Holly is so talented! Offers viable suggestions for new and upcoming hairstyles. She is very personable and has clients returning for years. My color is always spot on! read more

I have been looking for a stylist who understands how to give a sophisticated haircut. Brandy did an exceptional job. She spent a good amount of time looking at my hair, looking at my face, and asked me what I was hoping for. Then she went to work and gave me an excellent cut. The vibe of the salon is simple and quiet. I wish she did color, but she has a partner who does, and I look forward to trying her out. She only sees clients during the week, which can be challenging for those who work full time during the week, but I will make it a priority to carve out time for her. read more

I went here on Friday afternoon to get a haircut with Brandy. She did a great job at listening to what I was looking for and creating a hairstyle that would work with my natural curls and with straightened hair. You can really tell she takes her craft seriously. The business takes a lot of precautions for COViD, which I appreciated. They wipe down everything prior to your entry. I was the only customer in the small room. Mask was worn at all times by me and the hairstylist. Overall, it was a great experience, I highly recommend it! read more

Update--I've continued to see Brandy since she helped me make my big hair transformation from long hair to a pixie over 2.5yrs ago. The pandemic happened between then and now, during which I decided to grow my hair out again (what better time then the months when no one would see me, save for over Zoom calls?). She helped me transition my hair through all the awkward grow out stages to make them less awkward and continues to do an awesome job cutting my now shoulder-length hair. Also: I didn't mention in my initial review that Brandy, beyond being extremely skilled at her craft, is also just lovely to talk with any time I go in. Very calm, up to chatting if you're feeling it, but also down to just listen to whatever music is on at her studio. I imagine she's one of those people that could talk to anyone and I envy her of that skill. read more

Holly is the best stylist I've ever had. She's an expert at color and has been cutting my long, thick hair for over 15 years. She's always bright, funny, and nice to be around. I look forward to my appointments so much that my husband switched over to her several years ago and hasn't turned back since. If you're on the fence about Hairsmith, don't be! You're in good hands! read more

Hairsmith - *Holly did not do the dog's hair, just mine. - Hair Salons Near Me - Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

I went to Hairsmith for the first time and had a haircut with Holly. Holly was really nice and listened to what I wanted. She also made adjustments in the end based on my requests, to make sure I get what I want. It turned out lovely. Also, the salon is careful about COVID rules, and parking is very convenient, right in front of the salon, but also on the nearby streets. Overall I am very satisfied, and I will go again! read more

I went in to get a pixie cut, which is the shortest style I've ever gotten. Brandy was honest about what my hair could do (I have fine, thin hair), and was able to come up with a style and cut that looked great. She even encouraged me to let the cut settle for a few days and come back in if there were any issues. I ended up coming back in to shorten the back and she did it free of charge. She's clearly very talented and I would recommend her to anyone who wants a great haircut! It's not even been a week and I've already gotten a bunch of compliments. read more

I just want to echo the reviews that try to describe just what a phenomenal stylist Brandy is. I've gotten my hair cut by her twice so far, and it's indescribable how precise and perfect they've been. She is one of the most talented stylists I've ever seen, and I've lived in many cities across the country. After moving here last year I tried Pageboy but was disappointed with the cuts I got there. I was about to try some stylists at Mint, which is around the corner from me, but realized that most of the positive reviews for Mint were mainly for Brandy. I have thick, wiry hair that I like to have short - it's unfortunately not an easy feat to make it look good. Brandy has managed to make it look stylish and sharp, natural yet polished. I'm moving away at the end of the month, but will still need to be back a few times a year, and will try and schedule my visits to see Brandy for haircuts. Yes, she's THAT good. read more

Hands-down the best haircut in Pittsburgh (speaking from a guy's point of view). I'm a generally easygoing person, but with my hair - I'm very picky and before I came to Hairsmith, I was almost never satisfied. I've been going for the past year and I'll never go anywhere else. Brandy is phenomenal / a master at what she does. It's obviously something she cares deeply about, and about making people happy. She listens and makes helpful suggestions. She's also an incredibly intelligent person, and interesting to talk to. I look forward to my haircuts and conversations. read more

I have found my stylist. Brandy is legit, and let me tell you why. I hate reading reviews so I'm going to Bullet Point this: 1) The space is awesome - intimate, and not flashy. I felt comfortable there - and she has great taste 2) The conversation didn't feel forced. She didn't ask me what I did for a living, or about my dating life. We talked about horror films - HORROR FILMS, and what was I watching on Netflix - I was too happy to oblige. 3) She is a really sincere person, knows her shit and will give you a kick-ass haircut. I'm going back and definitely spreading the word. Thank you Brandy! read more

Lovely hair salon, it felt like the most attentive haircut I've ever had. Brandy really knows what she's doing and really dedicates her time to your cut. read more

I've been hair salon shopping for some time now, as it's been awhile since I've had an experience that made me want to commit to one (in terms of overall experience, quality, price, and location). I'm happy to say that I think I found a keeper with Hairsmith. I had a great all around experience getting my hair cut by Brandy. First of all, she gave me exactly the cut I wanted. She asked follow-up questions to be sure she understood exactly what I was looking for, and I was super happy with the results. She has a laid back vibe; conversing with her was comfortable and interesting but never felt forced, which is something that I've found is surprisingly rare among stylists. The salon is small but feels spacious, and it has plenty of charm. There are a few other things that set this salon apart to me. One is that you can book your appointment online, and it's super easy. The system sends you a confirmation email and/or text and a reminder shortly before the appoint (only if you indicate you want it to). For people like me who prefer to book reservations and appointments online, this is a really nice feature! Another thing is that in addition to being a good hairsmith, Brandy is obviously a really nice and genuinely caring person. For example, she gives senior citizens a big discount on haircuts because she saw that it was a need in the neighborhood, and you can tell they love her for it. One of them stopped by to say hello during my haircut, and there's another lady who always offers to get her coffee from Constellation when she passes by. She also gave me some insightful advice on alleviating a frizzy phase that my hair always goes through when it air dries, and offered to try to get a product that is hard to find in stores so that she'd have it for me the next time I came in. Finally, I got the sense that she cares a lot about giving her customers a good experience. She asked me for feedback about the online booking system and some other things about the salon space. These little details really made me feel comfortable and welcome, and I ended up with a great cut! I will definitely be coming back here for future haircuts and color. read more

I went to Brandy back when she was at Mint on Ellsworth. She was my favorite stylist to date in Pittsburgh, and unfortunately she left and started cutting hair on the Southside - a bit too far for me to make the trek regularly. After a long, long time of wandering between salons, trying to find a stylist and salon that could meet expectations - I never did. I finally searched Yelp for "brandy hair" and Hairsmith popped up. Apparently, she's been here, operating her own place for a year! I wish I'd known! The place is awesome, historic, and feels like a good cross between a barber shop and a salon. It is totally Brandy. Online booking is so convenient and awesome. I don't know why not everywhere offers this service. I do wish that it sent a calendar event so it would appear in my Google Calendar. Perhaps in the future. Regarding the haircut - I explained what I was kind of going for, and she listened, paid close attention to the shape of my head, the directions my hair grows, assessed potential issues with the cut ahead of time, was vocal about her plan and precisely what she was going to do, and what she was doing while she was cutting. She's detailed, but efficient about it. Her training was clearly excellent (I've had consistently good cuts from stylists who studied at Toni & Guy) and she seems to take pride in her work. She seems to particularly excel in short cuts, men's cuts, and asymmetric or European-inspired cuts. I haven't been this happy with a haircut is a long, long, time. It is good to be back :-) read more

I tried this salon for the first time this week and I will definitely be going back. Holly did an amazing job, and knew exactly how to cut and style my hair based on pictures I showed her and the texture/ wave of my natural hair. It's an even better perk that the salon is a small personable business and not a massive salon that always feels rushed and busy. Go see Holly, you won't regret it. read more

I haven't had such a pleasant experience with a hair stylist in a really long time. My hair is kind of a pain to cut--I have a ton, it parts kind of weird, and it lies somewhere between frizzy and curly all of the time, Brandy took her time and made me look great! I'll definitely be going back again to get my mane tamed. Also, she's just generally a rad lady to talk to. The space is beautiful, the price is right, and the skill and service are of high caliber. Thanks! read more

Hairsmith - Post haircut with Brandy! - Hair Salons Near Me - Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Brandy is awesome. I was struggling to find a solid stylist after moving back to the 'Burgh from L.A. She is better than anyone who's ever cut my hair. She listens intently to what you want and makes it happen (even better than you planned). She is a pro. She is also not trying to force conversation when you're there but is pleasant and interesting to talk to. The studio is gorgeous, in a historic building. She's typically the only one there so it's not crowded or stressful. Amazing experience. I'll be back! read more

It can be difficult finding someone who can cut my coarse Asian hair with an American sense of style. So I was incredibly happy to have found this place. It's a charming one-room salon and the stylist is super nice and gives me great cuts even though it seems I can never articulate what I'm looking for in. read more

Single-room salon nestled between Lawrenceville and Bloomfield with a great stylist. Go look at the IG for more examples of her work.

Stellar haircut for a great price. Owner is friendly and skilled. Yelp thinks those two sentences aren't long enough to count as a review, so here's another one. read more

I've been going here to get my hair cut for awhile and I have yet to be disappointed. The price is just right for Bloomfield/Lawrenceville, considering the cut is high quality and the owner/stylist is so thoughtful about what they're doing with your hair. They are very friendly but still somehow stay focused on your hair -- so you end up feeling like you're in good hands when you visit. The salon is just the right size and has everything you need for a solid haircut -- especially if you're a guy. But I imagine that the more stylish gals probably get killer cuts coming here, too. Anyway, I always come out looking better than I did going in and the style and cut I'm given lasts awhile. I'm very happy with Hairsmith. read more

Holly was awesome! She cleaned up my long hair, put in some cool layers, and styled my hair with a wave. I feel like I should be wearing fancier clothes because my hair looks so great! All the natural sunlight and cute plants in their clean, retro space was a treat. Thanks, Holly! I'll be coming back here for my next hair cut and I recommend you do the same! read more

I was lucky to pick Hairsmith as the first place to get my hair cut after moving to Pittsburgh. It's so great! Easy online booking and Brandy is super chill and gave me one of the best haircuts I've had in years. I came back a second time and had the same great results. I also got my hair colored from Anthony who just started there and he's equally as great. He was meticulous and focused on getting my hair light enough (it's very dark). And the result was great. The place is small and cozy. No frills in a good way. I sort of wish I could just hang out there. Highly recommended! Happy I don't have to try any other places in Pittsburgh, I've found the perfect one. read more

Brandy has been my stylist for 5 years now and I have never left an appointment unhappy. She is good at what she does and is a badass chic! You should totally make an appointment. read more

Brandy Lewis has been my stylist for 10 years now. She's done everything to my hair from sculpted, edgy, short, a-symmetrical cuts to long, LA-style highlights. She PAINLESSLY got me through that awkward growing-out stage, too. She understands my hair type and together we figure out what works best with my hair and my habits. The old-meets-new eclectic atmosphere of the new shop is comfortable and chic and makes for a great, personable experience. It fits in perfectly with the other small businesses in the Lawrenceville/Bloomfield neighborhoods. Prices are reasonable and competitive. I can easily book my appointments online. read more

Brandy is great. I had a moderately embarrassing haircut and she straitened it out into an emboldening one.

Brandy is a hair whisperer, I swear! She scolded me for not brushing my hair (I'm sorry! I hate brushing my hair!) in the sweetest way. When I was unsure as to what I wanted to do, she offered suggestions. I sent her pictures of what I liked but didn't feel confident they were exactly my style. She was honest, funny, kind, and helpful. In the end i ended up with the perfect hair style and cut. The highlights she did were superb and subtle enough for work but bold enough in the sunlight. She knows her stuff! She cares about the client and the outcome. She also as an adorable son who has some pretty rad hair. When she opened this shop I was ecstatic. I can't wait to get my hair done again. Which is saying a lot because I'm the type of girl that washes, conditions, and lets air dry. No brushing, no products, no heat, nothing. I wish I could have a mini Brandy in my home to style my hair every morning. It's never felt or looked better! If you're looking to change your stylist, look no further, Brandy is the answer to all of your hair problems! read more

I am so proud of Brandy!! She is doing her thing. Hairsmith (love the name!) is beautiful as is her art. My hair looks great.

Super cute salon in a great location. Great personal attention by the stylist. I will be back for highlights later on. I love quiet salons so this place is perfect. Highly recommend. read more

Brandy did an awesome job on my hair and her shop is intimate and comfortable. All the stars!

Brandy is one of those rare stylists who listens to you, understands what you're looking for AND delivers. She is the best at short cuts (for my husband, and when I had much shorter hair) and I'm always completely satisfied after she's cut my hair The space has an old-timey charm, having kept so many features from the original barbershop that was there for decades. Will keep going back! read more

Not impressed at all. I have a pixie cut. Showed Brandi how I like to wear my hair, with the bangs down, meaning the bangs need to be straight. Wish I'd taken a picture. My bangs were hilariously crooked, uneven, and shorter on both sides by the temples. Looked weird! She didn't trim my sideburns, didn't clean up behind my ears, and didn't touch my neck or the back hairline. She literally just trimmed random chunks of my hair and called it a day. Asked her about trimming the sideburns when she was 'done' and she said they look better long. Ummm...figured I could do that at home. Wish I'd been able to see the back. Brandi thinks that she knows what looks good and won't listen to what you want. Spent two days desperately trying to make this butchered cut look halfway decent. Gave up and pulled out the trimmers. This is where the overall unevenness was revealed. My boyfriend went to work on my neck. While he can't do a great job, it now looks 1000x better than when I walked out of this shop. I have to laugh because if I don't, I'll start crying about wasting $70 on this terrible haircut. Back to the barber for me... read more

I feel like a new lady! Brandy took her time and listened to all my ideas/concerns. Her shop is gorgeous. I love my haircut!

The haircuts I got here have been OK, but Brandy has twice canceled appointments within a few hours of the appointment. There are very limited hours to begin with, which means you have to schedule appointments during working hours/ plan to leave work early or take off. So, having appointments canceled the day of is a bit of a frustration. read more

I've been hunting for a great hair stylist here in Pittsburgh for almost a decade. By "great," I mean someone who will listen to what I like and what I know about my hair, and won't try to sell me a "system" with twenty different products. Someone who will give me a haircut that I -- a hairstyling klutz with the curling iron scars to prove it -- can actually maintain. Brandy at Hairsmith is the stylist I've been looking for. She not only did a fantastic job cutting my very straight and fine hair, but she also explained what she was doing and why. I left understanding how my hair was cut and the techniques she used to build in volume as she dried and styled it. Brandy also told me the types of products that she used so I could style it at home. She was friendly, great to talk with, and clearly brings lots of skill and experience to her work. The salon is a small, quiet space in an older building on Penn Ave, between Children's Hospital and 40th Street. I found side-street parking pretty easily, but you might want to leave a little time to find a space. Online booking was really easy, and I got an e-mail confirmation and reminders as well. Prices are quite reasonable (clearly listed on her website, with no surprises). I will be back. read more

Brandy is the only person I will let cut my hair.... literally. She listens and takes the time needed. Hair smith has also restructured their pricing, so it's by cut not gender, which is a giant win if you have short hair. I like short bangs, so if I dont think they are at a length I like, I can tell her and it's not an issue for her to take a few extra minutes to cut them to my preferred length an aditional bang trims basically come with the hair cut (), and touch ups are really affordable. She is the only person to have ever given my fine hair volume.... and shes just worth it. read more

Just got my first haircut here! It's a very small, intimate shop that manages to still feel so light and relaxing, and Brandy is just all around a lovely stylist. Just had my hair cut/ rescue with Anthony Albin. I had a haircut years ago that I loved from him while he was at a different salon. Since then, I have had mediocre cuts but didn't know how to locate Anthony. Much to my surprise, I found him on line after having just had an abysmal hair cut that left me with a 70's shag and rather desperate. I had low expectations as he was not starting with my former full head of long hair. And yet somehow he salvaged , what my husband referred to as "age appropriate hair" ugh!!! He listened carefully to my issues i.e. I have curly hair but usually flat iron but on occasion would like to be able to go curly and not have my hair look like a giant frizzy bowling ball which is what I came in with. He listened carefully and cut with precision and was able to deliver a modern, clean look that's sassy and yet controlled. The irony here is that I had given the previous hair stylist a photo of the cut I wanted but which was sadly not executed. I forgot the photo and had to describe the look to Anthony and he was able to deliver without any illustration just based on our conversation. It was so nice to be able to go home and have my husband say- "Your hair looks great now- what did you do?!" Anthony is truly gifted when it comes to hair and I am so happy and relieved to have found him again!! https://www.anthonyalbinhair.com/ read more
