved the day. I took him in and the only phone call I got was letting me know they fixed his fur and he was ready! They did such a wonderful job and told me he wasn't a problem to work with. He smelled wonderful and looked great! I will now be a regular! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!! read more

I am so glad I brought my puppy here. Both me and my friend brought our dogs in together. They took such good care of them. They both look amazing. They're so soft and smell amazing. We had just gotten back from camping and knew they needed a deep clean. My pup is now 5 shades whiter. So adorable and sooo soft. I was worried how my dog would react because this was his first time doing something like this. They reassured me everything would be ok and it was, he did great and I will definitely take him back.
