I consulted many friends and colleagues who all gave me their salon faves and why, but I loved what my one friend said about A-List 'they listen, they take their time, and they do it right.' WOW! I met with Dosia on 12/20/2023 and surrendered my ultra-long, ultra-shapeless hair that badly needed...something? I wanted low maintenance but to keep the length. "Well," she said, "I put more highlights in this time." So, 3 things: 1) Am I supposed to keep track of how many highlights are being put in? Or know how much each one costs? 2) If you decide to put more in, even if it's based on a conversation that we had about what kind of color I want, shouldn't you tell me it's going to cost more? 3) She compromised at $145 but recommended that if I didn't want to pay $165 next time that I go with a less experienced stylist, rather than the owner. I had been searching for "my person" for years after my previous stylist moved, and I'm probably a little harder to impress than the average person because I grew up in salons and worked in the cosmetic industry for years. I know when someone really knows their craft -- and this girl knows her stuff. I love most is that she actually listens. Like really listens. She'll look at your inspiration, look at your actual hair, and tell you honestly what your hair type and texture can do instead of just saying yes to everything and sending you home wondering why you don't magically have the same head of hair as the person in the Pinterest photo. She works WITH your hair, and that makes such a difference. She was also unbelievably patient with me over several appointments while I slowly worked up the courage to get the haircut I actually wanted. I kept inching toward it like a frightened woodland creature and she never pushed me. She just worked with me until I was ready. And when I finally committed??? Literally the best my hair has ever looked. The cut is so good. So precise. Every piece falls where it's supposed to, she understood exactly how to work with my texture, and somehow my hair just makes sense now. The color I showed her? She formulated it perfectly. And her blowouts are honestly rude because now I know what my hair is capable of looking like and I cannot recreate that magic at home. I would have her blow out my hair every morning if that were a normal and financially responsible thing to do. But beyond how insanely talented she is, she is just an absolute gem of a human. She's funny, sweet, warm, compassionate, adorable, easy to talk to and genuinely so much fun to be around. I literally find myself wanting another haircut just because I want to go hang out with her again -- which is probably not a healthy long-term hair-growth strategy. Finding someone who is incredibly talented at what they do and is just a beautiful person to spend time with is so rare. I'm genuinely grateful she came into my life and I cannot imagine anyone else doing my hair now. So basically, she can never leave Oregon. That's the rule. When I sat in her chair, she commented how great my hair looked grown out. I said I wanted to continue to grow it out and she firmed stated "no." Then I said I wanted the hairstyle more blunt where the back is not shorter than the front and another "no." Finally I showed her a photo with cute bangs and a third "no" so all things I communicated I wanted in my hairstyle were dismissed. She stacked the back after communicating to her I how much I dislike this. The side are choppy with uneven layers. (see photos). While I appreciate Nichole's strong personality and opinions, at the end of the day I am the client paying for the service. Not once did she apologize or show concern in our text messages. She refunded the cut but it will be a year before it grows back to the length I had before this unfortunate incident.
