Saturday as you know was the PHS prom. I took both girls up to Hair Port in Solomon's to have their hair done. My oldest daughter went first. She wanted a five strand braid with extensions added to her hair. The first thing out of the stylist mouth was, "I can't do a five strand braid." She was a bit snippy with the comment but I thought maybe she was embarrassed. My daughter responded with offering my help. I can do the braid but not with extensions. The woman rolled her eyes and started huffing. I asked my daughter to show her an alternative braid. The woman told my daughter she could do a fishtail braid. She looked the fishtail braid up on the internet and politely said she didn't like it. My daughter at this point realized that she had forgotten her hair piece. I do understand that this would have been frustrating for the stylist. I offered for her to do my other daughter's hair first instead and left to get the hair piece. When I returned the stylist had decided to work on the braid. It looked terrible! It wasn't where my daughter wanted it and pieces were sticking out everywhere. I know my daughter and she was not happy. She was frustrated and very close to tears. I put my hands on her shoulders and told her that if she didn't like it she needed to say something so it could be fixed. Again the woman replied by rolling her eyes and huffing. I told her to take a minute to decide if she wanted it done again. I told her that this was her senior prom and that she deserved to feel comfortable as well as beautiful. The stylist continued to huff and puff. I said very quietly to the stylist, "I'm going to need you to drop the attitude or we are leaving." She said, "Excuse me, what did you just say?" I said, "You heard me." She proceeded to walk away to the owner. So we left. I called today and spoke to the owner who was there on Saturday. His response to me was, "You spoke to JoAnne like a child and so I have no apology for you." My response, "I'm not sure if you have daughter(s) or have had them go to prom. If so then you know how important proms are and how nervous girls get. They deserve to be happy with their hair." His response, "Yes I do have daughters and they have been to prom. Everything was fine until you started to raise hell." At no point did I raise my voice, at no point did I raise hell. My daughter's hair looked like a child had done it and I was at a "professional" establishment. What happened to the customer being right? What happened to common courtesy? I was incredibly polite to this woman in the beginning and when I did say something it was very quietly. She walked away from us. If wanting the service to match the price is raising hell then I'm not sure his new business is going to last long. Margaret is no longer the owner. That is a shame! read more
