Most others have cut it so that it is too long and becomes a big, poofy mess. I have tried straightening it over the years and that doesn't work either. He cut it just the right, shoulder-length so that I didn't feel self-conscience leaving it down. He also showed me a foolproof way to cut my own bangs so I didn't have to keep coming back every three weeks to have him trim them. My hair now takes very minimal attention from me and looks great! I have gotten compliments from colleagues, and even from my teenaged daughter (who is usually very critical of my appearance). He also charges a very reasonable price for his excellent expertise. I can't tell you how happy I am that I took a friend's advice to go to him. The salon is in a strange location, behind some apartment buildings and I was a little wary when I first drove up. Once I got inside, I found the salon bright, open and nicely decorated. I know that they moved locations around 2009, so that may be why another review was so low. I would give it a try.

Here is why: First, the salon is very relaxing, well-appointed, yet unpretentious. Stacy is the owner and has a gift for hair design and for running a business, too. Stacy is specially trained by Ouidad to cut curly hair and does an exceptional job. Every time. My daughter initially came as a companion and for mother-daughter time, but has been delighted by Lindsay's talent for both styling hair and eyebrow waxing. She also discovered Angela, the nail technician and her meticulous mani/pedis. She is an expert gel nail provider. The customer service at Indigo is unparalleled. Short version: I went in to get my toddler son's hair cut…read more Hair dresser ended up clipping his ear (it was bleeding). No apology. No offer to get the cut free of charge. And when I said I don't see why I should pay for this hair cut, hair dresser said she provided a service and therefore I had to pay. The discussion continued for a few minutes. Then I paid and left. While this 100% was an accident, common courtesy to me is to apologize and not charge for it. 10/10 would NOT recommend and will not be going back.

I don't know how much they normally charge, but at the event it was about $15. It was super quick -- about 15 minutes tops, probably less. They were stocked with multiple color options -- I went with a chrome for a more subtle touch. The stylist told me they can last months if you're gentle with them, but I'm not fairly rough on my hair, lol. Still, a few weeks later most are still in. Throughout the evening some of the salon stylists were popping around to talk about their full services and literally all of the ladies were super sweet and friendly. Also love that they have juices and healthy foods -- I think they provided the tea and acai on the distillery menu that night. Seems like a great space -- heads up that they do hair tinsels if you're looking for someone who offers it! Even though it's a bit of a hike for me, the staff was so sweet that I'd consider making the drive if I needed services.

I was visiting a good friend in Syracuse, and she scheduled a facial appointment here as a birthday…read morepresent for me because I've been so stressed out lately. This is her go-to facial spot and Mary is her go-to esthetician. I've never had a facial before, so I didn't know what to expect. I was also super nervous as I really don't like strangers touching me all that much, especially when I'm already stressed out. However, Mary was amazing! She totally put me at ease, and she did a wonderful job. She gave me a choice of essential oils to be used, and I really wish I could remember the one I chose, as it smelled really good. She also has the most calming personality. The salon is very clean, and the other staff were super nice. They sell and use Aveda products, which my friend swears by, though I have never used myself. By the time I left, my skin felt great and I was very relaxed. It was a great experience, and if I lived in the area, I would definitely book another appointment here with Mary and would also try out their haricut/color services.

Thankfully I'd had it cut somewhat shorter than usual JUST before lockdown, but it was getting scraggly when someone recommended Ann Marie, a "certified curl specialist" (who knew that was a thing?) - at Element on Water - to me. LIFE CHANGING! She really took the time to get to know me and my curls making me feel comfortable enough to get a completely new style. The relaxing treatment I got my second visit has held up amazingly well. It's a bit pricey for sure, the downtown parking situation is difficult, and I had to wait several weeks for a (required) "first curl consultation" appointment, but my hair hasn't looked this good in (literally) 60 years - and that makes me feel great.
