This is an update from my first review in October. It has been 9 months since I've been coming to this salon. The first 3 visits went from good to worse.Then I noted: - The salon is dirty. Monica uses the same brushes filled with people's hair on your hair. No cleaning or sterile blue solution in the store anywhere. She passes the same apron just worn by a customer to another. When she did this to me, I refused to put it on. She brought me supposedly a clean one but she complained that she is by herself and can't do the wash all the time. My reply was: "This is your store, and it is how you should do business, you can't pass worn and dirty aprons to other customers". - She rushes to finish your hair so she can take on the next customer even when they arrived early for their appointment. In the last visit, two customers came in early ahead of their appointment, she told them that they are early but instead of making them wait till their time, she said "I'll quickly finish this customer (me) don't worry just sit down". My hair is long, and I usually get 1-highlights, 2- toner, 3- special color dryer, 4- Layered hair cut, 5- blow dry, 6- styling. It normally takes other salons 2-3 hours to do my hair, but in Monica's case not more than 1hr and 40 min (usually), but this last time, because two customers were early, she rushed my job and finished in a record 1hr and 15 min. She didn't allow the color to dry, she didn't keep the toner long enough, and she literally cut my hair with 5 snips!!!! I am not joking. -And when I asked her to freshen up the layering on my hair, she objected that my hair is not layered. I showed her the short layers and told her that they have grown a bit since in the past she has also rushed the hair cut and failed to layer my hair. She objected again not listening to what I wanted done. So I told her I will not argue with her and to finish up drying my hair. She did. -Monica does not listed to what the customer wants if it is inconvenient for her, in this instance, she had two customers waiting (who arrived early for their appointment) and decided she didn't want to do what I wanted; it is too much effort! What is the point behind taking an appointment if she allows customers to break them? I told her I will never come back again because she kept arguing and arguing. It didn't matter what the customer wants if it is not what she wanted. Sorry but women care very much about their hair, and I pay quite a bit of money to leave unsatisfied like this. "First time customer" to "never again customer" based on one visit on 12/8/21. I scheduled an appointment for cut, highlights and low lights, and style. Based on experience with other stylists, this should have been a 1.5-2 hour experience - I was there for 3 hours. Monica kept me waiting for 30 minutes after my scheduled appointment time. Every few minutes she told me "just a few more minutes." Later, after I had been there for 2.5 hours, it was time to cut my wet "colored/frosted" hair. Monica told me she would need to stop working on my hair when another customer arrived because the other customer was busy. Unbelievable. I told Monica I that arrangement was not OK with me, she "finished" my hair before starting on the other customer's hair. My hair color is not highlighted with low lights as I told her I wanted - rather, she colored the roots brown (I asked for dark blonde color. I have never, ever been a brunette!!) then "frosted" the brown hair that looks straight out of the 1970s. The cut is a lot shorter than the picture I showed her, with one side layered while the opposite side is a bob cut (not what I asked for, and not depicted in the picture I showed her.). The "style" was nothing more than a blow dry with a round brush and looked nothing like the picture I showed her. Why was my hair not styled as depicted in the picture? I believe it's because the other customer was waiting and Monica wanted to finish with me so she could take care of the other customer. Why didn't I speak up? Because I had been there for 3 hours listening to Monica complain that she only had time to eat some peanuts but not an actual meal, show me her TicTok feed, talk about her family, and tout her 30+ years doing hair, so my confidence in her ability to listen and follow through was very low. I just wanted to get out of there knowing I will never return. read more

I walked in one Saturday afternoon off the street with the intention of just getting a quick trim. My hair was in dire need of a new style and color correction though. Monika (salon owner) hooked me up without costing me an arm and a leg! Thanks to her, my hair now looks healthy and is no longer 10 different shades of processed tragedy (no one's fault but my own!). I think I just made a friend for life! All I can say is that Monica welcomes you in like no other and don't let the exterior of this place fool you. Called to make an appointment, after purchasing a LocalAmazon deal. OMG - all I can say is that Monica, the lady who took my calls (yes, calls, several) never gave me an appointment, yelled at me, told me I was too demanding - and again, all of this just to make the appointment . I had purchased cut, highlights and style- I told her I only wanted cut and style; she claimed she could not do that- so of course, I questioned why since I was willing to pay the same thing for less service, what could be the problem? she told me Amazon demanded that she did what I paid for - but I don't want highlights, I said, to no avail. Very Unprofessional. This place might have stood a chance if it wasn't for Groupon. I purchased the groupon for a cut only. When I went to use it, the place was incredibly unprofessional. The groupon deal is basically a scam or a way to get you to go to the salon without giving a true disount. I paid $19 for what was supposedly a $40+ haircut. However, the sign in the salon has completely different pricing. They wouldn't even wash my hair before cutting it. I should have walked out immediately, but I was leaving for vacation the next day and wanted to get it cut. I went ahead and tried to tip the lady that actually cut my hair, but Monika won't run a credit card for $5, so unfortunately her employee suffered as well. I went in to see Monika after finding her deal for a cut and style on Groupon. My hair was in desperate need of a cut and color, however, never being here before I wanted to test the waters a bit before going for color. I am pleased to say, I will be back to have her do my highlights. When I called to make an appointment, Monika explained that the Groupon was only for a cut and style, so I would have to pay extra if I wanted her to wash my hair, and also that long hair would result in an extra charge. I accepted her terms and made an appointment. When I arrived, I was the only client, which was nice, because that meant there was no wait. Monika was very friendly and talked to me the whole time. She listened to what I wanted, and did a very simple style, showing me how to get similar results at home. I am happy with my cut, and am excited to get my color. I did not score 5 stars...yet, because I want to see what my color looks like. If you are looking for a stylist in the Richardson area, give Monika a shot. I actually had a Groupon for a place that apparently went out of business in that plaza, and I was in dire need of a haircut, so I walked in. This was around 5:45 on a Friday afternoon. The place was relatively empty because it was a pretty dreary day outside, and she had two customers inside. After she was done with them, she asked if she could help me. I asked her if she was about to close, and she said, 'Yeah, I was about to leave" which threw me off a bit because the sign said the store didn't close until 7, so I offered to leave, but she took me anyway. Haircut was decent--I didn't have it stylized because I didn't have time so I can't say much on that. I got off a lot more than I thought it would be, but I didn't mind because I wanted a change anyway. She liked to talk about how my generation needed to move up so that I should not get into the hair/nail salon business (I'm Vietnamese). Personally, I did not enjoy the conversation very much because I get that kind of lecturing from my parents enough, but she's allowed to have her own opinion. She also has a son who attends UTD and she came from India, so I understand her mindset. In any case, she gave me the student discount so that was nice, and I tipped her generously because it looked like it had been a very slow day. I've been a customer of Boone's for years before he moved to this dump. Now he finally moved out! Boone just moved to Clips in the same shopping center, so if you are looking for him, go there. Boone is a very talented stylist and his prices are always reasonable. Now, back to this dump. I took my little boy here to have his and my hair cut by Boone. While he was waiting, he does what most little boys do, walk around the waiting area and look at things. While I'm getting my hair cut, I hear this loud scream "HEY, STOP PLAYING AROUND AND SIT DOWN!!", directed at my little 5yr old. The kid was so scared he almost cried. I immediately scolded her for yelling at my child. I told her if my child is out of line, which he was not, then tell me and I WILL tell my child to sit down. I told her she had no right to yell at my child, then she went off and try to tell me that she owned the place and she can do whatever she wanted to. I told her that I didn't care that she owned the place, me and my son were there to see Boone. The experience left a bitter taste in my mouth. Every time I stepped in there to see Boone, I hear this annoying, bragging voice talking about her Lexus and her shop. Not that I wanted to listen but she was always about 5 feet away. I'm sure she doesn't have any kids of her own, otherwise, she would know how to treat children. I almost forgot to mention the following time I took my boy back to get his hair cut. While we were waiting for Boone, my son noticed a fish bowl full of candies on the counter, obviously there for customers. I lifted him up to grab one piece, only one. He liked it so much five minutes later he wanted another piece. That's when we noticed that the fish bowl wasn't there anymore...LOL. If you are considering coming here, then park in the parking lot and go to Clips to see Boone (Clips is next to Subway). He cuts men, women, and children's hairs with PRECISION. This was literally the most unprofessional, poorly managed salon I've ever been to--and I've lived in Dallas for 31 years. If I could rate this place with zero stars, I would. Please, please save yourself the aggravation and go someplace else. Anyplace else. After purchasing a Groupon, I booked an appointment over the phone after agreeing to a price for partial highlights on long hair (prettty straightforward). When I got there, the stylist that I had spoken with made me wait a whole hour (telling me that it would just be a "few more minutes" over and over) and then told me she was going to have to reschedule. I came back at the rescheduled appointment time and had to wait 45 minutes before even getting in the chair. At that point, she told me that she just couldn't do my hair at the price she had quoted me originally because she "wouldn't be making any money". Unbelievable! At that point, I just left, really regretting ever hearing about this place. I now go to Matthew Tully Hairdressing in Dallas and they're incredibly good. Update: Unfortunately I had to modify my initial glowing review of Monica after my last visit. When I called her, she told me to come in but once I arrived (after making the 20min drive) I could tell right away that she had her hands full with at least three other customers. When she finally saw me, she rushed the consultation and started on my highlights. She left the bleach on too long and fried my hair! And she didn't even put any conditioner on it after washing it!. She apologized when I told her that I was unhappy and gave me a small bottle of biosilk to help it but I won't be back. It's too much of a circus there. She probably wouldn't have made the mistake if she hadn't been trying to do three other people at the same time. I waited a few weeks to see if my hair would settle down, but it's still a dry frazzled mess--with tons and tons of breakage. She did a great job coloring my hair and she introduced me to "threading" my eyebrows. Love it! So much better than waxing. I absolutely love Monica! She is very friendly and flexible with her schedule. I went in to get a fresh cut and color/highlights, and she did a phenomenal job. Despite having my hair spoiled at the last salon I went to, she was able to fix it with ease. I called before I purchased the Groupon. I wanted to make sure that someone could actually cut a A-Sym Bob. Monica answered the phone and I asked her if she or someone could do that cut. She said no problem, but that the shop was closed (she was answering the phone on her off day). She said to call the next morning. Not only did she pick up the phone the next morning but she remembered me and my name. The cut was for my daughter who wanted to get her hair cut before the wedding. Monica was very pleasant, we only had to wait a short time for her to finish up the customer she was cutting. My daughter showed her the picture and she cut her hair exactly like the picture. She is very pleased with her hair cut. She is considering going back for some highlights. I read some of the reviews of this shop. Yes it is in an old area of Richardson, I should know I grew up there. The shop is not run down inside. For the person that wanted pictures of the shop, I think you need to stay in Highland Park if you need pictures of the shop before you get your hair cut. This is Richardson and Richardson is old.
