I've been to a few salons/studios and nothing felt right. I've been from queens to the UES.. I combed through yelp reviews and instagram and came across Essence and was really excited to solidify services with her! I went in for a Brazilian and underarm wax and half way through the waxing I honestly forgot that I was getting waxed! Essence is beyond kind, and makes you feel comfortable immediately (not in that cheesy.. small talk waxer way) but her energy and presence is effortlessly calming, friendly, and I felt like we could talk for hours. If you are looking for someone to wax who is through, gentle, meticulous, and sanitary.. I say book with Essence. She's knowledgeable about products, skin care, has hella skin tips, and you will want to keep talking long after the wax! She's also an educated m black woman who is amazing at her craft!! It was really poorly done. To Marion's credit, she fixed it after I returned an hour later but I still did not get the look I hoped for. So, just as a precautionary suggestion: If you have locs and want them highlighted, go to someone who is a colorist of locs. Marion is very good at other hair styles, but I would not go to her to have my locs colored again. I respect Marion's work in general, but do your research.

I simply advised the owner that her website said something different and she got an attitude and started coming at me like I was trying to haggle her for a different price. Straight up rude and disorganized. The quality of my hair wasn't even all that!

Not only does Donna hook you up proper with her clippers (instead of the usual waxing, threading or tweezing you get at the nail shop or other sub-par establishments that claim to do eyebrows), she added a little extra oomph by filling in the brows and adding complimentary basic make-up. Her 20+ years of make-up artistry makes her extremely knowledgable about what she does and her body, facial and bath products smell heavenly. I've been traumatized since leaving your salon this week. I booked with Hally as wash, blow dry,…read moresteam condition trim and flat iron. She said she didn't steam condition. She washed and blew out my hair and when she was going to trim it I asked how the health of my hair looked. My hair WAS butt length. Natural. Yes I color it at home, but I take really good care of my hair. Hally asked if I wanted a trim or a cut for health and showed me what she said was transparent at the bottom of my hair which was approximately 4-5 inches. I said okay. Considering my hair is very long and a trim of about 4 inches will not make a huge dent. I agreed. When I got up from the chair there was soooooooo much hair on the floor. I immediately said to her that it looked like a lot of hair. She sat me by the dryers and when I went to feel my hair I stopped breathing. I couldn't talk. She curled it with the flat iron which wouldn't allow me to get the true gravity of the amount cut. She cut my butt length hair to almost the middle of my back. My hair is all uneven. Some pieces hit under my shoulder blade. It just choppy. It's horrible. In all my years getting my hair trimmed or cut, I've never experienced this. The time it will take for me to get my hair back to this length for me will probably take a year or more because of the unevenness. I'm just so sad from this experience. I even called her at the salon that night to express my anger and disappointment because I went home and stayed in the house to try to process this experience. I can not fathom why someone would think it is okay to chop someone's hair off like that and then gaslight me by saying "it'll grow back in 6-8 months. I know how to grow hair". I grew my hair. I didn't have a problem with that. I didn't go in for help to treat unkept hair or hair that was over processed and broken off. The insult at the end is that I paid for this. But in actuality I paid twice figuratively.

I'm not picky and my hair is stock straight black Taiwanese/Chinese hair so it doesn't require anything out of the ordinary. I don't think much has changed at this spot which used to be Eden Salon & Spa except the owner. Some of the stylists are still around, like Lidia, who has been there for 10 years. I came here because I happened to walk by and see a sign that said they braid hair. I showed the…read morewoman a photo of what I wanted, 4 cornrows that go into a low bun. She grabbed a bunch of braiding hair that was not at all the color of my hair so she sent someone to go buy some. They came back with braiding hair that also did not match my hair color. She claimed that once she started braiding it wouldn't be apparent but the braid started to look bulky so I asked her to just braid my real hair, it's long enough. She had a bit of an attitude once I asked her to not use the fake hair. Against my better judgement I let her finish. To top it off she took scissors and start cutting away fly always, from my real hair!! I got home to find that the parts were not even and braids were all different sizes. Please do not bother.
