I came on a Friday afternoon and saw Kate. I was taken back almost immediately and we got started. I wanted to donate my hair so we started with her separating it and getting it cut. Then we moved to washing and then I got it cut and styled. I told Kate the length I wanted my hair to be and that I wanted long layers and she did an amazing job listening to me and I got exactly what I wanted. The entire time Kate was awesome and we chatted so much it made the appointment fly by. I absolutely love my hair and I am so happy I finally got it cut. Having a foot less of hair has made my hair loss a bit less painful to see and it is so manageable and feels so nice and healthy! The salon offers so many services and is huge! There is a room for everything and I know that I will come back in the future for more services when I am in the area.

Most others have cut it so that it is too long and becomes a big, poofy mess. I have tried straightening it over the years and that doesn't work either. He cut it just the right, shoulder-length so that I didn't feel self-conscience leaving it down. He also showed me a foolproof way to cut my own bangs so I didn't have to keep coming back every three weeks to have him trim them. My hair now takes very minimal attention from me and looks great! I have gotten compliments from colleagues, and even from my teenaged daughter (who is usually very critical of my appearance). He also charges a very reasonable price for his excellent expertise. I can't tell you how happy I am that I took a friend's advice to go to him. The salon is in a strange location, behind some apartment buildings and I was a little wary when I first drove up. I am a curly haired gal and- let me tell you- I have experienced some pretty awful haircuts in Upstate New York. Lots of places advertise curly cuts, "devacuts", yaddah yaddah- but they truly have no idea what they are doing. I can't tell you how many times I have had to go to NYC for rescue haircuts. ENTER JOLENE AND BIJOU.... if you want a great curly cut, this is where you should be going. Jolene is a genius- she truly understand the dynamic nature of curls and takes her time getting a lay of the "curl land" before she starts snipping. She starts with a dry cut to make sure she doesn't take too much... then she proceeds with the wash and dry process... and then- the grand finale- more styling at the end. She cut my hair before my wedding last July- it was perfect. And she just rejuvenated my mop of hair again today. I find the prices to be very, very fair. As an aside, everyone wears masks at the salon, and they check your temp and employ mandatory hand washing when you first walk in. If you have curly hair and are living in upstate New York/Syracuse, you must try this place.

I asked if the mistake could have been made on their end, because I had the appointment on my calendar for weeks and remember making it. The other person was not there. They made me wait for 20 minutes, not telling me whether or not they would take me, just saying, "You're not in the book." Meanwhile, the other person did not show up and did not answer their phone when they called her. I told the receptionist I was starting to get frustrated with the situation, because I know I'd made the appointment. After 20 minutes the stylist came out and said that she would not take me because I'd been rude to the receptionist. I was in disbelief and asked her, "Chelsea, Are you really not going to take me? This mistake must have been on your end, and I've been looking forward to this appointment for weeks". She merely told me that her "heart was racing and it wasn't good for her so I'd have to reschedule" Never in our interaction did they acknowledge that the mistake could have been on their end, and they treated me horribly. I'm 72 years old and have never been accused of being rude by a shop in my life. Bijou has no idea how to treat their customers. Their arrogance is beyond belief.
