Like many others, a long time ago I used Lifebooker on a whim and discovered a great salon on the UWS. Loved the salon, but the stylists were hit-or-miss depending on who I got, but I kept going back and trying different stylists. Went through maybe 3 different stylists until I got Megan....and it was happily ever after! I've been going to her ever since and followed her to her new location. I'd follow this girl to the end of the moon for my haircuts! Do you KNOW how hard it is to find a hair stylist you love? That is consistent and good? Of course you do, otherwise you wouldn't be scouring yelp comparing and reading reviews!! Here's how you know you have a great cut....recently a got a new cut from Megan, 3 weeks later one morning I was running late and literally rolled outta bed, threw on clothes and got ready and ran out in 10min flat. Never got time to do my hair, just finger combed it. Got to work and looked at my hair, it still looked amazing. Like so amazing I had to go hunt her down on instagram and DM her to tell her how amazing it looked. THATS a good cut, when it looks good styled, tossed, bed-headed, and even drenched in the rain. It's like witchcraft. I don't know what she did with those scissors. Magic. The best thing about Megan is she listens, like reallyyyyy listens to what you want and works with you. She doesn't just nod and then do what she wants. At the same time if you ask for something that is a bad idea (because face it, we've all made bad 'on-a-whim' hair decision in our life based on whatever is trending) she will tell it to you straight and work with you on how to get what you want and still look AMAZING for your hair type and face shape. I've been raving about her for years and have started recommending and sending my friends uptown to her. Worth the trek!!! Plus there is a Levain cookie right around the corner from her salon, and it has NO line. For people that know Levain, you know what I'm talking about when I say 'no line". I've lived in NYC for 12 years now. I was on the hunt for a stylist that was just right for me for 7 years before I finally found Megan. Lifebooker brought me to her at a salon on the UWS, and for the past 5 years, I've been seeing her regularly to get my cuts, color (I'm not ready to go salt and pepper!) and blowout. She's so amazing that I followed her when she left the salon where I found her. I'm so glad she stayed in NYC, I would've been devastated if she left. I highly recommend seeing her. I've never been that great at expressing what I want in a style or color. I usually have a general idea but need advice. I used to bring in photos of styles/colors I liked and Megan was always honest about which one will work with my type of hair/coloring. She guides me to the ones that work and then we go from there. I need the guidance, and I completely trust her with her suggestions. I'll be taking the leap and going from brunette to golden balayage highlights with her soon. I had a taste of the balayage on the front pieces of hair with a red tinge and loved it. I honestly can't wait. She's also an American Board Certified Hair Colorist. I found Megan during a random search on Instagram, i was so impressed by what i saw of her work online, yet from the photos and the reviews online it's high end work without the stupid snooty high end attitude (and extortionate prices!) Even before my appointment i was impressed that she reached out to ask me for photos and ideas of what am looking for. Just this attention to detail for clients is super rare in this busy city. I arrived with my tired frizzy brassy washed out awful red - she turned it into a super shiny chocolate-red and she somehow managed to cut through what had become almost a mullet (!) into a decent haircut. Can't wait till my short layers grow so she can work with them. The price is fair for the skill and attentive high quality work. She's great company too, real pleasure to visit. I loved, loved my experience with Megan. Here's the story on why... My whole life I have been dissatisfied with hair stylists. I feel like none of which I've gone to have listened to clearly understand what I want- instead they just did what they thought to be best. And in the end game, I never felt "wow!" after an appointment. I just felt like "ugh, I wasted a few hundred dollars when I could've done this at home." Then Megan enters into my life! I went to her for an initial consultation where she advised me so well on the steps I needed to take to achieve what I envisioned. She was really sweet and really helpful! My first appointment with her, she applied gloss to the section of my hair with most brass which helped tremendously and gave me the best haircut I've ever had! I really, really love the cut. And it was so quick! She knows what she's doing. My second appointment she applied balayage type highlights to where I was previously brassy and they look amazing. I'm so happy with the overall work. I'm trying to blend out my roots because I don't want such a harsh line, while still feeling light. She set me up for success here My hair and color have so much depth, I'm beyond thrilled! So as far as artistic talent- she's SO got it. But on top of that, she is SOOOO SWEET! She ensured I was comfortable in so many ways throughout all of the sessions, from not having sun in my face, to offering me something to drink, magazine, the list goes on. I decided to do balayage for the first time and I absolutely love it. Megan is by far the most talented stylist! She is extremely professional, takes her time with you and does exactly what you ask her to do. She explains step by step in detail and makes sure you feel comfortable through the entire process. I have been to her salon twice and have zero complaints. Megan was very accommodating both times. I have had many horrible stylists in NYC promise me the best hair color/cut only to find myself unhappy and miserable with the end result (along with a hefty price for a bad haircut/color). Simply put, Megan is the best. I've stayed with her for the past three years (despite moving farther and farther away from her location), and it's because she always does such an excellent job. It's hard to find a colorist who can get the right dark blonde tone and make sure that it grows out flawlessly. Added bonus: she's a delightful person. I can't recommend her highly enough! read more

Pro: I still have hair. She does try to maintain the integrity of the hair and my hair is still in decent shape. Con: I ended up with blotchy, orangey hair with some color bleed on some blonde and brown/orange parts. I had some color bleed in some spots. When I called, she did offer to fix the color bleed. She said the orange hair required another session. When I was on my way to the salon, I was coming from Long Island. Travel time took 2-3 hours. The train skipped my stop. I ended up running late. I texted her to let her know that I am on my way but running late due to train trouble. My appointment was at 3:15. She had another appointment at 4. She responded that if I was going to be past 3:30, that it was not going to work. She did not offer another time for that day or any alternatives. I then told her that I understood and also let her know that it took me more than 2 hours to come to the city to see her. Once I sent that message to her, she then offered to see me at 4:30. Had I not told her about my travel time, I don't think she would have made that offer. I understand that time is money. I totally understand that as a business owner. But I did not get the feeling that she wanted to help me. She did say that she wanted to help but unfortunately, I did not get that vibe. I am not satisfied with the uneven orange hair and she did not offer to help with that since I guess I would have to pay to bleach it again. Ultimately, I decided not to see her that day and ended up going back to Long Island. It was a waste of time and money to travel out there for nothing. This was my experience. Take it with a grain of salt. I came to her because of the reviews that I saw on Yelp and from Instagram. Unfortunately, my hair did not come out the way that I would like but I do appreciate that I still have hair and that she tried to maintain the integrity of the hair. In the end, she did offer the 4:30pm option, which I declined. read more

I was referred to Megan by a friend of mine because I was having trouble finding a stylist. The color I like runs down a fine line of not too blonde/not too dark and it can be tricky. I felt like I was always having to come back and have something fixed/lightened/darkened with other stylists I've had over the years. I've only gone to Megan twice now, but I'm so happy my friend recommended her!! The first time I did have to go back (for an incredibly MINOR fix), but Megan was so sweet about it and understood.
