A taste of balayage highlights on the front pieces of my hair. Love the way Megan works with my thick hair. She coaxes out the good waves.

I've lived in NYC for 12 years now. I was on the hunt for a stylist that was just right for me for 7 years before I finally found Megan. Lifebooker brought me to her at a salon on the UWS, and for the past 5 years, I've been seeing her regularly to get my cuts, color (I'm not ready to go salt and pepper!) and blowout. She's so amazing that I followed her when she left the salon where I found her. I'm so glad she stayed in NYC, I would've been devastated if she left. I highly recommend seeing her. I've never been that great at expressing what I want in a style or color. I usually have a general idea but need advice. I used to bring in photos of styles/colors I liked and Megan was always honest about which one will work with my type of hair/coloring. She guides me to the ones that work and then we go from there. I need the guidance, and I completely trust her with her suggestions. I'll be taking the leap and going from brunette to golden balayage highlights with her soon. I had a taste of the balayage on the front pieces of hair with a red tinge and loved it. I honestly can't wait. She's also an American Board Certified Hair Colorist. You can trust her implicitly with your color. One more thing, she's super nice. Genuinely nice. She even came in on a day off to help me out with a blowout because I was frantic about a job interview. I can finally say I have a stylist I love. Check out her Instagram to see the different styles she does. https://www.instagram.com/meganreillyhairnyc/

Thanks Megan!!! My hair never looked better!

Megan was so awesome. I am normally described as a hot mess and Megan really helped me with a nice cut, a glossy beautiful color and gave me some tips on maintaining the look. The saloon is super cute! Thanks Megan!!!

I found Megan Reilly on Instagram... so many of her clients posted photos of their beautiful hair and spoke very highly of their experiences. I decided to do balayage for the first time and I absolutely love it. Megan is by far the most talented stylist! She is extremely professional, takes her time with you and does exactly what you ask her to do. She explains step by step in detail and makes sure you feel comfortable through the entire process. I have been to her salon twice and have zero complaints. Megan was very accommodating both times. I have had many horrible stylists in NYC promise me the best hair color/cut only to find myself unhappy and miserable with the end result (along with a hefty price for a bad haircut/color). Megan is very sweet and genuine, not many stylists care about their clients like Megan does. You will definitely be a satisfied customer.

I paid $480 for my appointment and left with hair that looked patchy and not like what we had discussed. While disappointing results can sometimes happen, what bothered me most was the complete lack of communication afterward. I reached out to Masaki on May 13 regarding my concerns and attempted to resolve the issue privately. I never received a response. It has now been about a month, and despite giving plenty of time for a reply, I have been ignored. I did not immediately leave reviews or make public comments because I wanted to give him the opportunity to address the situation directly. Unfortunately, that opportunity was never taken. For $480, I expected a higher standard of work and customer service. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend Masaki.

Updating my review: I used to come here because the haircuts were strong, but over time the…read moreexperience deteriorated significantly. Appointments became rushed, started late, and lacked even basic professionalism. You're barely greeted when you walk in, and the overall tone makes it feel like you're inconveniencing them just by being there. I told them multiple times I had a head injury from a concussion and the lack of care was very concerning how abrasively they washed and handled my head. My most recent appointment was a complete failure. I asked for a warm, golden brown and came prepared with multiple reference photos. While the color was processing, I clearly flagged that it was pulling purple. That concern was dismissed, and the product was left on longer. The result was the darkest my hair has ever been, almost black with a cool, purple hue. The exact opposite of what I requested. The color job is all mismatched, the lower part of my hair significantly darker, the roots are sloppy and uneven. When I pointed this out, the response was defensive and dismissive. At one point, I was sarcastically asked if I wanted to "bleach it," which is an inappropriate and careless suggestion for already fine hair. It was mind blowing to have this handled so poorly and then be rushed through a cut that does not look anywhere close to the quality of the past cuts. I followed up requesting a refund, given that this will take months to correct and fade, and received no response for over 48 hours. It's not even about the money - it's about the severe lack of respect. What's most surprising is that this level of defensiveness and lack of accountability was unacceptable, especially after such a grave mistake. Instead of thoughtful adjustment and ownership, the response was dismissive in the moment and silent afterward. Mistakes happen. How they're handled is what defines a business. This was not handled well. NYC has no shortage of salons that can deliver both technical skill and professionalism. This is not one of them. Updating this with a pic and additional NYC HAIR SALON SEO terms so future customers are warned since the salon has decided to block me after no satisfactory resolution. The pic at the top right was me pre-hair f*** up. Only come to this salon if you'd like to come home and cry.

I went back recently to bleach my hair and I was so shocked by how good it came out - and in only 4-5 hours! He's definitely a professional and knows what he's doing especially when it comes to dying/bleach/toning and cutting short Asian hair to fit my face shape. I rarely need to tell him to fix or that I'm not satisfied with my hair; I trust his process and he's never failed me.

I asked for ash brown (which I usually get) but I got a way lighter color than expected and the bleach (he went over the bleach twice) really damaged my hair. On top of that, they charged me for a haircut I never asked for. During the balayage, the stylist cut/thinned (no idea what he did because he never asked me) some of my hair (maybe 10 "snips"?) and they later charged me an additional $70 for the "haircut." This really pissed me off because in the middle of my appointment, I even heard an assistant ask in Mandarin "is she getting a haircut?" and the stylist shook his head. I was really unhappy with my hair that I went to get a hair treatment (for the dry, damaged hair) and toner at a different salon a week later. That stylist even asked "who did your hair?"

My hairdresser was wonderful. Great shampooing job and she was very precise and careful when cutting. Also good at communicating and making sure I was happy with the cut. My haircut was $65, but be warned: if you do the "haircut and blow dry" it's $130. To be honest I don't even know what that means because she dried my hair... with a blow dryer... I guess she didn't style it? But anyways, if you're just looking for a basic cut make sure to communicate that so you don't accidentally double the cost of your haircut. The interior was super clean and everyone there was very friendly. The woman working the front offered me water, tea, or coffee when I arrived and hung my coat in the back.
