Amanda is an incredible artist. I went in with near virgin hair, an idea, and some pictures; she listened attentively to all of my rambling, and made perfect sense of it. She gave me exactly what I envisioned, but better. Gorgeous color, and a cut that highlights the artistry of the color even more. I truly feel transformed by this look. The atmosphere of her salon is wonderful: eclectic decor and a relaxed, friendly vibe. Amanda is also just fun af, and so warm and kind! Book now, people! UPDATE! Have been going to Amanda consistently since posting my first review, and I just have to come in an rave again. A week and a half ago, she gave me the beat haircut ever! I seriously think it's my favorite haircut I've ever had, and the color is spectacular, too! If you're looking for an amazing stylist in the DFW area, I can not recommend her enough. read more

I've been seeing Amanda for 6 months now. From the first meeting she makes you feel as if you are part of her family. Her work is phenomenal and worth the price. She is quick in her execution but not so quick that the quality is jeopardized. The products she uses are top quality and she will never steer you wrong when it comes to the best products for your hair! The conversation is great and she is a fantastic listener and advice giver! Thanks Amanda for being an awesome hair artist and therapist :) read more

I'm late in posting, I got my haircut over a month ago. I absolutely loved it and for weeks I kept getting compliments on it. I showed Amanda pictures of the style I wanted and she cut every strand perfectly to frame my face. I had just moved to Dallas and really needed to cut the waist-length hair weighing me down in the summer heat. The new style was lightweight, flowy, and cute. She's not only a great stylist, she's also just wonderful and gave me some advice on life in Dallas. I really appreciate the kindness she showed as one of the first people I met here. I can't wait to dye my hair next time! read more

As a hairstylist myself I am pretty picky about who does my hair. Amanda is one of the very few that have ever cut and colored my hair. I love being able to go in and tell her what I want then close my eyes take a nap and wake up to exactly what I asked for. Amanda is great about working with my schedule her prices are reasonable and she always makes me feel like I am her most important client. Amanda's technical skills are second to none and she is always studying and learning new techniques so that she can meet the demands of her clients. what she cannot do is read someone's mind and give them something unrealistic. So if you go in and tell her what you want she'll discuss it with you and give you exactly what you asked for. Love me some Amanda! read more

First time here and the second place to cut my hair in the Richardson area since I've moved here. Positive experience, I messaged the business the day before hoping there was an opening and luckily there was an opening she could take me in. Washed, cut, blow dry in about 45 minutes and about $50 for my hair cut. I asked for a long bob, bangs cleaned up and I got exactly what I wanted. Would definitely recommend to my friends. Thanks Amanda! Second time here! Amanda's amazing and made my hair look amazing. Washed, cut, blow dried in an hour flat. $40 total plus tip. Can't wait to get my hair cut again! Obsessed with my hair cut and she knew just what to do for my hair type. Thanks again! Third time here(I think, can't keep track anymore). My previous haircut with Amanda was a dramatic long bob which I was obsessed with, I came back this time for a less dramatic lob. She knows how to cut with my thick hair texture and can get done a wash, cut, and dry style in under an hour. About $45 and worth every dollar and minute for her skills. read more

Amanda is amazing! I went without a clear idea of what I wanted other than the fact that I wanted a cut and I wanted bangs. She asked a few questions and proceeded to do magic on my very thick, curly and temperamental hair. When she finished, I had a cut that was beautiful, fit my personality. I have to say I am in love! It's always hard to find someone who can work with my hair and she did wonders with it. Can't wait to go back! read more

Hair Junkie - Love love love my hair! - Hair Salons Near Me - Richardson, Texas

This is the only salon I trust to tuch my hair. Amanda is AMAZING and this salon is the best hidden gem in north dallas. When you tell her to do something, or ask for something specific on your hair, she LISTENS. if you say, half an inch, she will cut half an inch (unlike a lot of salons that tend to not really listen and cut off around 4 inches). I am very strict on my hair and i asked her to not even brush my hair (im really strict) and she listened and respected my request which i totally loved. This is also a great place to go if you are looking for an 'edgy' haircut, if you bring in a photo or just say what you want she will work her magic and do exactly what you want and then some. Its also great for just a trim or a regular haircut. Her salon is so cool looking and Amanda is halarious and keeps the salon experience un-awkward and fabulous. I gaurentee you will walk out with a huge smile on your face and a great new hairdo. read more

I hesitate to write this review as I truly respect peoples lively hood. But after consideration and urging of friends, family, co-workers or pretty much anyone who saw my hair after visiting Amanda at "Hair Junkie", I decided to let others know how bad my experience was. I was hopeful to find a new stylist as I am the mother of young twins and my current hairdresser is far away. First, Amanda is really unprofessional, like smoking cigarets during your appointment then working on your hair with smelly cigaret fingers. I could've easily overlooked this had my hair turned out halfway decent. My requests were very simple, a few blondish highlights and a trim. What I got were large, yellow, brassy, spotted, bleached pieces (along with breakage). When I expressed my concern she said, "oh, I think it will be fine!". I continued to express concern so she put a toner on it. At this point I had been there for nearly 3-1/2 hours. She clearly wanted to end her day and sent me on my way with damp hair. The next morning I realized the extent of the damage..I texted her along with a photo to let her know my dissatisfaction. She responded with total flippant rudeness and an offer to "fix" my hair. She texted me later apologizing and offering to refund half of the (whopping) $160.00 I spent on a partial highlight and a trim. I had to pay another stylist $90.00 to repair my hair. My stylist was taken back by the shoddy work that was done on my hair. So, if you are even remotely picky about your hair I would think twice about going to "Hair Junkie". 2/13/15 - IN RESPONSE: Fact 1 - My hair is now chemically burned and breaking off near the scalp. Fact 2- I had NO prior damage or breakage before visiting Amanda at "Hair Junkie". Fact 3- These photos were taken after my hair has been trimmed twice in an attempt to remove the extensive damage. I suppose it was a "miscommunication". I should have been clear that I did not want my hair chemically burned off. Do not go here. She is not a good hair dresser. read more

I found Amanda through Yelp -- I am EXTREMELY picky about my hair and the Hair Junkie worked her magic and took my flat, uneven, lifeless locks and gave me back my beautiful, shiny, bouncy hair! The layers are perfect - I can style it straight and it doesn't look like I have two bookshelves on the back of my head (some stylists cut very obvious layers) or I can curl it and have bouncy curls that blend perfectly. She uses great products, doesn't push to upsell you on stuff you don't need and, icing on the top: she is an amazing person who is so much fun to talk to! I won't let anyone else touch my hair. I life in Frisco and work in Dallas, so Richardson is out of the way for me, but the side trip is totally worth it! By the way, I see lots of reviews about short hair -- my hair is past my shoulders and I'm growing it longer; Amanda works magic with long hair too! :) read more

I'm agreeing with everyone else. I wanted to try short hair after several years of medium length, thick and wavy hair. Amanda is great. I brought four pictures and described my request as asymmetrical with tendrils, I'd like to go short, but don't make me look butchy. Ohhhhh, short hair fear no more! Success! Love it, will definitely go back. read more

I had been sick for ten days and just didn't have the energy to fuss with my hair OR to drive across town to the salon I'd been going to for the last year. Got on yelp and found Amanda. When I figured out she's about a five minute drive from my house that was all I needed. so I thought, why not? She was direct, to the point, and "all business" on the phone and didn't chat me up but I wasn't calling a friend, I was making an appointment, so who cares, right? A little over a year ago I'd decided that at my age, I wasn't fooling anyone so I wanted to let my gray grow in and my highlights grow out. I left a stylist I'd been using for years because she just could NOT let go of coloring my hair. After reading how good Amanda is with color, I was afraid she'd push me to color it but when I told her what I wanted to do, she said. "Well, why not, you've earned that gray!" That was just the FIRST thing she did that I liked. She did exactly what I asked her to do and by the time I left, I'd learned that AMANDA HAS MAD SKILLS WITH SCISSORS AND A BLOW DRYER. BEST CUT AND BLOW OUT I'D HAD IN 20 YEARS. Plus, I'm no spring chicken and really enjoyed Amanda's youthful energy. Her enthusiasm for life and for her work makes ME feel young again. Went back today to make sure the first visit wasn't just a fluke and now I am hooked on the Hair Junkie. So...bottom line is AS LONG AS SHE'S SOMEWHERE IN THE METROPLEX, I'LL FOLLOW HER ANYWHERE. I'm sold and that don't come easy when it comes to my hair. read more

I've known Amanda for a lot of years! We moved away and we lost touch. Recently found my way back to her when I needed some hair remediation. She's GREAT with color. She loves the crazy colors that are popular now, but she's also good with more natural colors in all the conventional applications as well as more interesting techniques. She'll also explain what the process is and what you need to think about as far as maintaining your color choice. She also does great haircuts. I appreciate that while she has a more eccentric personal taste, she doesn't impose it on anyone else. But she's also always up for making a change or something out of the ordinary. (I've had hair dressers be too scared to make a big change because they didn't want to risk an adverse response and therefore they never did what I was asking). Her prices are reasonable and easy to understand. She's great with kids and husbands too! read more

Amanda always takes care of me. My meatloaf is hidden and I always love my new cut. Thanks for always being you.

First off, who cares about her phone manners? She's straight forward and no-nonsense and you can text her instead if that bothers you. What matters is Amanda sure as hell knows how to cut hair. I had to make a big cut (4-5 inches) after having lived in the area for 2+ years without finding a stylist and I'm glad I went to her. It took less than half an hour, cost $50 and I couldn't be happier. If you're looking for straight-forward easy experience, definitely check out Hair Junkie. PS, it's in Salon D'Elegance, first suite on the right. read more

I met Amanda many years ago, through my husband who worked with her husband. I waited a long time before approaching her, since I'm a very picky person when it comes to my hair. But, I didn't have any problem trusting Amanda with my hair the first time I sat in her chair, she performed "magic" when she showed me that I could go from a blonde to a brunette. She's got fantastic talent and she really knows her stuff. I was truly amazed at her level of knowledge when it came to the correct way that my hair responds to different styles! Had me rolling in my seat, she's so funny and easy to talk with. She didn't try to push products on me that I didn't want or need. Bottom line... I have been to a lot of stylists over the years and by far..Amanda has been the best! I have recommended many people to her. Keep up the fantastic work, Amanda! read more

Amanda is AWESOME! I went it with damaged hair from over processing and a bad haircut from a different stylist. Amanda is amazing. Ever since I moved to Dallas (8 years ago), I have been searching for the perfect stylist. I'm a former stylist myself, so I know what I want and how to communicate that. The problem is most stylists won't listen or don't care. That and I like funky styles. I don't want your mom's hair, I want something different and fun. Amanda was down for the challenge on all fronts. She's a great listener, she asked questions, even offered her opinion. It was so refreshing! My purple highlights turned out perfect! I get compliments everywhere I do. And my cut was amazing. It's the first time I didn't have to go home and fix what had been done. I'm so happy I found Hair Junkie and Amanda! Not only is she a wonderful stylist, she's a fantastic person. Highly recommend! 10/10! read more
