Five stars all around for the excellent customer service that Hairology Salons offers. Back when I attended RU, I would frequent this place at least once a year. However now that my college days are well in the past l, I haven't been here in about 5 years. Despite that, I requested a service super late minute (on a Thursday for a Friday request) and although there wasn't much of any notice on my part, LA did a wonderful job squeezing me in and keeping me updated on logistics, etc. Please note that Hairology now functions as an in-home service, which I loved. The stylist showed up at my house even earlier than our appointment time, but it was great. My stylist Jayda was quick, professional and she achieved the exact look I wanted. Ok so let's start by saying LA is freaking amazing when it comes to customer service. I called last minute for bundles and install. He was complete booked for the week but being the man that he is he created magic.. he found a stylist willing to take me early morning. Not only that but he accommodated my schedule and personally met up with me to acquire the hair for the install. If 10 stars was an option he got it. Next the girl that installed was on time precise and did more than everything I wanted she had me out in an hour and some change... I've always been a customer but let me tell you this blew out the park it's like LA evolved his business above all others. Def a go to lady's!!! read more

Scheduling was super easy and worked with my schedule even during the holidays. Jayde showed up early and was professional, worked fast, and did exactly what I asked for. This review is for the New Brunswick location. This is my new favorite spot to go when I need a weave done without spending an entire day in a salon. Not to mention not drilling a hole in my wallet. I was so use to those overpriced high end salons where a full head and style easily added up to 275 or more, but the day I got my hair done at this place, I was like "get the f@&# out of here?!?", I was in and out in less than 2 hours and not to mention my hair looked like a million bucks. I was a fan. Until my last visit...now I'm hooked. My last visit was probably the best I've had, my stylist was Serena (or Selena), when I say this girl worked my hair! I mean I was impressed. And that takes A LOT!! She sewed it up perfectly nice and flat, and I wasn't sure about her cutting my hair since I usually leave the cutting to myself but she talked me into it and it was so happy she did. She was so precise, and make it shape my face so perfectly. My hair looked and still looks amazing. If you are making an appt, and want your hair cut perfectly I would advise to spend a little extra to book an appt with her because I sure as heck am. Bottom line, make your appt here. Update: still very impressed with Evette, she is my go to stylist. But the appointment slots appear to be over booked. So a 3.5 hour appointment turns into a 4 hour ordeal. I had a bit of an issue with a wash, but the owner followed up and rectified the matter. Overall, I would still recommend Hairology. Just find a stylist you like and stick to him or her. Great salon. They were able to take me without issue, surcharge, etc. I was introduced to Evette. She's knowledgeable and very friendly. She did an amazing job on my hair. She educated me about my install down to the type of sewing thread that should be used. I'm also impressed by the efficiency and professionalism of this salon. For example, the owner acknowledged all of his customers and made sure everyone (including his stylists) were given refreshments. This demonstration of detail exudes a level of care, attention, and experience. In addition, Hairology is open seven days a week and is fully staffed. This may seem like an unimportant detail. However, it is extremely convenient for folks who can't make daytime appointments and/or work beyond the typical 9-5. Hairology is more than reasonably priced. Their prices are prominently posted so you know exactly what you are purchasing upfront. The affordability of this salon brought me in; but the expertise and quality of craftsmanship has earned my patronage. I'm very impressed. read more

I have been to this salon only a handful of times, I will say it is the most courteous place I have ever been to. I came to the salon for my appointment( on time) but a few minutes later the manager told me that my stylist called out which I wasn't too happy about. They were able to call someone to come in and get me started while I waited for another stylist. The manager offered me snacks and water, also went out and paid my meter for me so that I wouldn't get a ticket. I was also offered a discount for being inconvenienced. I'm not to happy about waiting, but they made an unexpected experience a better one. The stylists here all seem to know what they are doing. I definitely will be coming back. New to the area and was looking for a place to get my hair done and make my new salon, but ended up walking out and traveling all the way back to South Jersey to get my hair done because at least I know the service is much better and reliable. read more

I visited the weave shop in Bloomfield this past weekend as a walk-in. I was very skeptical about this since I didn't want to spend all day in a salon. I walked in at 9:04 am and I was already #9 on the list! There were 7 stylists there and they began working immediately! By 9:20 I was in a chair and getting braided. My braider was named Naya (I think) and she did a good job. She asked exactly what I wanted, and gauged the tightness while braiding. She showed me in the mirror the amount of hair she left out for edges which was well appreciated. This is important to me as I need to be able to do a ponytail, without having tracks showing. She also offered to oil my scalp afterwards. HUGE PLUS! out of the 7-8 stylists working, it seems that only 6 of them weave, and this young lady was just a braider so I had to move onto another stylist. I have no problem with this as I have never had the same person braid and weave anyway. I then waited a brief 10-15mins afterwards to have the weaved sewed in. My stylist was Shawn and he was AMAZING! Very quick, personable and I could tell he was enjoying doing my hair. I was out of the salon by 11:15!!! I gave the salon 4 stars for timeliness, helpfulness, cleanliness and end product. Exactly what you ask for is what you pay for, there are no hidden costs whatsoever. My only dislike is that they use a double tracking method, and I prefer single tracking, It still lays flat, but I don't think it will last as long. We will see. I am extremely picky about my weaves because I have long hair naturally, and I don't want jacked up weaves when realistically I can just comb my own hair. I prefer the convenience of having a weave though and decided to try this salon out. so $70 well spent and I look great! The stylist who got stuck with me was furious, ( and ghetto might i add) she kept sucking her teeth and hesitated to take me. LAWD!!!! Where do I begin?????? So I have been going to the New Brunswick location of year...YEARS...circa 2010. The concept is simply ingenious, a salon specializing solely on weave services. A couple years ago, this was a foreign concept but now it seems like 'weave shops' are on every coroner in just about every metro area. Although, I have been coming here for years does not mean I am satisfied. But living in central NJ there aren't that many weave salon options. So this place has a HIGH turn around rate. Most stylists do not last 1.5 years. Perhaps because most of the girls are recent cosmetology school graduates and are looking to get their foot in the industry and build-up their clientele (that do not include besties and girls from your block). I have been going to Tasha for years. IMO she is the best stylists in that shop. And from my understanding she is the lead stylist. I do not have any complaints about her work. She does a solid job every time. And since I have been going to her for years; she knows that I can be a little picky with my products (I am natural yall). I have had Yvette press my weave. She is middle age and from the islands. This lady is soooooooo slow. She does quality work but she is very slow and meticulous with just about everything..lool...You will see what I am talking about when you go. But as for the overall ambiance? I joke with my girlfriends that going to the Weave Shop is like sitting in a collegiate level Anthropology course. What don't you see or hear? Between the loud music playing in the background; the Tyler Perry movie on the big flat screen; the stylists being non-productive and goofing off with one another; or the incompetent front desk staff and manager (Reed--he has dreads). But you get what you paid for. If you are looking for a posh setting for beauty services this is NOT the place. And lastly-- I have called the Weave Shop on several occasions to get a price quote for custom-made U-part wigs. I called about 3 weeks ago and the staff member informed me of the price point and that I will need an in-person consultation. CHIILLLLLDDDDDDDD...I called a couple days ago to start the process and was informed that NO one in the shop do custom order wigs. So I politely informed them that I was told otherwise a couple weeks ago. Reed (the useless franchise manager) said he was going to investigate and call me back. I am still waiting for his phone call. So unprofessional!!!!! Anyway-- buyer beware. This is not the celebrity for the stars salon. This is for the New Brunswick location only. Do NOT go on a Saturday. Saturdays are walk in only days only. The shop opens at 9 I arrived at 10:30 am. The line ahead of me was ridiculous. There were 6 stylists and the receptionist told me they were short 1 girl. I arrived at 10:30 am I didn't get to a seat until 3:30 pm!!! I waited 5 hours to get in a chair just for the stylist to tell me she's going to charge me an extra 25 dollars for sewing in all the tracks in the two packs of hair that I bought. (Keep in mind the contract says there is an additional charge for using only one pack of hair or using more than two packs if hair. ) I didn't know that there would be a fee for using all of the two packs you are required to bring. Annoying. On top of that the service was lousy. I had been waiting for 5 hours just for my stylist to be making phone calls leaving her station to talk to other stylists show what's on her phone to other stylists moving around talking joking while the stylist next to her started a head after me and finished before I was done! It took an hour to sew my hair up and an hour and a half to sew the hair in I really can't. As far as the finished product I wasn't fully satisfied. I wanted most if my hair in and a little leave out but of course that's an extra charge too! I don't know what was up with today but I never had to pay that much here on a day during the week. It also depends on what stylist you go to..too. If you're okay with dishing out extra cash for what the agreement says won't be charged additional go right ahead they have free bags of chips and water. read more

The stylists were friendly; the owner was attentive; the prices were posted; snacks & waters were provided; reasonably timed service. Overall good experience for a weave. I came in with my hair washed & blow dried because they charge $25 to take a weave off & wash before redoing your hair. I only paid $70 which is the cheapest sew-in that I've ever gotten. The only down side is that everything is a la cart. For example a shampoo & blow dry is $15 but you have to add $20 for flat ironing & another $25 for deep conditioning so it actually comes out as expensive as another salon, however, it is your choice. Likewise, the $50 weave doesn't include a cut to make it look more natural, that's extra. Again, it's posted so you know just what you're getting into. read more

I would highly recommend this salon! Similar to other reviews, the overall experience leaves you satisfied and feeling like a million bucks. The owner is very responsive and knowledgable about hair. I've been going here for quite some time and I appreciate how they continue to improve the quality of service (i.e. bundles, stylists with better range) and types of services (i.e. lashes, wigs, etc.). The stylists look at you as people and not just heads in a chair. They will make sure you get exactly what you are paying for. Normally, I am tender-headed so I shy away from certain braiders but I can come here without having my edges yanked out. Random: They give snacks, the music is great, it has a homegirl feel to it. I'm going to start this review by simply saying, please read before stepping foot into this salon(or lack thereof) I needed to get my hair done to go on vacation that same weekend. I want to start off with the first "worker" I came into contact with; Charisma. At first, you'd think this girl who wasn't hiding the fact she was sweating profusely with her lashes hanging off her face would actually be interested in helping one of the 3 customers in the shop at the time. I should've known at that point I needed to walk out and find a legitimate salon. I had previously spoken with the owner which I'm guessing she had no knowledge of. One look at me and she gave me a rate that was way over what I was promised. After telling her I spoke with her boss, she ran to the back to make a phone call, came back and said she should really charge me more for what she would be doing to my hair. I called the owner had everything settled(or so I thought) to be getting what I wanted. I had dark brown hair and wanted balayage done to it and also add in extensions. She had no idea what she was doing. 4 hours in and no toner applied, I was horrified with the results. If I had known she had never bleached hair before I would've walked out midway. So $400 spent and I was an extremely unhappy customer. I spoke with the owner and he asked me to come in for a consultation. I go into the shop, ignored, still trying to give them another chance. An hour into me coming in on my day off to only have my hair looked at, he told me another worker would fix the mess Charisma made to my hair. I trusted Freddie who was the one who would fix my hair. He agreed with my concerns agreeing that Charisma had never done hair before and should not have done it in the first place saying she damaged it beyond repair. So I come in again for the final time. Before this I spoke with the owner letting him know exactly what I wanted which is what I wanted the first time. Each time coming in, I showed them all the same pictures. The last time coming in, I was there for 6 hours!!! Only to be reminded that no one there knew what they had to do. Again, I waited for them to contact the owner who apparently had not relayed the message to Freddie. Freddie did what he thought would be up to par. Only to finally get out of there and not be reminded how badly my hair was getting damaged, I decided to leave and be out $400. I told the owner again that my hair was not what I expected. He went on by telling me I should've told him what I wanted even though I told them from the start?? He also expressed his concerns to me saying he is also frustrated because he had to pay 3 separate people to fix my hair and extensions that were also put in incorrectly by Charisma that Freddie could not fix so it was up to Sophia to fix it. I was really confused and utterly appalled by how they ran things there. This is NOT a professional shop. I would've felt more comfortable driving to Newark to someone's basement to get my hair done. Only then maybe my hair would look exactly how I wanted it to. If only I had more time to look into other shops in the area. So if you're in the area, for your own sake, DO NOT GO HERE! If you care about your hard earned money, go somewhere where you feel like you're being well taken care of. Not a hole in the wall that makes you feel as badly as their shop looked. read more

After years of going to a Dominican salon, I realized my hair was thinning and becoming dull. Although I always gotten it relaxed, it used to be longer, thicker, with a nice sheen to it. I wanted to give my hair a break, especially since I travel a lot during the summer. I was looking for a place to get some braids done on Yelp. I came across Hairology and got into contact with them to check the prices for extensions and crochet Senegalese twists. After a couple days and sending in a pic, I got a quote. I arrived on time for my appointment a few days later prepared for extension twists. But after my consultation, they urged me to get crochet twists instead. Unfortunately that meant I had to exchange what I had on hand the day of. Luckily the beauty supply store next door had some in stock. I'm not sure if the stylist I had lacked experience with crochet braiding but the cornrow pattern she originally chose had me going next door twice to get more braids. It wasn't until I got home and woke up the next morning that I realized how much hair she ended up crocheting into my hair. It was heavy, unstylable, and gave me an excruciating headache. I called the next morning to see if I could come back so the stylist could fix it. Thankfully they were able to squeeze me in within a couple hours. It wasn't until my stylist asked another one for help that she realized what she did wrong. My cornrow pattern should have been simpler and thicker and twists should have been spaced out more because they were jumbo sized. I suppose it was a learning experience for the both of us. With the other stylist's help, she redid the crochet twists and it came out FAB-U-LOUS! It's lighter, I can style it and fits comfortably into my lifestyle. I get compliments all the time! They were very professional and considerate in dealing with my concerns. They could've easily said no or charged me extra or gave me attitude, neither occurred. If good customer service means totally satisfying the customer, I give them 4 stars. I did lose about $40 and time running back and forth buying hair I did not need though :( Unlike my old salon, during my consultation, I got the impression that they really care about maintaining the health of your hair vs just making a buck. I hope that's true because I'm looking for a new salon. I look forward to returning and trying out some other non-chemical and/or protective styles while I rehab my mane. I should note that during my visits, I did not see anyone else getting any sort of braids so I'm not sure how often they have someone braiding on staff or how typical my experience was. But again I came in ready to fight and they handled the situation politely and professionally. I was there for a total of 8 hours over 2 days and I did observe some gorgeous weave work. I paid close to $200 for a full weave instalment and I could not be more dissapointed, I have natural 4c type hair and the stylist that did my hair seemed to be in a rush and made that very clear. The right side of my head is elevated and was very poorly installed. Never again. read more

Update #2 The owner, (L.A.) had reached out to me and he felt terrible about my experience and offered to completely redo the work at no charge as well as replace the hair that was stolen from me. I must say, I was impressed with his level of professionalism. He made me feel like a valued customer and the woman he brought in to redo my unit was fabulous! She was professional and sweet. She listened and made me feel as though I were the only one in the room. Having had this experience, I believe the incident that happened to me at this store was an isolated one and the shop should not be penalized for the individual's crime. I'm leaving my original review as a history of this, however, I am completely satisfied at this point. I will be coming back if ever in town. Update #1 : Owner is working with me to resolve the situation, will update with resolution! Original Review: HORRIBLE! I'm not from New Jersey and I had a business trip in NY. I wanted the "only girl who made wigs there" to make a unit out of my 4 bundles - which by the way, only looks like 1. I had thought 2 or 2 and a half but putting it in a ponytail, I can obviously see that it is one bundle and Herhaircompany is generous with their bundles. I think they stole the rest as this is virgin $500 Brazilian hair. (1 x 4 Bundle Deal - Brazilian Wavy (BUNDLE: 16INCH, 18INCH, 20INCH & 22INCH ) is what I had purchased from HerHairCompany. I didn't think I would have to worry about leaving my hair for an hour as this is a store. I was wrong. I went there and at first I liked it, because of the greeter and the server but I noticed blatant unprofessional-ism. The woman who made me wig said it could be done in an hour. She charged me $200 for a hot mess. She claimed she didn't make her wigs "wiggy" but that's how it came out. I don't know where she learned to install but she basically did a tack job. My mother even looked at it when I came home and she said that I could've done a better job, I who do not have any experience at all. I asked her for combs and she made a big deal about it. Ok so maybe it breaks my hair (never had wigs with combs which did that. Of course you remove with care. Nobody should be snatching off their wig.) the combs she used were flimsy and awful. Then she unprofessionally tells the girl next to her, "I told her not to get combs but she insists on getting them. I told her was a bad idea but that's her choice," like I'm not standing right there. I AM PAYING SO WHO CARES WHAT YOU THINK?? Rude! Not to mention the tracks had ginormous spaces in between them. I tried out TWS yesterday and I must say that I came out pleasantly surprised! The receptionist was very friendly, the shop was very well kept. I arrived at my scheduled appointment time, and was seen within 10 minutes tops. The shop manager was there, and he walked through frequently to keep a look on things, and was very attentive to the customers. My stylist was Tasha, she was very well informed and experienced on her craft and able to answer all of my questions/concerns. I chose the Silver Package (I think that was the name of it), because I wanted layers cut into my hair, it layed very nicely, she cut and styled it perfectly! I will definitely return! SJ read more

Was a but apprehensive about the skills of the young lady who did my hair, but minus a few mistakes that she quickly rectified, I left satisfied with the final overall outcome. This is the best hair salon hands down! I walked in with a matted wet and wavy weave (bcuz I kept it in too long) and the stylist gave me great recommendations on how to care for my natural and for another weave. I purchased the wavy hair from the salon which I can wash and reuse. I now know that you should get retouches every 3 weeks and a new weave install every 10 weeks with the same hair. I went on NYE which was a walk in only day. There were about 10 people before me when i arrived around 12:30pm. I was out by 4:40pm. Most of the time was spent waiting to be braided but the services were done rather quickly. Nadia installed, trimmed, and flat ironed my hair. WARNING DO NOT GO HERE!!!!!!! This place used to be the weave shop and I always had a good experience there. Now it's hairology. I scheduled an apt for 12 pm the day before on a Sunday, and drove from Pennsylvania to New Jersey just to get my hair done which is 2 hours btw. I called them to let them know I'll be there at 12:15 pm. But then they told me oh, we were gonna call you to come at 1 pm because their backed up anyway ok. So I showed up at 1 pm. 2 stylists were there and BOTH had customers. I was like are you kidding me? So they told me oh we are backed up can you come back at 3 pm. GUESS WHAT !!! I CAME BACK AT 3 and they STILL HAD SOMEONE ELSE, and only 1 stylist and told me to wait another hour. I SAID HELL FUCKING NO!!! I WAITED OVER 4 hours for an apt that should have started at 12 pm. The stupid owner of this place is unorganized, unprofessional and a complete idiot who shouldn't own a business. He called me to tell me he would give me 20% for waiting 4 hours and driving 2 hours? Are you kidding me, any other professional business would at least give me half off, or even free. Despicable. Then he hung up. THIS PLACE IS DISGUSTING AND COMPLETELY UNPROFESSIONAL. This is exactly why black businesses fail, they could not care less about the customer!!! Even though the customers are the reason your in business!!!!! This place needs to be shut down. I wasted my whole day driving from pa to Nj just to not be served. Why is it so difficult to keep apts? Can these people not count?
